The Mysterious Dream

"Evolution requires survival of the fittest and if fittest means that favorable traits are something that will give you a higher chance of survival, won't it benefit all of us if we acquire and achieve something more?" said the man in a lab coat.

Alex tried to bulge and the man noticed it. "he's awake." Said the woman who the man was talking to earlier. "Then make him sleep." The man in a lab coat replied, and he immediately went out. Making the creaking sound of the door the answer. Alex heard footsteps as he tried to open his eyes fully, but the woman already injected him with something that immediately put him to sleep just seconds after.

--------------

The day soon turned to night as the moons and the stars soon took over the vast, seem endless sky.

Alex and the others took a little rest before setting out again to find Christian.

Equipping themselves with glittering hope, they were convinced that they could not just save Christian but also Kent.

Alex thought of his weird dream that seemed too realistic to be fictitious. His mind was blank, he could not think of anything that happened before but the poisoning of their classroom when they got here in this world. Alex thought of sharing it with his classmates. However, he also considered the possibilities of unending questions that will trigger all of their big brains on how they got here. I shouldn't, he thought. Not until everything's sure.

Alex looked at the sky as the other continue to talk, encircling the bonfire.

"How beautiful." He whispered. He may have thought that he whispered but with the silence of the marshland, it's not too much of a whisper that his friends can hear it. "Yeah, it is." Replied Gloyd.

"The moons, three of them. Just by looking at them we can really see that we aren't in our past world." Ivan said. Everyone agreed.

"This world. It's a wonderful world, but a harsh one." Maeje said while she tried to poke sticks on the ground.

"Harsh but real." Alex said. Everyone looked at him. He then smiled. "Monsters exist in every world, or the two worlds that we've been part of at least. They just don't possess something like fangs and furs and gigantic bodies, but they're still monsters – humans." Everyone continued to listen.

"Different types of crimes are happening, may it be murder, corruption and even harassment. These are committed by monsters." Alex added.

"You're right, how can these people commit such crimes? If we have just lived with kindness in our hearts. The past world that we have lived in must have been wonderful." Gloyd also said.

"Bad people do bad things because they're capable of doing it." Alex said. "And that makes them monsters." He added.

Everyone turned silent. They must have thought that this world was no different from the past where security, safety and peace were all but illusions.

"In this world, monsters exist, literally." Alex chuckled.

"You're right, Lex. At least we won't be fighting our own kind anymore." Ivan joked or he didn't.

Ivan stood up, "Okay, we should go." Tapping his worn-out jeans, trying to clean the dirt on it.

"But it's still dark." Exclaimed Darline.

"We're getting near, now. we should not waste time. We slept and took a good rest too. We won't be that tired when we get there." Ivan added.

Everyone was busy readying themselves for the departure when the sky suddenly blackened, covering the moons and the stars above. The sky flashed big chunks of lighting accompanied by the giant roars of thunder where heavy raindrops came falling.

"Now that's a sign that we should get packed and go." Ivan said and everyone laughed.

"Let's go!" Alex shouted and everyone followed.

Splashing sounds resounded over the marshland, helping the sound of the heavy raindrops along with it as Alex and his friends ran towards the possible route that Noel had taken. Tree after tree. Swamp after swamp. Everyone continued to hurl towards the destined enemy lair.

"Look!" Maeje shouted as she noticed the wooden cabin laid out in the middle of trees.

Everyone stopped. "A hut? It's my first time seeing something so civilized in this world." Gloyd said. Everyone nodded. "But why? Should we check it?" Alex muttered.

"Stay, I'll go first." Ivan said voluntarily.

"Be careful, it's too dark." Alex whispered where they moved backwards behind the tree beside them and looked towards their classmate.

Ivan entered the wooden cabin carefully, tip-toeing. Thanks to the heavy rain's sound, it was effective even when walking on the grass. Ivan opened the wooden door. It must have let out a creaking sound but was soundless because of the rain. Everyone who was looking at their classmate was nervous about it, and were getting ready to back up anytime as they held their weapons fiercely. Naught, Ivan went out and signaled the others that they may now come in where everyone rushed towards the wooden cabin.

The girls squeezed their hairs to dry the water out, keeping them dry. Where the boys just flapped their heads like dogs who just finished bathing.

"It's too dark. Do we have something to light on?" Alex said, who carefully keeps on walking to observe their surroundings."

"There are pots in here." Gloyd said as he continues to watch over his surroundings.

"You're right. But how?" Alex replied.

"Is there another human being in here who we didn't yet know?" Maeje asked.

"Not sure, but what's sure is that it possesses knowledge from the past world." Alex replied

"A monster with intellect." added Darline.

"Yes, like the queen bee." Alex said.

Everyone circled beside the pots laid on a wooden table. The pots were of different sized, capable of containing different types of liquids.

"To consider, these are actually very useful to us." Alex thought and everyone agreed.

"Should we take it back with us?" Ivan asked.

"We can, but the mission comes first" said Alex. He sat down to a nearby chair and sighed, "I'm tired of running, let's just rest for a while, the rain's heavy and we could not go any further without protection, we might get sick."

Everyone looked for chairs where they could sit on, and some managed to see a bed not far from where they stood earlier, where they lied and slept.

------------------

The heavy rain halted as the marshland turned silent. The sun's rays soon shone into the wooden cabin's holes, making the people inside wake up as the lights pierced their eyelids.

"Well, that was a good sleep." Ivan said cheerfully.

"Yeah, I haven't slept on a bed for days now." added Darline.

"Should we go out and hunt for food? Let's eat before we continue walking." Alex suggested.

They nodded, and grabbed their weapons long them.

"Wait." Maeje stood at the entrance, frozen.

Everyone behind her were confused. "Maeje, what are y--." Darline could not finish her sentence and immediately said, "run" as they witnessed the turtle-headed man, gazing at them. With just almost 20-feet-distance that separates them from the monster, they have no choice but to run away swiftly.

Alex shouted, "Run!" and they went out from the cabin in a second, taking the right side as a course of exit. But it's no use, the backside of the cabin was covered with a large swamp, making the path where the monster was standing, the only way to take to get out from the dangerous situation.

"What do we do now?!!" exclaimed Maeje.

"Let's go back, and lock the door. We will think of a way to get out." Alex suggested. His hands were trembling.

"With that little time?" Gloyd asked.

"According to Noel, the monster's slow. We do not have a choice!" shouted Alex where he ran immediately towards the cabin and eventually, everyone followed.

The turtle man, walked slowly towards them. Alex emptied the wooden table by pushing the pots away from it, where they locked the door with it, barricading it.

"What do we do now?!" Maeje said in panic.

Another danger came to them as they now faced the monster who Noel was talking about. Can they defeat it? Alex thought. Christian! It has Christian, they have no choice but to defeat it. Suddenly, a loud whacking sound echoed by the door. Leaving Maeje shouted in an instant! Alex looked at his classmate and her eyes were filled with terror.
