20 . Holding The Fort Part 7

POV : MIKAEL 

TIME : 9: 22 PM

Mika had a lot to think about . He was now in the living room of the cabin and the lights were of . He had moved a bed down to the banker below the house so Sarah could sleep there comfortably and Mika did not have to worry for her safety .

The girl still found it hard to go to sleep without experiencing nightmares so , Mika had waited until she was asleep and moved back to the living room . He had noticed his words about time travel had helped her and that was good enough . 

Mika was worried about the mission itself . The reason being what the mission wanted . From what he understood , he had to do majorly two things .

One was to protect Sarah and the other was to hand over Sarah to the friendly terminator that was coming from the future . 

He had already established that the terminator would be arriving by tomorrow . Then why not give Sarah to him tomorrow and be done with the mission . What was the point of the third day if the mission could be accomplished by the second day .

Was there something he was not seeing . A clue he had missed out on . 

And an idea came to him . He was restricted to only the area around the cabin . What about the rest of the enemy contestant . Did they have the same restrictions . 

Could they launch an ambush at him and run past his limit area , heal and come back again . That was very worrying . 

Or what if the terminator he though was an ally turned out to attack him . Not only would he have to fight back , he would also fail the mission at the same time . But that was unlikely .

Then what was it that worried him . He was not worried about the terminators that would come tomorrow . He could handle them . He practically knew when and how they would arrive and he would be very aware of it . 

And then it finally clicked . Yes , the system had never told him when the enemy contestants would be arriving . He had assumed it would be the same time he had arrived but that was a very dangerous train of thoughts .

What if he was in the middle of handling the terminators and another group of contestants pulled out of nowhere and messed everything up . 

Not only would he have to adapt to the change in the ongoing battle . He also had to worry about Sarah's survival . 

" System , when will the enemy contestants be arriving , " 

Mika waited and waited but the answer never came . But still , silence was still an answer on it's own . That was good enough for Mika . For now he knew he should expect anything . 

" System , will the time that the terminators arrive tomorrow change ?." This question just came to him and he decided to ask . He felt a sudden chill run down his back . If the answer was anything but no , he would realize that putting any sort of trust in the system would get him killed . 

[[ THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE IN THE TIME ]] 

At least the system was not completely unreliable . But Mika had noticed one significant fact about it . It would not tell him everything . Or more likely , it would only answer when he figured things out himself . 

The system was just another way of saying if you were not intelligent enough , you did not deserve to be worthy . 

" What about the time the ally terminator will arrive . When is that? "Mika could ask whether the terminator would be friendly or not but he just felt the system would not answer . A type of wait to find out question . 

[[ THE ALLY TERMINATOR WILL ARRIVE BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF THE ENEMY CONTESTANTS ]] 

That was at least assuring . He could work with that piece of information . 

/ Yawning / 

Mika had not slept in a while now since his arrival at The Infinite Tower . If he had his previous enhancement and the energy supplements he could go for at minimum of two weeks without sleep and rest . 

But now that he was back to being a better version of a human , he needed to take short rests to maintain his top shape . 

Meditation was proving to be very effective and it also helped him getting more tuned with his innate ability . A level of familiarity he could never achieve before by himself due to the use if the cybernetic enhancement . A fact that made him both strong and weak .

Mika could feel it , he could achieve so much more with his innate ability . There was so much to it that he did not know . So much potential he could release . A certain peak that he could not reach in his previous life but now anything was possible . He just had to try hard enough . 

Mika was rested enough that he went outside the cabin again . He could hear Sarah's light snores over the walkie talkie so he was not very worried . 

He could rest later , for now he needed to plan . Mika had acquired several use full parts that could be of use in the upcoming battle . Plans needed to be reworked and traps needed to be reset .

His biggest threat for tomorrow was the contestants and he would make sure to get rid of them as quickly as possible . One quick attack that would cripple any sort of attack plan they could come up with .

Mika put himself in their situation . what type of humans were they .What it would feel like to be them . What he would do if he were to choose the kill mission. How he would go about to complete the mission . What type of mentality was needed to pick a mission that required for you to kill a little girl in order to pass . 

 He thought about every angle to it and catalogued every answer in his mind . If the enemy contestants were how he imagined them to be , they would not be so difficult to handle as he thought earlier .

Only a specific type of people would pick the kill mission and that was a type Mika could dismantle very easily . 

But for now , he needed to get back to work .

Mika pulled out every part and equipment he had gotten so far . Even the electric equipment needed to be reworked once again to fit the image he had in his mind . 

" The grind never stops ."
