Teacher & Training

Arthur survived, that was at least on mom's and dad's minds, they were so glad that they cry. I finally felt relieved, my existence hasn't changed something but it's good for now.

...

The time has arrived and I'll finally get my own teacher. Dad goes to Xyrus Adventure Hall to recruit suitable mage to teach me since we have quite a lot of money to recruit at least A-Rank augmenter to teach me.

But she isn't A-Rank or AA-Rank... She is the S-Rank, the most powerful Adventurer you can find here but why is she teaching me? I don't know the reason but at least, I will get powerful with S-Rank teacher.

Peaceful morning, well... that was until someone appeared.

Someone has just appeared in front of me while I tried to train my swordsmanship skill, she is a beauty with heterochromia eyes. Left is green and right is golden. But what most intrigued me is her hair color, it was white snow... it was unique.

With an emotionless face, she stares at me. I was stunned to see her appear out of nowhere.

She looks familiar, no... she looks like mom? There's some familiarity but she's young and mom never mention she had a sibling.

"Alex!" Dad shouted my name, I turn my face to dad, asking who she is.

"She is your new mage and combat teacher, Lucy, S-Rank mage." Dad said.

I widen my eyes, S-Rank? I didn't know S-Rank exist, this person in front of me must be powerful.

"Hello, my name is Alexander Leywin. Thank you for accepting my dad's request to train me." I bow my head, as I introduce myself.

She nodded, "...I see, you are indeed talented and polite just like your father said."

She said that but there's no hint of surprise in her voice, who is she? She's really creeping me out with the stare. Did she observe me when I'm training by myself? Creepy...

"Ah, Alex, make sure to listen to your new teacher. I'll be leaving now." After dad said that, he leave us alone.

Well, Dad is busy anyways. I turn my face to my new teacher, her expressionless face makes it hard to see what she's thinking.

"...Have you already checked your affinity?" She ask. I shake my head, I didn't know if my affinity will be the same with Art or not but it'll be a miracle if it did.

Then from her bag, she picks up a weird-looking orb and said, "Put your hand on the orb..."

Without hesitation, I quickly put my hand on the orb and its glow rainbow.

"I see, you are quadra-elemental augmenter with one deviance: Ice." She announced my affinities with straight face.

"Alrig-... wait, what?!" I'm quadra-elemental? With one deviance?! Well, that's not impressive as Art has but that's crazy.

She's really weird, how can she be this expressionless? Is she a robot or what? I'm sure that quadra-elemental with one deviance is rare.

"Let me introduce myself. My name is Lucy with no last name. I am the S-Rank adventurer and Ice augmenter. From now on, I'll be your teacher."

I nod, so she is an ice augmenter...

"Your training will start today and I will train you everyday to be stronger, I hope you exceed my expectation, Alexander Leywin." She said.

I nod again.

* * *

She's strange and weird, I think I'm overusing my weird here but I don't care since she is weird. But even if she's weird, she's incredibly powerful.

Our first training session is swordsmanship, I can't land a single hit on her and she's just casually dodging my wooden sword.

Breathing heavily and sweating, there's no opening at all. No... it was me who didn't think hard enough.

I sent another swing and aim at her legs but she quickly sidesteps making my attack attempt missed... If only my body is a little older, I could maximize my performance but I couldn't force my weak bone to be faster or it'll break and I don't want that.

"I know that's you are still a child but your attempt at attacking me is impressive enough. But today, let's end it here. You need to develop your muscle and mana first before thinking to land a hit on me." She concludes the training session.

I lay on the ground, breathing heavily. Mom on the side watching with cup of water approach me.

"Alex, here your water." Mom gave me a cup of water.

"Thanks, mom!" I smiled happily.

I glance at my new teacher and for a second, I think she just has a sad face when mom appeared but I guess it was my imagination.

"Thank you very much for teaching my son, do my husband already talked about the payment?"

"Ah, there'll be no payment for teaching your son. I decide to do this for free." Mom and I widen our eyes but for a second, it makes a little sense.

S-Rank has a lot of money and for them to teach without paying is because they are rich. I nod my head to myself, umu, I'm very smart indeed.

TIME SKIP!

A few months had passed, and mom's belly was growing larger, indicating that my little sibling was on the way.

My teacher, Lucy, has been teaching me a lot of useful things, so I decided to call her Master. Either it's about magic or swordsmanship. I've been progressing at a quick pace, which many people will envy.

Uncle Vincent and Aunt Tabitha were shocked to see an S-Rank mage training me, considering S-Rank status is almost as important as King's. S-Rank mage is different from others, their authority is their power and if S-Rank mage decides to rebel then it could devastate the area easily which most people don't want.

Lucy as the sole S-Rank mage is a valuable and dangerous person, she's not the person you wanted to mess with.

Let's stop talking about S-Rank mage.

Anyways, my mana core has reached the red-solid stage. That was not something I had anticipated. I'm advancing at a quicker rate than art. It was both awesome and terrifying.

Because I concentrate on swordsmanship and magic, my swordsmanship improvement isn't as impressive as my magic. But even though it's not great, it was good enough in my master's eyes.

Since I reached the Red-Solid stage. Master has been teaching me the basics of elements. She gave me a lot of pointers about fire, wind, water, and earth magic. It's really important to know the basics if you want to use it.

Ice magic is different than others. It may be more powerful than ordinary elements, but it comes with a cost: it is more difficult to train.

I've been trying to coat fire on my arms but only succeeded in coating the knuckles. Progress is progress. I can't rush my progress or I'll harm my body.

"Are you done with monologuing with yourself, Alex?" Master abruptly asked, I jolted from my position and snapped out of my reverie.

"Wha-? Sigh, never mind. Anyway, what's today's training, master? " I ask.

"Today, I need you to use ice magic on the pond. I wanted to see how much progress you made on your ice magic." The Master ordered

We then went to the pond to see if I could fully freeze the pond.

"Go on, I'm watching."

I put my hand on the surface of the pond and began to concentrate. The pond began to feel cold as a few seconds had passed. The master watched carefully from the side. Finally, the pond began to freeze slowly.

"Now, focus on spreading it." Master instructs me.

I tried as hard as I could to cover the whole surface with ice and finally, twenty seconds had passed.

The pond surface is now frozen with thin ice. I look at the master and see what she's going to say.

"Your ice magic has improved. Good job, Alex. " The master pats my hair with a faint smile.

You need to know that your master isn't an emotionless person, even though she sometimes feels empty, but the fact is she's someone with emotions too. She smiles when I grow stronger, whether it's big or small, and it was enough to prove that she is a kind person. She is surprisingly gentle, even though her strength is monstrous.

I grinned. It's great to be stronger than before, but being complimented is even better; I'm happy.
