Chapter 10: Lost Children

Cut the juicy steak as he places it in his mouth; the meat dissolves like butter as he chews it. Pair it with a glass of wine red wine; it is like heaven in mouth. Agnes watches the town street across the window as he eats. Even in winter, the town still packs with people.

A sister and a brother; Agnes watch the pair of siblings as they attract him the most. Walk with barely any protection from the cold weather, it struck sympathy in somebody's heart who sees it. It is not uncommon occurrence to see children being abandoned at an early age. And this pair of siblings may be likely. But it is not because of sympathy that Agnes is attracted to these children.

Born with a lack of empathy, he doesn't even care if the two siblings die. There is something particular about these siblings that makes him attracted to them. Their souls are two times larger than any typical soul. Their souls are as big, bright, and vigorous as the soul of Veronica before him. Truly incredible.

He thought he will found his answer in Vetican, but who could have guessed that the answer would come to his doorstep? He went to this town to study the movement of the soul as to how it reacts to different emotions, at the same time, examine his territory. But instead, he is given an answer to one of his many questions.

"Fetch me those two kids by the alley."

"There are no kids there, Sir?! Are you hallucinating again, Sir? Do I need to call Sebas over?"

"Huh? No, there is no need to call him over. I may suffer from minor illusions. Nothing to worry about. Finish your meal."

Sips his wine as he continues watches the two children; after a while, he can't help but frown a little. How can there be no children there? He can clearly see them. Rubs his temple as he closes his eyes, thinking, why can't Veronica see them; Agnes observes the people around the two children.

No matter how much the children cry for help, the people around them seem like they can't hear them, and that is strange. Their expression is not that annoyed or to avoid, but it seems they genuinely can't hear or see them. Interested, Agnes once again diverted his gaze to the two children.

Are they perhaps spirit? He doesn't know. But as the saying of old, if one shy to ask, they will lose the way. The best way to learn something is by simply asking. It is not that hard.

Asks Veronica to pay for the meal when they finished eating; Agnes did not wait for her as he headed straight to the two children after he wore his coat and glove back. Look at the people and the two children up close; they are, indeed, can't see them.

When he arrives at the alley, the people around him all smile at him as they go their way. In this town, no people did not recognize him. From status as high as the mayor to someone with no status, all of them know him.

To them, he is a rich man who helps build their town. In merely three years' time, he solves almost all of this town's problems. That is the reason most people respect him and treat him with such high regard in this town. The prime example is the restaurant manager. He doesn't know that he is a mob. He just thinks he is concerned about his shop.

Only selective people knew who he was, such as the mayor, the chief of police, the fire chief, or, in short, all of the most influential people in this town knew his real identity.

Look at the two children that no one else but he can see; he asks them a question as he crouches down.

"Are the two of you lost?"

"You can see us, big brother?" Ask the little girl, sobbing, as she stares into Agnes's golden eyes.

"Yes, I can see you. Why I can't see you?"

"Uhmm..."

"Why don't the two of you follow, big brother, back home? It's a warm place with plenty of food to eat."

"Is that so, big brother?!"

"Yes, there are also warm water and plenty of cloth."

"I want to go, but our mother is sick, and she said we should not follow a stranger."

"Oh, how rude of me. My name is Agnes, and what is yours?"

"Ahh, my name is Emy, and this is my brother, Jeremy."

"Emy and Jeremy, what a lovely name. Why don't the two of you take me to your mother first and follow big brother home? I may be able to help her."

"Yes! Follow me, big brother!"

Looking at the two excited children running to know where. The smile on his face disappeared like it never appeared. Fish out his phone and call Veronica; he tells her to went back to the palace first.

"That would be dangerous, Sir! I can't let you wander around the street without protection. There might be someone who wants to assassinate you."

"Worry not. This is my town. No one stupid enough to do that."

"Precisely because of that, it is dangerous. I will come to you right away. Sir? Sir!?"

Ends the call, Agnes then follows the two kids into the slum. Look at the place; Agnes still remembers it used to be packed with homeless. But now, after he develops this town, the homeless people are hard to see. Yet no matter great one is and how much money one has, the problem is still there. But if it compares to before, it is much better.

Look at the homeless people gathering at one place, drunks with trash surrounds them; Agnes nods at them and gave them a smile. If someone asks him money for help, he hands them, each a hundred Sol. It is not a matter of principle to treat humans equally but merely business.

To be loved and respected by all, he must show kindness to all. No matter what their status in society. As with the respect he receives from the homeless, lower class, middle class, and the upper class, he will gain the power of right. The power to declare who will be the next mayor of this town without even resorting to dirty means. The power that envies by all.

"Big brother, hurry up. Our house is just around the corner."
