Chapter Six - The Unknown

"I'm just a spectator amongst you god's"

___________________________

I observed the unfamiliar faces around the table, a total of seven. Some engaged in trivial arguments, but I remained indifferent. Being a spectator was my preferred role. I relished in watching others navigate the stage, finding a twisted solace in their struggles. It offered a fleeting sense of hope that I wouldn't unravel into nothingness.

"That's enough!" Pride's voice echoed, attempting to quell the ongoing discord between Wrath and Greed. Despite his command, the two abruptly shifted their attention to me. I responded with a subtle smile. In an instant, two blades sliced through the air, narrowly missing my face.

"Don't interfere," they growled in unison, irritation evident in their voices.

"Newbie, you shouldn't stir up trouble so soon," Greed's piercing red eyes bore into me, but I responded with a nonchalant shrug.

"This meeting is to introduce the new god," Envy stated timidly. All eyes, except for Sloth's, turned to Pride, seeking explanations. My presence was a mystery even to me, but I found amusement in watching them grapple with the enigma I presented. Lust, positioned beside me, stared intently. I met his gaze and offered a small, ever-present smile.

"I think I know why the god chose him," Lust interjected, capturing the attention of all the gods. They awaited his explanation.

"For being too handsome," Lust mused dreamily, his eyes fixed on my face.

"He's the watcher," Sloth yawned lazily, stretching to seize everyone's attention.

"He watches over humans or any race, can intervene, or add an unexpected variable as long as it's within the constitution," Sloth revealed, locking eyes with me. He muttered something under his breath, but I couldn't catch it from this distance.

"Has he been watching us as well?" Lust inquired, his gaze still fixed on me. Before I could continue, Lust's probing question prompted me to interject.

"I can and can't. I can't personally watch you, but if you decide to go to the human realm, I can!" I began explaining before Lust playfully interrupted.

"So you've been watching me for some time," Lust queried, poking my side.

"You could say that, but I've never been allowed to intervene when the gods are around," I explained, gesturing to everyone. Their expressions shifted between relief and confusion due to my unorthodox presence.

"So why did you suddenly become a god?" Gluttony inquired.

I chose not to intervene, finding immense pleasure in observing their struggle with the unknown. The delight of knowing that these mighty gods were clueless fueled my contentment. Seated there, my smile deepened, relishing the enigma I presented.

"Quit with the games and tell us already!" Wrath bellowed, his hand poised to launch another knife. Pride, sitting beside him, managed to hold him back.

Maintaining my smile, I cherished the art of suspense. "I'm not certain. All I received was a letter inviting me here," I disclosed, fully aware of Lust's intense gaze fixated on me. It felt as though he desired to devour me, not like that was going to happen.

Sloth sighed, and the gods displayed annoyance, their confusion palpable. How tedious.

"So, a letter from X," Pride uttered, his hand enveloping his brown hair, concealing the scar etched vertically across his eye.

The gods' swift deduction left me momentarily surprised. I should have anticipated their innate awareness; gods, by nature, possessed unique insights. Glancing towards Sloth, his cerulean eyes, harmonizing with his hair, remained fixed upon me. A disconcerting premonition suggested that this wouldn't be the last time Sloth subjected me to his scrutinizing gaze.

I expected Sloth to be too lethargic to even cast a glare, so his focused gaze on me puzzled me. Nevertheless, it didn't concern me much. Returning to my duties before hunger set in, I glanced at each god. There was Wrath, his fiery red hair and matching red eyes giving him a striking appearance. Clad in a dark green hakama paired with a small brown cloak, he oddly resembled an inverted tree. Suppressing a laugh, I maintained my composed smile.

Next to him was Pride; Pride had brown-

Before I could observe each god, a new figure entered the room, surprising all the gods. While I was pleased at the prospect of feeding off their emotions, I was equally baffled since I had no knowledge of this newcomer. When I turned around, I was met with nothing but a shadow. Suddenly, a voice resonated.

"The new god, watcher, will be the newfound member of your group since you had to lose the last one."

The door closed, and I maintained my smile outwardly, but within me, a sense of anger simmered. Why did it have to be this group of gods among all others?
