Since it was almost six when we got home, it was not surprising that it was already a quarter past noon when I woke up. And surprisingly enough, I am more refreshed than ever before since I came into this strange world. Should I pull an all-nighter to wake up this refreshed each time?
Heh! As if that's gonna work.
I squinted my eyes several times, adjusting to the light. And I found Ethan in his rabbit form sleeping soundly on top of the table having the large evergreen banana as his pillow.
I didn't bother him and just let him be as I prepared to go to the agency. As idiot as I am, I didn't change my clothes when I went to bed this morning. And so, I went with my most presentable set of clothes that I have since I only have one suit. Should I get a new one?
Around 2:00 p.m. when I arrived at the agency and like usual, I marched in nonchalantly.
"Hello, Mr. Jack!" greeted Adrian. And by the way that he smiled, it looked like he was already back to his usual sunny self. Which I am honestly grateful for. The agency feels different without his upbeat greetings.
"Hello, Adrian. Is Mr. Alec inside?" I asked.
"Yes, but he's not at his office by the moment. You can wait there while I call him."
"Then, I'll have to trouble you, Adrian."
There were no people inside Mr. Alec's office which I honestly find odd. Because ever since I was hired, this place has never been empty whenever I come. If anything, he always has a visitor or two with him.
I scanned the room and the very first thing that caught my attention again was the bones of yet another weird creature. I'm convinced! Mr. Alec has a whole bunch of these hideous things and he has some sort of attachment to them.
And at that moment, a silly thought pass through my mind.
These bones aren't related to those nasty creatures Ethan spoke of, are they? Because if they are, then there's a high possibility Mr. Alec is a peculiar.
No! Stop thinking about it, Sean. So what if he is? Will it even change your situation, huh?
Moments later, there was a series of knocks on the wooden door followed by the twisting of the knob.
"Sorry to have keep you waiting, Mr. Jack." It was none other than Mr. Alec
"No, I didn't wait for that long. I won't be staying long enough either."
"I see. So what did you come here for?" he asked.
"I came to get my pay for yesterday's job with Alicia and Dominick. Also, I came to inform you that I won't be taking any today." I said exactly like how I rehearsed it multiple times inside my head.
After receiving the brown money envelope with my name written in cursive at the back, I left after excusing myself. Without anything else to do, I went back to the apartment.
"Put these in your bag." Ethan said as he threw some clothes at me. When I checked it, I found out that they were two hooded cloaks.
"What are these for?" I asked.
"We will be needing those for later. You see, that old man is more meticulous than I am to the point of obsession. You'll regret it for the rest of your life once anyone discovered his place because of your carelessness. I don't even want to think about it."
Looking at the way that his expression turned sour while saying that, I immediately understood that this old man whoever he is, is not someone I would like to become an enemy of.
So without any questions asked, I did exactly what Ethan said.
Totally different from how I usually dress, I wore a high-waisted pants, loose-fitting polo, and an ivy cap.
To be honest, I seriously didn't want to wear these had Ethan not told me to dress differently. These clothes are one of the few Miss Patricia gave me when I once attempted disguising myself as her missing lover.
I especially hated it since because of that job, I had to wear a splint.
I am glad that my shoulder is no longer as painful as it used to be days ago. I'm guessing I will do just fine without the splint in a day or two.
Ethan is in his rabbit form clinging to my left shoulder. And surprisingly enough, our destination is Cedar Street, specifically, the Hankala Inn.
Somehow, this place made me feel nostalgic though the memory I had of this place is far from pleasant. This was the place where I had to wait for the butler Count Norman sent. My first ever job in this strange world. And my first ever encounter with those creepy creatures, Oliver's pet.
