Mutants

The bell clinked as you opened the door, "Goodmorning," the smell of coffee permeated your nose, "Ben, Shirley."

"Goodmorning!" Ben immediately greeted you back.

Why is Ben so happy to see me?

A shiver went up to your spine, "They're good people!" Newt said, expelling the negative thoughts brewing in your head.

They truly are, you thought.

The cute winged lizard was clutching on to your shoulder like a bird, surprisingly weightless.

Besides, he's invisible right now.

"Why don't you just shape shift into a cat or a bird since you said earlier... that the power I'll get will be the same as yours." you muttered under your breath.

"No! My current self is the prettiest!"

You just silently rolled your eyes, he's definitely made for Jihn.

Jihn only loves to come out when there's killing to do so it's all on you now. Although, sometimes the clown controls your hand when you make mistakes on the job. What a perfectionist.

After changing into the cafe's uniform, you proceeded to serve the customers.

Wow they're really early as fuck, you thought.

Giggles were heard inside the cafe, a group of college girls were looking at you and Ben. Great. With great beauty comes with great responsibility.

"Pftt-," the clown stifled a laugh, "Oh please, mon chèri."

You flicked your eyes to the girls and silently gasped.

Another well known Marvel character appears, with a brunette hair and a cute face, "Kitty Pryde."

Newt giggled, "Hihi, someone's interested~" you silently rolled your eyes. Well, who wouldn't be? It's Kitty in the flesh, for God's sake. You forgot that she was a student in the University of Chicago, maybe she's visiting here as a senior.

How lucky.

You acted like nothing was amiss, continuing your coffee work and serving as usual.

"In the small town of Illionis, a cannibal's hideout had been discovered by the authorities thanks to the help of the victim who escaped—"

You eyed the television and scoffed, "well that's anti climatic."

"Scarlet Spider strikes again, saving the citizens of Chicago from XXX villain—"

Ben slightly coughed, "Scarlet's pretty cool, huh."

His attempt to impress you was cute, "Yeah he is, he's the best there is," you slyly smiled.

Before Ben could reply someone interrupted, "Ehem— can I get two mocha frappe, a hot coco, and two iced vanilla latte?" Kitty smiled at you, "all in venti size."

You nonchalantly nodded, "right away ma'am," you punched the cashier, "that would be $18.50."

"Thanks," she replied. Keep the fanboy spirit in check, Anthony. Please.

Then, she looked at you intently, "also.. can I talk you for a minute?"

Huh?

"Kuhahha! This is fun!" obviously, the lizard was amused.

While the clown just laughed, "Is our Little Anthony finally a grown man now?" your face flushed with embarrassment. Shut the fuck up, Jihn.

"Sure..." you hesitantly replied, "just wait a second."

Ben gave you a thumbs up, clearly misunderstanding the whole situation, "uhm.." you just shook your head and helped Ben with the orders.

What does she want with me? Your eyes gleamed dangerously, "does she know about our current situation?"

Jihn chuckled, "Mon chèri, it's not like we can hurt her. How sad, I wanted to open up a mutant's body."

"She's a good person, Jihn," unless it's her evil variant.

"I can burn her to crisp if ya want!" Newt seems happy to help.

You chuckled and just decided to go with whatever the universe have planned for you, "well.. fuck it."

After you were done with the orders, you went outside with Kitty, "so.. what did you want to talk to about?"

"I'll get straight to the point," she paused for a bit, "there's a safe haven out there for mutants, it's a living island called Krakoa and Professor found you with his cerebro."

Jihn and Newt whistled, also shocked with the bombardment of words you've recieved. Does the universe identifies you as a mutant? How boring. Surely, it's much more than that.

She added, "he says you have an unimaginable power.. and has the potential to be an Omega level mutant."

You jaw went slack at all the information you just recieved, "wait a fucking minute," you rubbed your temples and said, "an Omega level? You must be mistaken, I just awakened my power and it's just shapeshifting."

"Well, Anthony, there's a lot more to uncover and I'm one of them hehe," Newt seems amused.

It all seems like a dream a come true to a Marvel fanboy but sadly, you have a past you that didn't want anyone to know about, especially when it comes to your idols.

They might just kill you on the spot if they ever found out. And that would be depressing as fuck.

You swallowed your hesitation and gently declined, "I'm sorry.. but I think I'll stay where I am."

Kitty sighed, "well.. Professor said if you ever refused, the gates are always open for you. It's in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the main base." she contemplated, "Anyways, I'm only here because I happen to be here. I mean, I can't even go there."

Is it because she's not really a mutant? She doesn't know this fact, though.

You nodded, "alright, thank you for that information," sincerely thanking her for showing up and fulfilling your fanboy dreams.

"Aww that's it?" both Jihn and Newt whined.

Kitty bid her farewell to you and returned to her friends, they seem to tease her about it. You shook your head and went back in because these orders are not making themselves.

"Aye aye!" Newt is so fucking cute.

Jihn just grunted, "let's go back already, I wanna make some coffee."

This unprecedented event made you a bit apprehensive. The conversation with Kitty made you wonder why would Professor recruit you, a powerhouse at that.

Seems like a storm is brewing...
