"The union between his father and mother was not out of love, and the only reason why they remained together was because of her family's history and influence. The three of them never spent time together in the same room, and when they did, it usually did not end up well."

He closed his eyes for a brief moment before forcing them back open. 

Daphne couldn't imagine growing up in such circumstances. Her own mother was a merchant's daughter, and her father had crossed paths with her on a trip out of the palace. Against her grandparent's wishes, he insisted on marrying a commoner, even if it meant potentially losing the crown to her uncle. 

"The little prince's father would often yell and shout, and his mother would spend the entire day screaming back. At night, she would wipe tear after tear away in an empty room. Only, the whole time, the little prince would watch her, wondering why things were the way that they were."
