Identity

The demon said nothing and just stared at Kies with an empty expression.

"Um..."

The demon continued standing there saying nothing. Kies examined her face. He couldn't tell what she was thinking. 'Maybe she was actually lying and she was trying to come up with something?'

After some time, the demon finally opened her mouth. "Do you know of the war?"

"Which war?"

"The Red Tides War."

"Yes," Kies responded. The Red Tides War was the name of the war between the demons and the other races. It lasted sixty long years and countless lives were lost. It was said that everywhere one looked, the grounds would be littered with bodies, and whenever it rained, the grounds would be stained in puddles of red, as if a tidal wave of blood had gone through, hence its name.

"It was said that it was the demons against every single other race, but that is not true. The demons had two allies. One of them was the Soulless, and although they were a completely different race, due to similarities in how we looked and acted, they ended up being lumped in together with us demons. As for the other one, it was your race, the Aeos "

"Aeos? I have never heard the name before. I also never heard of the demons having allies during the war either."

"That is because the humans love leaving out details like this. They're all liars." The demon's expression and tone changed when she said the word "liars." Her face was one that was filled with anger and her tone matched it perfectly.

"You don't sound like you like us humans very much?" Kies noticed.

"Us?" The demon sounded agitated. "Why are you still calling yourself a human? You aren't one of those fifty rats."

"I have a hard time believing what you are saying," Kies admitted.

"So I just need to prove to you that you aren't a human then." The demon thought for a moment before pointing at Kies' legs. "You have no blood."

"What?" Kies looked down and saw that there were still two arrows in them. Strangely, he didn't feel pain from there anymore. Kies checked the wounds carefully and saw that what she said was true. He wasn't bleeding at all.

"Furthermore, you managed to walk from where you landed to here without any problem despite having two arrows lodged in either of your legs. And if that isn't enough proof for you..." The demon unsheathed a knife from her side, threw it at the ground in front of Kies. "You can cut yourself all you want and you still wouldn't find a single drop of blood. I don't know how you never noticed something like this before."

Kies stared at the knife in the ground. He was shocked by what the demon had said. How did he not have any blood at all? Now that he thought of it, how did he not realize this at all before? He was always practicing behind the mansion and had received countless scratches and cuts and yet, he never found it strange that no blood came out of them. No, he definitely bled before. During the fight with the demons, he remembered being covered in blood. He didn't know why he wasn't bleeding now.

"Let me tell you something else as well," the demon added. Kies snapped out of his thoughts and looked at the demon.

"What else are you going to tell me?"

"We demons never despised the other races-" The demon paused and corrected herself. "Well, at least not before anyway. Now we really do want to make all of them disappear."

"What do you mean?"

"We didn't have a problem with any other race other than the humans. They were always causing trouble for us but we just ignored it most of the time. They didn't like our magic, whether it was because of fear or jealousy, they went and told the other races that we were planning to wipe them all out." The demon crossed her arms. "Now, do you need me to explain the rest, or are you going to come with me?"

Kies looked at the demon. She waited patiently for his decision. Kies was unsure of what to do or say. Everything the demon said was completely different from what he had learned. After some thinking, he finally said, "I'll believe what you say for now. But first, I want to stand in that circle."

The demon turned around and saw that circle that Kies was talking about. She walked around it and carefully examined the symbols and said, "I believe these symbols are in your language, and if I am not mistaken, it should be a teleportation array."

"Teleportation?"

"Yes, that is what I said. Anyway, who set this up?" Kies hesitated. He didn't know if he should tell the demon about the wind spirits. He was still unsure if he could trust what the demon was saying, but he had to make a decision. It was either the humans or the demons. One or maybe both of them were lying.

"What are you blanking out for?" The demon asked.

"Sorry, I was thinking about something." After careful consideration, Kies decided to temporarily trust the demon. "That circle was set up by a wind spirit,'' he told her the truth.

"Wind spirit? Hmph, that explains why I can't see anything even though I'm feeling fierce auras from every direction. We're surrounded by them. In that case, we better take the teleportation array."

"We? You're coming with me?"

"Yes, one of your race's abilities is controlling wind spirits. This array should take us to where your kind is, and if so, I want to talk to them as well."
