Robert is behind the bar, trying to pull out the broken dagger Garth had stabbed into it earlier in the night. Bang! Guy kicks open the door to the pub.
Robert looks over and sees Guy carrying Lane, "Guy, what did you do!?"
Guy is offended, "I just saved her life! What kind of person do you think I am!?"
Robert leads Guy and the townswoman to a back bedroom. Guy puts Lane in the bed and then slumps down in a chair in the corner of the room.
"She's getting dirt all over my sheets," Robert complains.
"I'll make sure they get clean," replies Guy.
"Where did she come from?" Robert asks.
"She's from Sansen. Apparently a bunch of monsters attacked the town." Guy replies.
Robert looks confused, "monsters? So she's crazy?"
The townswoman speaks up, "No, I was there. It's all true!"
"And I killed four of those monsters just a few seconds ago, so she's not crazy," says Guy.
Robert throws up his hands in frustration, "I'm not getting involved in this. Make sure she doesn't die on my bed, and when you get a chance, get that dagger out of my bar top."
Robert leaves the bedroom.
Guy turns towards the townswoman, "What's your name?"
"My name is Sarah," she replies.
"So Sarah, do you know anything about the things that attacked Sansen?" asks Guy.
"No, it was all just chaos...and then she saved me" Sarah looks down at Lane, "She refused to leave me behind."
Guy looks at Lane.
Sarah walks towards the door, "I'm going to get a towel to clean her up."
Sarah leaves the bedroom.
Guy leans back in the chair and closes his eyes. Suddenly Lane wakes up in a panic, "where am I!"
Guy almost jumps out of his chair, "It's alright, you're in a pub."
Lane relaxes.
Guy sits back in his chair again, "Do you wanna tell me what the hell is going on? What were those things?"
Lane shakes her head, "I don't know. I woke up in the middle of the night and Sansen was under attack-" Lane remembers her father being interrogated, "They're looking for a key."
"A key?" Asks Guy.
"They forced my father to tell them where it was, and then...then they killed him."
Tears begin to run down Lane's face.
Guy sits up in his chair, "They killed a warden. This is a bigger deal than I thought."
Lane stops crying and gets out of bed.
"Where are you going?" Ask Guy.
"The same place I was going before, to Locktin. From there I can send word to the King!" she explains.
"I saw those things in action. If they want you dead, you won't make it to Locktin before they find you," replies Guy.
Lane knows Guy is right, "What would you have me do!?"
"Go to Locktin, I'll make sure nothing follows you," Guy stands up, "Hire me to take back your town."
"Are you insane-" Lane suddenly remembers Guy's strange power, "Wait, what was that magic you used to kill those monsters?!"
"It's not magic," says Guy.
Lane is confused, "If it's not magic, then what is it?"
"What does it matter?" Says Guy.
Lane gets annoyed, "It matters a lot! You expect me to hire you without knowing your abilities?"
Guy nods his head, "Yes!"
Outside the pub, the figure and the large beast watch the pub.
The figure turns to the beast, "It is time."
The beast growls in agreement.
Two drunk men stand outside the pub sipping on ale. They look over and see the huge beast come out of the forest towards the pub.
"Whoa! That's a big ass dog!" Shouts one of the drunk men.
"What? That's a horse, you idiot!" Replies the other drunk man.
"No, no, that's not a horse!" The first drink replies.
The beast roars, prompting one of the drunk men to throw a cup at the beast's face, "Piss off, you dumb horse!"
The beast tackles him and begins to rip him apart. The other drunk man stumbles back and summons a fire whip. It lights up the area and shows the beast in full view. The beast is 12 feet long, with thick black fur that seems to wave back and forth without wind. It has hind feet like a dog, and huge claws for hands. Its eyes are red without pupils. The drunk man is frozen with fear. The beast grabs his leg and begins slicing him apart.
Sarah and Robert are both behind the bar, now trying to pull the dagger out of the bar top. Across the pub, a man sitting by the front door hears the commotion outside. He looks out the window and notices the beast charging towards the pub.
"Is that a horse?" he wonders.
Crash! The beast breaks down the front door. The few customers left in the pub jump out of their seats in shock. The beast quickly jumps on one man and bits his head off. The customers pull out their magic books and draw their weapons. The magic users in the pub begin shooting magic at the beast, while the none magic users charge in at the beast with their weapons. The beast roars with rage and begins to fight back, killing one warrior after another.
Robert and Sarah duck behind the counter.
"Is that one of the monsters!?" asks Robert.
"Yes!" replies Sarah.
Guy and Lane are still bickering in the bedroom.
"Why would you even want this job, do you need the money that badly?" asks Lane.
Guy shrugs, "I don't need the money, but I have my reasons-"
Guy and Lane hear people screaming in the other room. They rush into the bar area and see the beast slaughtering the remaining customers.
"What the hell is that?!" Asks Guy.
"That's one of the monsters that attacked Sansen!" Lane replies.
Across the pub, one of the magic users summons a handful of ice blades and shoots them at the beast, but the knife bounces off the beast's skin and shoots towards Guy and Lane. Guy steps in front of Lane, the ice blades hit his skin and break into pieces.
Lane watches the pieces melt away, "How did you survive that?!"
"Magic doesn't affect me," says Guy.
Lane remembers what the old Farmer said about Guy taking a direct hit from a lightning bolt. Lane reaches over and pinches his arm.
Guy slaps her hand away, "What are you doing?!"
"I am trying to figure out your strange powers!" She replies.
"Can we focus on the monster!" Guy demands.
They turn their attention back to the beast. The monster chases the customers as they try to flee out the back door.
Guy turns to Lane, "Okay, consider this my application."
He sneaks away while Lane hides. Guy sneaks over to the bar and kneels next to it. He peeks around the side of the bar, the beast is still distracted.
Guy draws his sword, "I'm still drained from that last fight, but there is only one monster this time...a big monster. If I can get in its blind spot, I can end this quickly."
Guy takes two quick breaths and rushes in. He is light on his feet, but one bad step and a creaky floor board gives him away.
The beast spots Guy, "Shit"
The beast turns and swings at him with its massive claws. Guy might be tired, but he's not as slow as the massive beast, so he can duck under its powerful attacks. The beast tries again, but this time Guy sees an opening and chops off the beast's incoming arm. It screams in pain and stumbles backwards. The beast furiously charges at Guy and swings its other claw at him. Guy rolls out of the way and cuts off the beast's leg. The beast screams and falls on its side, unable to move. Guy stands over the beast and drives his sword into its chest. It screams in pain one last time, and then goes silent. Guy pulls his sword out of the beast and flicks the blood off.
