POISON

It was not the first time Aliya was seeing him sleeping but this time he was drooling which was rare. She could guess that he just finished treating a patient since he was still in his coat.

Aliya sighed and then walked out of his office, she then ordered his secretary to bring a tea for two. She then walked back inside the office and stared at the grown man who was drooling like a child.

As if sensing someone's presence in the room Deon's brow crinkled as his eyes opened softly.

His hand reached out and cleaned his eyes and when his eyes were clear he saw the face of the most terrifying woman on the planet.

"Geez" he said as he yawned.

"Can't you at least smile a little, it's a bad omen if the first thing you see in the morning is a frown." He said as he stood up from his chair and walked towards his hanger.

Aliya just stared at him with her eyes following his every movement. Before she strode towards his couch and sat down with her legs crossed.

"So tell me, what brings you to the medical department" Deon asked as he walked towards her with a playful smile on his face. "Did you miss me too much that you had to come see me?" he asked with a playful grin on his face.

As he tried to mask his tiredness but Aliya had already seen it.

Aliya snorted at his question.

"I'm here for a check up" She replied nonchalantly.

"Check up?" Deon asked with raised brows.

"You seem fine to me" he said after using his eyes to look at her.

"With your poor skills I wonder how you ever got a job in this hospital" Aliya said in her usual cold tune.

"Geez, maybe you really do need a checkup, I think your heart is missing" He replied with a sad expression.

All of a sudden Aliya stood up and walked towards the door.

"Hey are you leaving already?" Deon asked as he followed her with hurried footsteps.

Aliya opened the door and right on time the secretary was holding a tray that had lemon tea with two cups.

Seeing the boss already standing there she handed it over to her in which Aliya took and then walked into the office meeting the dumbstruck Deon halfway.

Not minding his behaviour Aliya placed the tea tray on the small side table present in the office close to the couch.

Deon followed her as he watched her pour tea in the two cups.

and a smile broke on his lips.

"You know I was actually sad after your rude comment but seeing that you brought tea for me..." Deon said as he touched his heart and wiped fake tears from his eyes "It shows how much you care for me" He said as he walked towards Aliya and then hugged her.

"I accept your apology" He said with a playful grin on his face.

Aliya didn't seem to mind the fact the Deon was hugging her but she didn't hug him back.

"I didn't apologize" Aliya said.

"The tea is to give you strength so you won't mess up during my check up" Aliya said dismissing any other thoughts he had in mind.

But Deon didn't seem to care and said.

"Yh yh I know you are lying" he said and then pulled away from her.

He reached out and held the two cups of tea and handed one to Aliya to which she accepted.

"So tell me why do you need a check up?" Deon asked as he sipped his tea but Aliya ignored him and headed toward his desk drawer.

She opened it and found a pain relief tablet. She then walked towards the mini fridge and checked the side and found a pack of can water. She then took one can and then walked back to him.

Seeing what she held in her hands his heart warmed at her gesture and he smiled. he wanted to tease her again but decided not to.

He took the drug from her hand and then placed his tea back on the tray. Aliya handed him the can water and he took the pain relief.

She then picked up his tea and gave it to him,and he took it without a word.

Aliya then walked back to his table to keep the remaining painkillers and pick her tea cup which she dropped.

"You still haven't answered my question" Deon said as he saw her walking back towards him.

"I was poisoned" Came her short reply.

"What!!!???" Deon exclaimed as he stared at her with wide eyes.

"How did that even happen?" Deon asked and Aliya narrated to him how everything happened from the bar to when she was saved but she didn't mention her saviours name.

"That's why I need you to test my blood, I want to know what was in that vodka" She said as she walked towards the testing lab inside the office.

"Why would someone want to poison you?" Deon asked as he followed her. but his question was ignored by Aliya.

He just sighed and took her blood sample and placed it on the device for checking.

"Wow, whoever the person is he seems to be a crook." Deon said as he kept on check-in the results.

Aliya looked at him with eyes asking him to explain.

"I mean the drug he used, this drug had been banded, because of its effect. I read a rumor online that a truck was stollen when the drugs were being moved to somewhere it be burnt. so I'm guessing that either the person who stole the truck is the one who poisoned you or maybe his associates." Deon said and continued.

"But that's not the funny part, what I don't understand is that the substance is still inside you and it seems like your cells are trying to fight it."

Deon said with astonishment.

"Highly dangerous to health it leads to hallucinations, dizziness, loss of balance and....Death" Deon said the last line as he gulped.

"I guess someone is trying to kill me" Aliya said not affected with that thought.

"How long can my body handle the substance?" Aliya asked again.

"That's the problem Aliya, your body seems to be forming its own defense system, there's no telling how long and I'm not sure there's any drug that has been made to cure this." He said. "The good news is that this amount isn't enough to kill someone that's why you were only feeling the early symptoms, and if your cells continue fighting then you should be alright." he said.

With that Aliya walked out of the testing lab.

"Aliya seriously this isn't a joke you could die, as of now you are not allowed to drink anything or eat anything outside." He said in a bossy tune his playful expression was gone.

"You are not the boss of me Deon" Aliya said.

"But in this case I'm your doctor and you are the patient" Deon said sternly and Aliya couldn't find words to retort.

"Aliya seriously someone is trying to harm you and you need to take precaution" Deon said with his voice lowered down.

"Pls" he said again.

Seeing him like this Aliya just sighed and then said.

"I'll try" She said and then walked out of the office.

Deon on the other hand walked back towards the testing lab, something was not right with her cells.

Jane was about to go get coffee when she saw Raymond.

"Hey" she said with a small smile on her face.

"Hey" Raymond replied with a smile on his face as he walked towards her.

"Are you ready?" he asked Jane who seem to not understand.

"We were suppose to go get burger" he reminded her with a smile.

"I don't remember agreeing to that request" Jane said.

"I also don't remember you declining" Raymond retorted with his charming smile as he stretched out his hand to which after much hesitation Jane accepted.

Aliya watched as they both walked towards the elevator leading to the hospitals cafe. Seeing the like that she sighed and then walked back to her office with an image of a man lingering in her mind.
