We are never getting back together

"How can you do this to me?" Maddie was bawling in the back seat of their car.

"Maddie, Jim, and I just met. Even though I don't know what we are, all I know is that we regularly talk, and that's it. He left before I left Korea, and this is the first time we've ever seen each other.

Nothing happened between us, I swear. He just visited me once. I didn't mean to feel you left out."

"I don't mean that!" Maddie growled. "You drag me to meet the most important people in my life while looking like this!" Maddie pointed at her outfit. Amy couldn't help but laugh. She was scared that her sister might hate her for seeing Jim, but she was more worried about her looks.

"I was so shocked I could barely talk. You have to warn me next time, or else I will literally disown you as my sister."

Fitzgerald Household.

"Dr. Amy, the madam, would want to see you in her office," the maidservant informed Amy.

Both Amy and Maddie looked at each other. Being called in their mom's office is like being called in the principal's office. What offense did Amy do this time?

"Mom, you called me?"

"Yes, sit." Amy's mom put down the documents she was reading intensely.

"When are you gonna start at Harvard? It's been two weeks since you came home, and I don't see you do something productive."

"I'm not in a hurry. Also, I've been attending sculpting workshop. I love it so much that I am thinking of actually taking a class."

Amy's mom looked at her ominously. As if not hearing what Amy said, she clasped her hands, put her chin on top of it, and continued talking.

"Did you and Noah clear the air?"

Amy stiffened at the question.

"Mom, can you please let it go already? Noah and I are never going back together?"

"Oh really? Mmmmmm. That's not what I heard." Amy's mom said monotonously while looking at Amy vehemently.

"And you heard what, Mom?" Amy couldn't hide her irritation.

"Did you also hear that I caught him kissing another girl? The day after, he asked me to marry him. Did you also hear that I suffered trauma from all the cyberbullying I got when the scandal broke out?".

Amy stood up, her scalp itching from anger. "I don't know what you heard, but Noah broke my heart, which led me to have social anxiety and trust issues. I would appreciate it if you ask me directly next time". Amy stormed out of her mom's office. Her blood was boiling. 'Why would her mom rather hear what other people have to say than ask her directly?'

Amy intentionally avoided her mom since their dispute. One more week, and she's gonna have to leave again. How will she tell her mom she's going while there's still too much tension between them?

"Hello?" Amy answered her phone without looking at who it was.

"Is this bad timing?" The sweet voice on the other line asked.

Amy checked her phone to make sure she was not just imagining things. "Sorry, I am just having a bad day. Nothing too extreme."

"Do you want to talk about it over coffee?"

"Coffee? I'm still in country Q. I leave for Korea next week. Coffee sounds amazing, though".

"Well, aren't you one lucky lady? I'm still in country Q. The team decided to take a little time off before our busy schedule next week".

"Are you still in Sin city?"

"No, I'm staying in B.Hills with other members for now. How about you? Are you back in Midwest?"

"Yes, I have been exploring the city and neighboring states a little."

"Would you mind bringing an extremely handsome companion to your explorations?"

"As long as that extremely handsome companion won't attract any necessary attention."

Amy and Jim continued to talk and planned their spontaneous adventure over the phone.
