The Hero of Our Time

In the far future humanitys galaxy-spanning Empire is attacked by two bloodthirsty aliens from beyond our galaxy. In the midst of the desperate struggle against these new enemies, a fanatical soldier of the Empire loses his life in glorious combat. Now lost in the void between life and death he then is sent back in time to prepare humanity for this coming danger. To help him do this, he is reborn as something more than just a regular human. With this and the help of extensive knowledge of old technologies and weapons, he will try to rewrite history. The only problem is that his knowledge of the long-forgotten past is extremely vague. According to old archeological findings on old Earth, it is believed that 3 world wars were fought. The knowledge of when and where isnt known but what is known is that the Second World War was a direct cause for the Third World War starting. And, the one who started the second world war was Charlie Chaplin and his evil red regime that killed millions and attempted to conquer the world. All seemed hopeless until the U,N came and defeated Charlie Chaplin and brought peace to the world for a while. This might look like its inspired by Warhammer, Diablo or other movie or game titles but its not, I promise. This book takes place in World War 2 Germany. This is an alternative take on World War 2 and beyond.

Chapter 7.

Minutes had gone by since the children fell. Opening his eyes he was greeted with a warming sight. The blonde little girl was pulling on his beard in wonder. He immediately noticed that the girls eyes seemed brighter and her skin clearer without any imperfections.

Around him, he noticed that men and women of all ages were looking at him strangely as they whispered to one another. Then he realized that his hand was still on the boy. With the girl in his other hand, he grabbed a hold of the boy and lifted him to his feet, then he asked.

" Are you ok? "

The boy just nodded eagerly and said stutteringly.

" Yes sir. "

To his eyes the boy seemed much brighter, his eyes seemed to be brimming with intelligence and just like his sister, the boys skin seemed flawless.

Patting the boy on his head he then went to hand the girl to her mother, But despite his expectations, the woman didnt grab the girl and instead went to wipe the blood from her knees away.

Doing so the woman gasped in amazement as she noticed that under the blood there were no signs of any wounds. Seeing this the crowd gasped as well and became louder. Then the woman did the same to the boy and the crowd gasped again as no wounds could be seen on him.

" Its a miracle! " One yelled.

Another person yelled. " Gods with us! "

Chad was taken aback as the crowd suddenly pushed Alfred aside and crowded around him. They placed their hands on him as some of them praised him others asked for help.

One said. " Please, I work in the coal mines and my lugs hurt. "

Another said. " Please help me, my back hurts. "

An old man said. " My eyesight is bad and I cant hear very well, please help me. "

A middle-aged woman pleaded. " Please can you help me, I'm unable to get pregnant. "

Taken aback by the peoples enthusiasm and pleading voices, Chad said.

" People please calm down. Just come to me one at a time and tell me what is wrong and I will do my best to help you. "

With those words, the 20 or so people quickly formed an orderly line on the sidewalk. The mother with her two children that he had already healed was first. Apparently, she was suffering from some chronic illness that had from generation to generation affected her family line. Most in her family line always gave birth to children with some sort of disabilities, some were worse than others.

Hearing of this Chad couldnt help but do his utmost to heal the woman and hopefully end this curse once and for all.

Meanwhile, Alfred had already gotten a Horse-Drawn Carriage for them and was worriedly watching the unfolding situation before him. While it was a great sight to see his savior helping others he worried for his well-being. Surely healing so many people in a short time was not something one could do in definately. And the curious eyes all around them that watched this scene were worrying.

What if the British, the French or the Jews heard of this? Surely they would do whatever was needed to get this power for themselves. So far there wasnt really anything tying his savior Chad to Germany, That was something he needed to find fast before anything else happened.

Biting his nails, sweat formed on Alfreds face as he watched Chad heal people one after the other. So far all the things he had healed were internal injuries or small defections that outside viewers didnt even notice being healed as nothing really changed, but then Alfreds heart skipped a beat as what seemed like a former army veteran from World War 1 joined the line.

The veterans face on the left side was completely burned and his left arm was gone. Sweat ran down his face as the veteran came closer to Chad and he contemplated on What to do.

Chad was smiling and laughing as the people thanked him with all their hearts and gave him praises. Many of them to his surprise simply thanked him and walked away with expressions as if they expected something more. He figured that the problem was the simple fact that their problems might have been big, but they were hardly noticeable so they werent even sure themselves if they were now healthy or not.

Having already gone through over 20 people he started to feel a bit exhausted and to his dismay, the line just seemed to be slowly growing with curious people. Sure he loved helping his fellow man but he just wasnt sure how long could he actually last like this.

Then before him came the first real man that resembled his people from the Empire. The man In front of him was truly hideous and pitiful. With his one good eye, the man looked at him with an expression that reminded him of his former lover right before he put a blaster bolt through her skull.

Then right before the man had a chance to speak Alfred grabbed a hold of Chad and said.

" I know you want to help him. But dont do it. Your attracting way too much attention to yourself right now. We need to leave now. "

Hearing this Chad frowned at Alfred, but he also understood his point of view. But still, how could he just leave such a pitiful man without helping him first? Then he felt the connection he still held to the Paradise Islands crystal and an idea came to him.

Looking at the veteran he said. " Please if you have a necklace or some metallic object you carry around daily then please show it to me. "

Confused the man complied and handed him a medal from his chest pocket and said. " For bravery in the field, I was given this medal. Will it do? "

Nodding his head Chad simply took the medal and focused on it. The man looked at him with concern as he asked.

" Sir, that is an extremely important item of mine please do not break it. "

Not saying anything Chad simply poured his inner light force into it and created a small eternal vortex of light energy within it. Then a smile came to his face as he handed the man the Medal and said.

" All done. Just remember to wear it day and night and I'm sure you will be well in no time. But when it comes to your hand I cannot promise anything, but your face will surely heal with this. "

Seeing no change in the medal the man seemed extremely confused as he then saw the Giant man hop into the wagon and start to ride away. Seeing this some people seemed disappointed while some yelled at him.

" Sir, Please tell us who you are! "

Hearing this Chad just yelled to them a simple answer.

" I'm an Aryan! "

Leaving the stunned crowd behind the two men now headed toward Alfreds home. Riding on the open carriage Chad gathered a lot of attention to himself once again. All around the city streets men and women all stared at him in awe, as children pointed at him as one of them yelled.

" Look Mother its a man bear! "

Baffled by this comment he looked to the people on the street. Now looking at them closely he noticed that many of them held tired, unwashed faces and wore extremely simple and dirty clothes. Some people seemed somewhat depressed but as their eyes landed on him, a spark of curiosity could be seen lit in their eyes.

Then as they passed a street that led further into the city a long line stretching for many blocks could be seen waiting there. A good portion of the people there also seemed malnourished with their thin arms and bony faces. This did not seem like the great and strong German race that Alfred had spoken of to him, no this seemed more like a weak, pitiful race of people.

Seeing this Chad turned to Alfred and said.

" Alfred whats this all about? I thought you said that Germany was strong just like its people, but looking around these streets all I see are weak people and a weak society that is struggling to feed its people proper meals. And, this city to me seems more like a small town with very few people living here and where are the walls and the defenses of this town? "

Confused by these words Alfred said.

" What do you mean? This is one of Europes largest cities with almost 2 million inhabitants. There is no war here and no need for any defenses, we are at peace. And as for the long lines its merely a passing thing of the times. Last year the United States stock market crashed and it has affected the entire world, but we are getting better bit by bit. I'm sure this will not last for long. "

Stunned by these words Chad said again in confirmation.

" Wait, you have no walls or defenses in this city? Dont you have Anti-air batteries, citadels or bomb shelters? What about outer forts or pre-built trench lines at least? "

Alfred simply shook his head as Chads mouth dropped and he looked to the city's streets in disbelief. Looking at the houses made of timber and brick, he wondered how were they still here. Such buildings could be easily destroyed by a few bombs. How were they then still standing?

The same problem was with the weak stone roads. An enemy could with ease drill their way through the ground and surprise the defenders wherever they wished. In the Empire all major cities had hard steel walls, the houses were also metal and the streets too. Everything In the Empire was built with efficiency but with defense as well in mind for the galaxy was too dangerous for them to just leave cities like this unguarded.

Then he felt a tap on his back as Alfred said worriedly.

" What is wrong, mister Chad? If something has upset you then just tell me and I will do my best to make it right. "

Shaking his head Chad spoke seriously.

" No Alfred you havent done anything wrong. It is this nation that has done the wrong by its people. A nation should always hold sufficient food reserves so that it can last at least 10 years on its own if a crisis like this emerges. But more importantly, how is it that this crisis has even emerged here? Where is all this nations land and why isnt it being used so that it can sustain its own people and be self-sufficient? Why does this nation rely on others? All nations should strive towards self-sufficiency. "

Thinking on his next words Alfred was cut off as the driver of the Carriage spoke up and said.

" Ha ha ha ha, well said. You speak like Adolf Hitler himself. He always speaks of the same things, of how our German land was stolen from us in World War 1 and now if we wish to become something great again will need to gain it back. Right now our land is too small and the population is too big for this land. Its all because those greedy Americans, British and French want the entire world all for themselves, so they decided to take our land from us and make us weak. "

Intrigued Chad said.

" I see, this Adolf Hitler keeps sounding more and more like a man I must meet and hear what sort of plans he has for this nation. Maybe we might even find a way to turn all this around for the better. "

He wasnt exactly sure how he was going to do it, but since Charlie Chaplin had not jet made his move, he would use this time to turn this nation for the better. But first, he needed some money.
