" Nothing," I replied, silently scolding myself for doing that.
"You're funny," Ray said out of the blue.
"Okay," I replied hesitantly. What was that supposed to mean?
" It was meant to be a compliment," he informed with an amused look on his face.
Ray opened the door of his Supra for me. I awkwardly sat in the seat beside him. He turned the air conditioning on and a blast of cold air hit me. My clothes clung to my body from the sweat of Texas heat. I sank into my seat from the comfort. Air-conditioning was not something I was used to, especially in my apartment. I was used to the owner cutting off the electricity whenever I hadn't paid a month's rent. I almost laughed thinking of how abnormal today was going.
" You don't talk a lot," Ray noticed.
" I was just thinking," I replied.
" Oh, tell me what was on your mind just right now," Ray said.
I shot him a serious look and he nodded.
