Losing Control

Melina stared out the window, enjoying the tranquility of Ms. Grayson's classroom. A few days had passed since her dramatic first day of school and she had quickly adjusted to her new classes and the supernatural things that happened on a daily basis at the school.

Watching as students enter the school premises, Melina spotted Alice making her way to the school building and smiled. The two girls had become close even though their personalities were quite different.

The classroom is going to become rowdy once Alice gets here, Melina thought to herself. Everyone seems to come to class after she does.

Melina turned back to look at the quiet classroom, only a few students inside, sitting at their desks or quietly chatting with one another. There was even someone sleeping on their desk across from where she was sitting.

She looked back down at the book she had gotten from the library, picking it up to read again, when a white hand pushed it down. Melina looked up to see two girls with black blazers standing in front of her.

They were glaring at her, their eyes going slightly red and their mouths pulled into a mean snarl, showing their fangs. They were pretty looking, one having blond hair and the other ginger, but a dark aura destroyed that beauty.

"Can I help you?" Melina asked, pulling her book out of the one girl's hand.

"You can." The other girl, the one with the ginger hair, snarled. "Keep your hands away from Michael, devil spawn."

Melina felt confused for a second, thinking, Did these girls just step out of a bad teen romance?

"You listening?!" The blond haired one asked, grabbing Melina's collar.

Something snapped in Melina, awakening an emotion she never knew she had inside her. Tilting her head to the side, she smirked as she grabbed the girl's hand, squeezing it tightly.

"Don't worry. I heard you loud and clear." Melina smiled as the blond haired girl cried out in pain, delighting Melina for some weird reason. Letting go, she continued, "My issue is that you too dared to speak in my presence, even going as far as to touch me and my belongings. You have no right to tell me what I can and can't do!"

"Dumb b*tch!" The ginger haired girl snarled, raising clawed hands at Melina.

A hand shot out, grabbing the ginger's wrist, stopping her from attacking Melina. Melina turned to see Alice standing there, her eyes glowing red.

"Get out of here before I rip you two up into pieces and burn you!" Alice growled as bull horns and fiery dragon-like wings appeared.

Both girls paled with fear, running off as soon as Alice let go of the ginger girl's hand. Turning to look at Melina, Alice smiled, her scary aura softening.

"Can I?" Alice asked gently.

Melina nodded, somehow knowing what Alice was asking. Alice smiled, placing the tips of her fingers on Melina's lips.

Taking a breath, Alice closed her eyes and reopened them, her demon form disappearing as she did so. Melina felt a wave of calmness wash over her, finally able to understand what she had just done.

Blushing in embarrassment, she looked at Alice in shock. "Did I just lose control?"

"Yeah. Seems like your pride took over and started influencing you." Alice responded, taking the seat next to her. "Thankfully, the only emotion it was affecting was your anger and I could intervene, otherwise those two girls would have been dead. When did you manifest?"

"Two weeks ago." Melina murmured.

Alice looked at her with surprise. "Two weeks. Damn, you have a lot more control than I did. I caused so much rubbish."

"What in Satan's name happened here?!" A voice called out before Melina could respond.

Melina looked to see Antonio walking up them, a look of shock on his face. "Did Melina just murder someone?"

"No. Some girls just got taught a lesson." Alice muttered, rolling her eyes. She looked at Melina, suddenly realizing something. "Crap Melina, you're still in your demon form."

"Huh?" Melina felt her head, feeling horns tangling with her hair. Moving her shoulder blades, she felt her wings and realized Alice was right.

Taking a breath, she allowed herself to calm down and transformed back into her human form. Looking into the window, she saw her horns had messed up her hair bun, knotting it everywhere.

"Let me fix it." Alice said. "We don't have time to go to the bathroom."

"Okay." Melina responded, handing Alice a hairbrush she kept in bag. "Can you make a bun please?"

"Sure." Alice took the hairbrush, carefully untangling Melina's hair.

"So, can I ask what the fight was about?" Antonio asked, taking a seat in front of the girls.

"They wanted me to stay away from Michael etc." Melina replied, slowly recalling what had happened. "They touched me and I…um…lost it."

Antonio smirked. "Remind me never to touch you when angry."

"Damn purists." Alice muttered. "Always causing some sh*t."

"Purists?" Melina questioned, confused.

"Ah… you've probably never come across them seeing as you went to human public school." Antonio exclaimed. "They're basically beings that believe species should keep to themselves and inter species relationships shouldn't exist. Something about keeping the bloodlines pure thus the name purists."

"Those girls probably came after you because they thought you and Michael were together or something." Alice added.

"Oh…but we're not dating I mean." Melina frowned.

"True but they don't know that and were most likely scared by your presence seeing as demon girls are more superior to vampire girls. Both in beauty and brawn." Alice joked, finishing up the bun.

"Brains is debatable. Like you have but Alice and clearly those vampire girls don't." Antonio teased.

"Be glad this hairbrush is not mine, Antonio." Alice muttered, handing Melina her hairbrush before sitting back down.

Melina laughed at the cousins, her embarrassment of what happened earlier slowly fading away. Taking the brush, she packed it back into her bag, deciding to change the subject slightly before Alice did find something to throw at Antonio.

"So, are inter species relationships common then?" Melina asked curiously.

"Pretty much." Alice answered. "At first it was mostly because there were those that wanted to see if mixed species would make a being more powerful but soon everyone realized the child would inherit only one ability, usually the stronger power."

"Like if a demon and vampire had a child, their child would get their demon parent's abilities." Antonio added.

"Of course, there are cases where the child got the weaker power, but that's quite rare." Alice concluded just as the first school bell rang. Alice smirked at Melina. "Looks like our lecture ends here."

Students, those that hadn't made their way to the classroom yet, entered with some of them taking their seats right away while others went over to friends to greet them or chat with them. Some of the other people from Antonio and Alice's friends group came over to greet the cousins, some politely greeting Melina too.

She wasn't as close to the others as she was to the cousins, so she didn't really mind being ignored by the others. Eventually, she would talk to them and greet them like friends but for now she was okay with not doing that.

It made things a little less awkward for her…

Shaking her head to get rid of the unnecessary thoughts, Melina picked up her book again and began reading it until the late bell rang.

Placing the book down, Melina looked up expecting to see Ms. Grayson walk through the door like usual, however someone different came through the door. He was a short, burly man with golden eyes and a crooked nose. He had a huge mole on his chin and his skin was yellow, almost green looking.

"Oh sh*t…" Alice murmured besides Melina. "We're doing training today. And the goblin is in charge of our class out of all things…"

The rest of the class too was quietly panicking, the man smiling at the sight of the students getting upset. Melina, meanwhile, was confused at what was going on.

The man quickly took roll call, making sure everyone was there before handing the register to the class president.

"Here we go…" Alice continued grumbling. "We had to have Mr. Ken out of all the damn teachers…"

"Alright class. You've got training today so quickly get changed into your exercising outfits and meet me at the gym in ten minutes." He then paused for a minute before adding, "And those that decide to ditch or are even a second late. Well, I'm sure you all know what happens."

With those last words, he excited the class, leaving the students to groan and grumble about training day. Melina turned to Alice wanting to ask what training day was about and why everyone was so upset about doing it when Alice grabbed her, dragging her to the changing rooms.

Once inside, Alice opened one of the many lockers inside, pulling out an exercising outfit and indicated for Melina to follow suit. The two changed with much speed before heading to the gym along with other students.

Opening the wooden double doors, Alice smiled coldly. "Get ready for hell."
