The Jig Is Up

"Cyrus?" I looked at him confused.

"I was worried I didn't know where you ran off to." He wrapped his arms around me, hugging me.

I felt safe and warm but then I pushed him off. He stumbled back looking at me.

"How the hell did you just do that?" I asked anger laced in my voice.

"I can bend metal, just like you even though you don't know it or remember that yet, I'll explain everything just come with m-" Before he could finish I was flying objects after him.

I don't know how I was doing it but my anger was skyrocketing.

"How- when- why didn't you tell me? How do you expect me to trust you!" I yelled.

He dodged some of the stuff but they were mostly metal so he was controlling them.

I tried to hold back the tears but I couldn't any longer. I stopped attacking him and stood on the sidewalk glaring at him.

"I- I don't know what's happening to me, I almost killed Caleb. And everyone saw me back there what if they call the police." I started rambling.

"Maria just calm down." He walked over to me resting his hand on my arm.

I pushed his hand away and leaned against the wall, holding my head. The voices were slowly coming back, lingering at the back of my mind.

"I can't calm down, I don't know what is wrong with me and you- you can bend metal when since?" I replied glaring at him.

A flash of guilt washed over his eyes but he quickly covered it up "Just come with me and I'll explain everything."

"I don't want to hurt anyone." I whispered, sitting on the pavement.

He knelt down infront of me lightly holding my chin to look up at him.

"Don't worry okay, you'll understand everything soon." He wiped at the tears running down my cheeks. "But right now we have to go."

I slowly got up and he followed.

"What about everyone at the club, they all saw what happened."

He smiled "Madison has that under control, let's just get you home."

I didn't understand what he meant by that but I nodded. It took us a while to walk from wherever we were to my house. It was a silent walk, I didn't have anything to say, all I wanted to know was what's going on. After twenty minutes of walking we'd finally reached the neighbourhood I lived in and shortly after arriving at the house, Madison and Caleb were already inside. My mom and cousin were still nowhere to be found.

Cyrus and I stood at the doorway leading to the living room, Caleb was layed out on the couch with an ice pack on his forehead and Madison sat in an armchair across from him. She jumped up and ran over to me, wrapping her arms around my shoulders.

"Oh my god are you okay?" She sighed as I wrapped my arms around her back.

I didn't answer, how could I when I knew I was far from.

"How's Caleb?" I asked, looking down at the floor.

"Well considering you did throw him across the room he's fine actually." She nodded her head towards him.

I walked over to the couch, sitting beside him.

"How you doing?"

"Better than ever really." He smiled. I chuckled at his sarcastic attitude then looked over at Madison and Cyrus sighing again.

"I don't know what's happening, I certainly don't know how to control anything. This is literally all happening today and you all seem to know something so someone better start talking." I narrowed my eyes at each of them.

"About that, your right there's something we need to tell you." Madison says taking a seat across from me.

I raise an eyebrow at her and she looks at Cyrus, who was still standing at the doorway.

"What are you two waiting on." Caleb spoke up from beside me sounding annoyed.

"Well why don't you say it then." Cyrus huffed.

"My pleasure since you can't do it." He rolled his eyes, then took my hands in his "Sis." Then he paused and smiled "Madison has something she wants to say."

She got up, flicked him on the forehead then sat back down.

"Okay so since these two are such babies and have to give me the job of telling you this. Well...We're superhumans, mutants whatever you wanna call it that's what we are, there's really no nice way to put it."

Well damn.

"What?!" I looked at them wide eyed, I looked to my brother but his face was serious, worried even.

"We have powers. There are plenty of others like us too. But for now you know I can bend metal." Cyrus spoke.

"I can erase memories and kind of change them, I get premonitions and can read minds too." Mads says next.

"And I can absorb matter plus I'm also super strong but you seem to be way stronger than me since you threw me across the room like a rag doll and I may now have a concussion." My brother looked up at me.

How is this true, I've never seen them use their powers. Unless they've been hiding it from me all this time because that would make sense.

I got up from the couch, not saying a word to anyone as I made my way into the kitchen. I rested my hands on the counter and sighed.

This was all too much for me right now.

Looking in the cupboard I reached for a cup to get some water when it flew right past me and headed straight for the wall.

I jumped back in shock waiting to hear it hit against the wall, when it didn't I turned around only to see Cyrus standing at the doorway with the cup floating inbetween us.

"You really can't control your powers." I heard him say.

"How could I since I just got these today and I've practically never used my magic or powers or whatever you wanna call them." I spat out harshly. He looked a bit shocked at my remark. "And how-"

"There's small fragments of metal in it that I can control." He answered my question before I could finish asking.

"And you've had them since you were born." He added walking over to me.

"Then why am I just knowing this now?" I crossed my arms over my chest.

"Because it wasn't safe for you to have them when you were younger, certain things were happening and it was the safest option we had."

"Oh really and how is it safe for me now huh? I couldn't even protect myself from that drunk tonight. You all know how to control your powers and now I'm just going to start learning how to control mine. Do you think that's fair on me Cy?"

"It was dangerous for you to use your powers which is why they were binded until it was the right time. You could've been dead already because of them." He argued.

"Atleast if I had known that, I would've been able to hide them control them better even, instead of them being ripped away from me, how would I be able to protect myself!" I was beginning to get frustrated.

"I would've protected you until the time was right for you to know about them and learn."

I pointed my finger at him. "You can't tell me when the time is right for me to use my own powers and you can't protect me Cyrus, not you, not my brother and not Mads not all the time. You won't be around all the time."

"I would've tried because I made a promise and I won't break it."

"What are you-" Before I could finish there was a knock on the door.

I sighed, walking past him to go get the door he tried to hold onto my hand but I brushed him off. I reached to the front door, opened it but no one was on the other side.

"Um... Hello?" I said aloud.

"Who's at the door Maria?" I heard Caleb ask.

I looked outside one more time and then closed the door. Walking into the living room I shrugged "Nobody."

Caleb looked at me confused and I looked back at him confused. Suddenly that cold feeling fell over me again then everything went by quickly. Something sent me flying as my back hit the wall and I landed on the floor then I heard Cyrus shouting. The lights in the house went out.

Caleb jumped up, as he stood beside Cyrus I could see his muscles tense. Madison ran over to me.

"Maria are you okay?" She lifted me off the ground.

"What happened to the lights?" Caleb flicked the light switch on and off.

A cold breeze started rushing through the house, Cyrus stood infront of me looking at the door. His eyes locked onto something and his jaw was tense.

"What's going on?" I said but no one answered me because everyone was focused on the front door as it flew open, my mouth dropped in shock at the figure standing in the doorway.

"Mom." My voice cracked, there was a bleeding cut on her forehead and along her cheek, she looked exhausted but she still gave me a smile although it didn't reach her eyes.

"Run." She mouthed to me. My eyes went wide. What the hell is going on.

A tall slim bearded man stood beside her, holding onto her arm with a sinister smile on his face.

"Hello Maria, we meet again."
