Chapter 22: A change of plans...

A week had passed now since Xolvion had struck a deal with White Mane and the ruby lions. As agreed Xolvion had received his payment for the week, providing him with a large amount of money, more than enough to last an entire month.

Thanks to this information Xolvion was able to learn of the empress of Earth wear abouts. Finding that she was a high ranking member of the adventures guild and lead a party of hero's.

Xolvion knew that taking them on in a head to head battle would be difficult. He had also taken the time to observe the empress of Earth along with her party members, gaining as much intel on them as he could.

Along with the empress of Earth who was a member of the holy saints, the party also consisted of a member of the templar knights guild, ranking as a sword hero.

Next was a high ranking priest and healer, belonging to the order of the holy night, someone who could pose a problem for Zoranna with her divine magic.

The final member was rumoured to be a member of the high elven royalty, an excellent marksman and hunter, ranking as a hero in her own right.

With all of the information gathered, Xolvion was sure that he and the girls would not be strong enough to defeat them in a head-on battle. Leading him back to his original quest, to gain more power.

With that said and done, his goal of capturing the empress of Earth had to be put on hold for the time being, instead, Xolvion had decided he would pay a visit to the adventures guild.

It would pose as a good cover if he pretended to be a simple adventurer, for the time being, deciding to bring crystal along with him on this occasion. Luna and Zoranna were not pleased that he was leaving them behind, however, Xolvion had told them that they had another task that he wanted them to complete while he was away.

Xolvion and Crystal headed to the adventures guild, checking out the quest board once they arrived. The place was busy as one would expect, but the number of adventures had been on a steady decline in this area.

Rumour had it that a horde of goblins had set up in the area, being led by a powerful evolution of their line.

Word was that many copper and bronze rank adventurer parties had taken up the quest, only to have either been killed or kidnapped.

Xolvion was currently an iron rank, only being classed as one rank above bronze, the rank required to take on this quest.

The first thing was to register Crystal as an adventurer and form a party. Then they would be able to take the quest and head out. Goblins usually made easy targets for new adventurers, however, if faced in numbers they could pose a problem.

Xolvion had decided that it would be a perfect first quest for Crystal, allowing her to test her powers in live combat, without the aid of Luna or Zoranna to help her. Xolvion would be able to see what she was made of and help her improve her abilities as he saw fit.

"Hello, how may I help you today?" One of the desk clerks asked as Xolvion approached them.

"Yes, I would like to register my friend here as an adventure," Xolvion said, looking at Crystal who flashed a smile at the clerk.

"Certainly, let me just take some details." The woman said as she pulled out the form for a new starter.

Xolvion helped her fill in all of the information and then paid the joining fee of one silver coin, after that, the girl enchanted Crystal's new copper ID plate and then handed it to her explaining what it was for.

"Ok. So your name is Crystal, age 20. Race being human and your vocation is a mage." The clerk said as she confirmed the details.

"That's correct." Crystal said.

"Excellent. That is your Copper adventures ID plate, make sure you don't lose it as you will need it to take and cash in quests."

With that all done Xolvion bid the clerk farewell and headed back over to the quest board, taking the one for the goblin hideout.

"This will be our first quest." He said to Crystal.

Crystal nodded as she read the information on the poster, seeing that the objective was to wipe out the reported goblin nest and rescue any survivors.

"Ok master, I'll follow your lead." She said as she smiled at him.

"Excuse me?" A voice suddenly said from behind Xolvion, getting his attention as he turned around.

A group of two other adventures with a bronze plate around their neck stood before them seeming a little nervous.

"We couldn't help but overhear you are taking the quest to clear the goblin nest." The male said.

Xolvion could see he was a simple swordsman, owning shabby leather armour and a single long sword.

"We are." Xolvion said, looking to his other companion.

"Please, allow us to join your party and come with you." She suddenly blurted out, seeming almost despite.

Xolvion took a good look at her, seeing she was a mage. He couldn't help but notice the look in both of their eyes and wondered what was going on.

"Why do you want to come so badly, surely it's not for the pleasure of killing goblins?" Xolvion asked.

Both of them suddenly bit their tongue as they realised they had come across as desperate.

"I'm sorry. But I can't take people I can't trust." Xolvion said about to turn his back on them.

"W-wait!" The man said as he grabbed Xolvions shoulder.

Crystal grew angry all of a sudden and slapped his hand away with her staff, giving him a serious look.

"It's ok Crystal." Xolvion said, calming the situation down, turning to look the two of them in the eyes.

"Let me guess. You have people you care about that have been taken by the goblins?" Xolvion said, seeming to hit the nail on the head.

The pair didn't have to say a word, proving that Xolvion was right.

"Please. No one else will help us." The girl then said as she gripped her staff tightly.

"We don't have the money to pay anyone, and no one can be bothered taking on a low-level goblin quest." The man said.

Xolvion sighed before he turned to look at Crystal.

Crystal looked into his eyes and then back to the pair of adventurers, giving her master a nod.

"Ahh." Xolvion sighed, knowing that Crystal was far too kind.

"Fine, but I can't be held responsible for anything that might happen to you." He then said, getting a sudden burst of joy from them.

"Really! You mean it!" They both shouted as they took Xolvion's hands in their own.

"Alright, get what you need and meet us back here in an hour." Xolvion said as he took his hands back.

The two nodded as they got their act back together.

"Alright. My name is Owen. And this is Gwen." Owen said as he introduced himself and his partner.

Xolvion nodded, flashing them a smile.

"I am Xolvion, and this here is Crystal. A pleasure to meet you." He said, noticing Gwen blush a little as she looked into his eyes.

"Ok, let's get a move on Gwen, we will be as quick as we can!" Owen shouted, snapping Gwen out of her daze.

Xolvion nodded and watched them run away to get their supplies in order before they set off.

"Sometimes I wonder why I do these things." Xolvion thought to himself.

He was snapped out of his thoughts by a small tug on his cloak coming from behind him.

Xolvion turned around to see that Crystal was the one responsible, having a sheepish look as she was a little red in the face.

A wicked smile suddenly crossed his face as he knew what she wanted.

"Really? Here?" He asked, getting a nervous nod from her, causing him to smile even more.
