Amber was busy reading the information provided by the investigators on the internet without realizing there was someone keeping a very close eye on her in the middle of the night.
….
Outside.
"Following someone is not something a sane person would do and stalking someone physically is a criminal offence." Walking towards her, Arnold added, "Aren't you aware of that?"
"Aren't you doing the same thing now? You are also following a woman in the middle of the night." Walking towards him, she asked, "What are you doing here?"
"Shouldn't I be the one asking you that?" When she did not say anything, Arnold inquired, "Cynthia, what are you doing here in the middle of the night?"
"Observing what humans do at night," she casually answered.
Taking a deep breath to calm himself down, he stated, "Look, I don't care what you are doing. All I want you to do is stay away from Amber."
"So you know—" Cynthia raised her brows.
"Does it really matter? All I am asking you is to stay away from Amber and stop following her everywhere. She is very smart, if you don't keep a low profile she will eventually find out everything," Arnold tried to explain his point to her.
Walking towards him, she smiled, "So you are aware that Amber is special."
Ignoring her statement, he glared at her. "For the last time, stay away from her. I let you in my hotel for some other reason not to stalk and creep my guests out."
"Oh come on Arnold, we both know she is much more than just a guest. You know me, I never follow humans until they make me curious and this one—" Shifting her gaze towards Amber's house, she added, "This one makes me very curious."
"Whatever that is going on in her life has nothing to do with you or me. She is just a normal woman trying to lead a normal life in this chaotic world. Stop dragging an innocent soul into things she isn't aware of and—" Stopping midway, he frowned when he saw a black patch over Cynthia's right fingers. "What happened to your hand?"
Hiding her hand behind the coat she was wearing, Cynthia quickly answered, "Nothing—"
Taking a step towards her, he asked in a suspicious tone. "Are you hiding something?"
"Why would I hide anything from anyone?"
"Then why do I feel like you know something that you don't wanna share with anyone?" Arnold frowned. Cynthia's out of the box behavior made him doubt her intentions.
"You have probably started overthinking just like humans." Shrugging her shoulders, she scoffed, "What else can we expect from people like you?"
And without waiting for his reply, she hastily walked towards the other side of the road and soon disappeared.
After she left, Arnold stood there for a while before walking home. Though he knew Cynthia wasn't a threat, it wouldn't do any harm if he was a little careful around her.
He also knew how capable she was. In fact, the woman had no limit to what she could do. This was why he was worried for Amber.
