Imprints are really a vague concept because if you have mastery in aspecific law you can create an imprint that does various things such as healing and the best part about them it that few types of imprints cost a lot of energy and they last forever so before a battle you can store energy in the imprint and only use a small amount of energy of activating the imprint and one can heal without diverting attention or consume a lot of energy.

Imprints do get a bad reputation however because he most widely used imprint is a slave one that only requires a wisp of one's soul and the slave and joins them together and put in deep in the soul sea them the join wisps of the soul would be sealed and the imprint would be also sealed.

The imprint at that point would interact with the joined soul wisp and the imprint will constantly notify the person that used their soul would be able to tell the immediate location of the slave and be able to control them(depends on the soul imprint quality) with ease.
