"Who's next?" Alex asked frivolously, swallowing a couple of Stones of Soma. He possessed a total of fifty Stones of Soma he could use freely, which is why he wasn't stingy when consuming them.
The yetis froze, as if not knowing what to do in such a situation. They wanted to attack, but they'd always been reliant on orders. Without a leader, all they could do was fight the humans and die, or retreat, just to suffer under the reign of Beli.
In such a situation, the yetis obviously chose to fight the humans, as returning empty-handed to the cruel giant was like asking for death. They'd instead choose to save some lives and come out triumphant than either suffer or die at the hands of the giant.
Yet, they weren't sure if they could win. Their leader, the strongest of them all, had been outsmarted and executed by the leader of the humans. Their survival instinct screamed at them to retreat, but that was just instinct.
Alex did not waste time and began persuading the humans to attack. "The yetis have no leader. They're a battle species, which means their intelligence isn't developed! If we ambush them, we can minimize casualties while also getting rid of the threat!"
At Alex's confident words, the humans found themselves in a predicament. The amethyst-eyed boy wasn't really their leader, which is why some doubted his decision. Some believed attacking the yetis was like a death wish, which is why they refrained from acting without thinking.
"Alex is right!" shouted Maxwell and Eric simultaneously. "If we don't attack right now, we'll become their prey!"
As if to prove his point, Alex charged forward, decapitating a yeti in a single strike. The giant creature's head landed on the ground and the body collapsed helplessly. As the humans watched with shock plastered over their faces, a flame kindled in their hearts.
'We aren't weak,' they thought. 'We are prey, but we can become predators. Humans aren't helpless against other species.'
The belief ingrained into their minds lifted, as newfound confidence entered. If another human could do it, why couldn't they? Why did they have to be protected by a single human? Until when could Alex defend them? Would he even protect them?
As the humans began realizing the gravity of the situation, the yetis raged. The death of their comrade kindled a flame in their hearts, too. A flame representing rage, anger, and agony at the death of their companion.
And that is when actual hell began.
*
The humans against a species known for their brutality and physical strength. Also, they were the species created by Boreas, the God of the North Winds and the Bringer of Winter.
Despite the specific branch of the Morana Tribe being incredibly weak, the battle was fairly difficult for the humans, who had been residing in a peace-inducing society for centuries, and were oblivious to the dangers of nature.
Heads flew in all directions as a scene that would make even the most indifferent people vomit came to be. The battle ended, but not without countless casualties from both sides.
The yetis were annihilated, yet were successful in lowering the numbers of their opponents significantly. Just 245 humans remained from the former metropolis destination. Corpses were scattered all over the battlefield, as many of the survivors provided the fallen with proper burials.
Despite the inconvenience, no one dared to stop them.
The bustling city housing over two million people had been reduced to such an extent, and now barely possessed over two hundred people protecting its borders.
Yet, no one dared to cause a tantrum, because they knew. They knew the situation, and that everyone was doing their very best to even survive, let alone restore comfortable living conditions.
The population of elderly people and children had perished. The only survivor that wasn't yet a teenager was Maxwell, who survived due to his inherent abilities and assistance from Alex and other comrades.
Other than the person in question, all survivors consisted of people of middle age or teenagers since those age groups possessed the most energy.
"Is this the end?" Sarah asked as she offered the burly man, namely Eugene, a water bottle. The latter snatched the bottle out of the former's hands, gulping it down rapidly.
"It should be," Eric responded. "If not, then I'm afraid many more people will have to die. One of us might even die."
"Eric's right," Alex responded. "If this isn't the end, then I can't guarantee the safety of anyone, including me. This has been going on for hours, if not a day yet. All of us are tired, and our reserves of Stones of Soma are declining."
Alex handed Maxwell a beef jerky before wiping his hands on his shirt.
"Eric and I can still harness our mana, though," Maxwell stated. "Wouldn't that be enough?"
"The yetis were incredibly powerful," Alex responded. "If there's another wave, it's going to be exponentially stronger than the yetis, which even you guys can't handle yet."
The others had already accepted the fact that Alex was a prophet, which caused them to trust him even more. The trust, however, was not yet mutual.
"There's one thing I wanted to ask," Eugene announced as he cast a glance at Alex, his eyes glittering in excitement.
"Speak," Alex responded, taking a bite from his canned tuna. He then set the can on the boulder he sat on before unraveling his sword and using a cloth to wipe the blood off of it.
"How did you kill the leader of the yetis?" Eugene asked. "You were clearly inferior to him. Your size, physical strength, and he could even use ice!"
"A fluke," Alex responded disinterestedly, grabbing the can of tuna before Sarah could steal it. He then stared daggers at the latter, who could only cough in embarrassment at being caught red-handed.
"A fluke?" Eugene asked, dumbfounded. "That's obviously a… never mind. I'm not even going to ask."
As the group chatted lightheartedly, smoke emerged from the distance once again. Cautious yet fearful, the humans turned to stare at the disturbance, which seemed turbulent enough to shake the ground.
"Maybe the ogres are finally here?" Maxwell asked, unsheathing his knife. "Or maybe they're orcs."
Dust flew in all directions as the ground shook rapidly. The humans prepared for battle, readying their weapons as they performed a stance.
However, what emerged from the dust was vastly different from what the humans had originally expected. The species that had shaken the Earth with either their vast numbers or physical strength finally revealed itself, and the eyes of the humans widened instantly.
"Goblins?"
