Chapter Five

Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Blair finally arrived at the state, driving passed the welcome sign that read Welcome to New Mexico. The scenic roads greet the woman with canyons and mountains. The countryside view was a much-needed break and change of pace Blair was looking for. Although, she would've enjoyed it more if she was on vacation. She will have to carry her wish list at a later date and save her spare change money for tours at a later date. Right now, she is on a mission - a personal one.

Her cell phone rang, and the dashboard of her vehicle displayed an unknown number. The casual ringtone told her it came from her work cell, meaning she has to prepare for anything. Blair moved her eyes quickly to read the words 'restricted' appear. Blair could only guess it was someone from the Division of the Tenth. She pressed the call button sitting on her steering wheel, accepting the call, "FBI Agent Nelson." She greeted.

"Ah, FBI's Fifth Division Special Agent Blair Nelson." A woman spoke slowly, as she is trying to sound tedious and cunning. Blair narrowed her eyes. "It's so nice to speak to you, finally. I hope you don't mind; it was difficult trying to reach you. Marcus held your number from me for quite some time." A half-smirk formed on the young woman's lips. "He must have a reason to hold my information from you, Agent Harrison." The causality coming from the caller's tone indicated to Blair that this was Freya Harrison. "Freya will do just nicely, Blair." Blair was in no mood for idle chit-chat or a welfare check on her location. Instead, Blair ventured straight to the point while she is on the phone with Freya.

"Let's get straight to the point, Freya." Blair dragged out the supervisor's name, anticipating getting her answers. "What do you want from me? I did my part and I failed - I let Salan die. This should ban me from no longer having any attendance with the Division of the Tenth." "As I am sure you are aware, Marcus told you the potential that you have when you became a Guardian. In fact, you were the youngest in the Division of the Tenth's history to agree to be a Guardian." The more Freya spoke, the more Blair's hands tightened around her steering wheel, she was already getting tired of the repeated knowledge.

"How did you even find me? The Fifth Division shouldn't even exist to the public government." It was a daring question, but it was a fair one; Blair felt as if she had her right to ask, not to mention, her privacy was violated because someone was stalking her. "You should know already. Who found you when you began your Guardian duties?" Blair inhaled through her nose deeply; Freya was correct, Blair knew the answer.

"Xan." "Exactly. Marcus never told me anything about you. In fact, he never spoke about any of his employees. The email I sent to him was a complete surprise, let me tell you." Freya's words sounded like garbage; however, Blair had no choice but to listen. At the same time, Blair gave only loyalty to Marcus and Ian, quite positive neither one of them had spoken about Blair to that outside of the FBI. Even Ian, Blair had to give respect to him. While he may have been a pain in the ass with a bug up in it, he stood by Blair when she needed assistance. For that, she was ever grateful for him.

"I am sending you coordinates on your location in a few minutes. I'd like you to stay with us in the facility; we have plenty of spare bedrooms for you. There's no need for you to stay in those hotels. We will accommodate your requests. Blair, you have done your best, protecting Salan to your abilities." "Salan and I didn't want to have any involvement with the Division of the Tenth. I was a Guardian to him of my own accord - as his lover. We only wanted to live in peace and harmony. I wanted to show him the world. Whoever murdered him, is going to be held responsible. And, quite honestly, that was my hope when I joined the FBI. It was a bonus when I was asked to join the Fifth Division."

"Well, you have that option now. Confront the demon in front of you. Show the Woodland Elf the damage he caused to your heart. Here is a little piece of information to change your mind. The Woodland Elf we have in custody - is Salan's murderer." Blair's eyes widen in amazement, but she was not thrilled. The young woman did her best to not show any kind of excitement. She wanted to call Freya out and tell her that she was lying. In a wise move, Blair decided not to speak. Silence only filled the space briefly. Freya was the one who broke it, "Well, I can tell by your silence you don't believe me."

"There's a saying that goes by the intelligent to not believe anything they see on the internet. Wise and lonely people don't believe in other people's words until they see them for themselves. Believe me when I say it has nothing to do with you; it's just, my ways of thinking and it all went back to when I first met Salan, disguised as a human. I won't know until the time comes." Blair spoke with confidence, with no stutter in her words. Freya could tell Blair was preparing herself for years. She was ready; the woman thought to herself. "You are displaying confidence and bravery; I only just met you by phone. I hope those skills you bring to the table will be worth it for the Division of the Tenth. And eventually, young people such as yourself may even - "

" I don't want that to happen. I don't want them to go through the hurt that I've gone through. The pain, the loss. That is my hope for them." "That's where you will come in. We want you to benefit through the Division of the Tenth. An advocate, along with working for the FBI's Fifth Division. Come and just see what we have to offer. And confront Salan's murderer. We will serve Salan justice, as well as other pending charges against the elf." Blair leaned back, her head resting on the headrest, putting on her vehicle's turn signal, getting off an exit that led her to a rest area.

"I am sure you want to take a break; I'll send you coordinates so you can set yourself up to meet with us. In the meantime, I left you a tour guide." Blair drove to a parking stall, the brick building is on-site with signs and maps of the local eatery and things to do. Blair placed her vehicle in park, noticing a familiar gentleman dressed in black, sitting on the bench, he was slouching, his chin resting on his hand. Blair narrowed her eyes, witnessing him sitting on the bench. "Why is Xan here? If he's here, no reason for you to send me coordinates, right?"

"If I think what you're going to do or say, you'll want the coordinates, you stubborn girl. We will be in touch." The line goes dead, Blair breathed in deeply, not excited to meet Xan right away in New Mexico. He lifted his head, his eyes covered with sunglasses, his thin lips curve to a friendly smile; their eyes met.
