With Grayson here, Jonas and Cayson weren’t aware their dad had shown up, and no one bothered to call them. They wanted it to be a pleasant surprise.

I pulled in and parked the car, then popped the trunk.

/"Man, this is great./" Cayson rubbed his hands together.

/"Hey, do you remember when we used to tie Patty’s barbies to bottle rockets and set them off?/"

/"Dude, it wasn’t funny. Dad beat our ass for our shenanigans./"

/"It was a little funny./"

/"Which part? We got our asses beat or threatened to have a bottle rocket shoved up our ass./"

/"Lighten up. Dad isn’t here, and we’re adults./"

/"If you say so./"

/"Come on. Help me carry the fireworks to the back, so we can set them up./"

We grabbed the fireworks out of the trunk and carried them to the back. We talked, unaware of the visitor who had shown up.
