Chapter 4: Illness Is Cured

When Shen Qinglan was eating the fourth piece of tofu, her father Shen Shan and mother Dong Yao finally returned.

Shen Qingju scooped some water for them to wash their hands before they sat down.

Both of them were surprised to see Shen Qinglan there.

Dong Yao looked at Shen Qingju and asked, "Why is Qinglan up?""

Shen Qingju said, "After you guys went to the fields, she got up by herself. She even changed her clothes and washed her face by herself. She just didn't speak.""

"She change her clothes and washed up all by herself?"

The two of them were even more surprised upon hearing this.

Ever since Shen Qinglan woke up, she no longer ran around aimlessly like she used to. She was no longer acting silly, crying, or throwing a tantrum. However, she did not say a word. Whenever someone asked her questions, she would stare at the person blankly.

"By the way, Aunt Liu sent another hen over this morning. She said it was for Qinglan. I didn't accept, so she put it in a chicken cage and placed it in our chicken pen."

As soon as Shen Qingju finished speaking, Shen Qinglan, who was drinking the tofu soup, raised her eyes and looked in the direction of the chicken coop.

"Pfft-"

Shen Qingju was amused by her reaction and said, "You didn't react no matter what people said, but when it comes to chickens, your reaction is quite fast."

"There's chicken for dinner tonight?" Shen Qingping said excitedly, "That's great!"

Dong Yao glared at Shen Qingping and said, "What's great about that? Aunt Liu already gave us one before, so we can't accept this one. I'll let your father send it back later."

Hearing this, Shen Qinglan lowered her eyes in disappointment.

The bland food she had been eating these two days was making her go crazy. It was not easy for someone to send some meat over, but her mother just had to send it back. This sort of life was really depressing!

Her disappointed expression was too obvious, and Dong Yao couldn't bear to see it, so she quickly comforted her, "Qinglan, we won't eat chicken, but I'll let your father go to the shop at the village entrance and get a piece of meat. Then, your sister will cook it for you, okay?"

Shen Qinglan nodded silently.

She didn't care if it was a pork or poultry anymore. As long as there was meat to eat, it was fine.

Dong Yao looked at Shen Shan in surprise. "She actually understood what I just said."

In the past, no matter what people said, Shen Qinglan would always smile at the person foolishly without nodding or shaking her head, so they didn't know if she understood or not, but now, it was obvious that she could understand them!

Shen Shan also said with a baffled expression, "Why do I feel that she has become much smarter after waking up?""

Shen Qinglan remained silent and lowered her head to drink the soup. Food was the most important thing for her.

"Qinglan, is the tofu soup delicious?" Shen Shan asked tentatively.

Shen Qinglan stopped drinking the soup and said after a moment, "It tastes better than vegetable soup."

Everyone was stunned.

"Third Sister, you're cured!"

Shen Qingzhu was the first to react. He still had soup in his mouth, so amidst his excitement, some of it sprayed onto Shen Qinglan's face.

Shen Qinglan was speechless.

She lifted her sleeve and wiped the side of her face before saying to Shen Qingzhu, "How dirty."

This time, not only was Shen Qingzhu excited, but so were the others.

"She's been cured? Really? Is Qinglan really cured?"

Dong Yao's eyes turned red from excitement.

Shen Qingju also shouted excitedly, "Great!""

Shen Shan, on the other hand, was relieved after his initial excitement.

Shen Qingping also clapped his hands and said, "Since Third Sister is cured, can I play with Third Sister in the future?""

Shen Qinglan was speechless. Could their excitement wait until after dinner?

"Third Sister, I'll cook bird eggs for you in a while," Shen Qingzhu said with a chuckle.

"Oh!"

After Shen Qinglan answered, she picked up the bowl and finished the soup in one gulp.
