Are You Being Rude?

Later at night, Governor Adewale called for K. At first, K had refused to come over to the house. But when he heard that it had something to do with Lanre, he went home to meet his father. He feared his father must have found out that Lanre was the one who actually released the video. On getting there, he got to realise it was a different case. But it was not entirely good for Lanre. His father was suspecting that Lanre could be working for the opposition and had come as a spy disguising herself as his mother’s PA.

“She is not a spy. Lanre works and has her own beauty parlour”. K said to his father.

“Well she made good use of the money I gave to her. That was her first test, and she proved she was not a fool. She was able to open up her business. I could never be any less proud if such a woman was my daughter in-law. She is a willful woman. She is strong and will make a powerful wife to a powerful husband. She is bright. But if she is working for the opposition, then she is nothing but a bone stuck in the throat”. Governor Adewale said to his son. K told his father that he understand his point and he could vouch with his life that Lanre does not work for the opposition.

“Let us hope so!” Governor Adewale said after K told him he could vouch with his life that Lanre does not work for the opposition. K wanted to leave in a hurry but his father asked him to stay back and eat dinner with them. The two of them walked out of the father’s study. They found their way down to the dinning room.

“Kehinde, you are staying with us today”. Olasile said to her son when she saw him seated at the dinning table. K told her he was not staying with them. He only accepted his father’s offer to stay back and have dinner with them.

“Kehinde, don’t you think you are doing too much? You are not married but you won’t stay home with us. If I had known you would do this, I would not have let your father give you access to that house yet”. Olasile said to her son. K told her that that still would not have stop him from moving out.

“Please tell the maids to pack food for Lanre. I don’t want her starving with my baby in her womb”. K blunted out.

“Kehinde are you mad or something? Lanre or Ify? Which one are you going for?” Olasile asked K. He told her that she heard him right and should stop with the unnecessary questions.

“Are you being rude to me because of a woman? She did not carry you in her stomach for nine months, I did. And whether it is Lanre or Ify, I don’t care to know. Just know you are not marry an Igbo girl or anyone from a poor background no matter her intelligent she is”. Olasile said to K.
