Chapter 2: Situation

Jack moved through the brick hallway unobstructed. The hallway had no lighting, but this didn't bother Jack. Dark elves could see perfectly well in the darkness, although their vision in the dark lacked vibrancy.

On either side of the hallway were arched wooden doors, leading to various rooms, exits, or traps.

Jack eventually stopped at the sixth door to the left. He pushed it open, and entered the room.

It was a medium size room with a single-person bed tucked to the left side of the room, beside the bed was a small wooden bedside table, and to the end of the room was a large wooden wardrobe.

The room had no windows, but the ceiling and three of the four corners of the room had a few air vents installed. Just like the hallway, the room was unlit.

After taking a seat on the bed, Jack began to analyze his situation, [Although I should be dead, I have somehow managed to transmigrate into another world…

[Could my transmigration have something to do with the abyss that swallowed me? Also, why did I get transmigrated into this kid's body?] Jack furrowed as he pondered.

[Other than his identity, I don't see anything special about this kid. Or does the forest he died in have something to do with it? I'll have to investigate that later.] Jack soon recalled the information he received from Zaos' memories and he furrowed even deeper.

[With the number of enemies the Qildor clan has, it's difficult to pinpoint the culprit behind the murder of Zaos' parents. The timing of the attack is also suspicious.] Jack stroked his chin while in thought.

[*Sigh*, and the stunt this kid pulled at the Sacred Academy earlier. The church's reaction to that is left to be seen,] the final exam of the sacred academy was a tournament-type event held by the Church, the examinees would compete in different activities and would be ranked according to their scores.

Zaos was one of the top scorers and was eligible to graduate. He was meant to meet with the bishop of the church and would be conferred his title as a holy knight, but when he heard the news about his parents, Zaos immediately abandoned the ceremony and left to verify the situation.

Although his reasoning could be understood, this could also be seen as a form of disrespect to the bishop. Jack speculated that Zaos might have already been banished from the church.

[*Sigh* It's best to lay low for now. I can gather information after some time has passed...] Jack massaged his temples in frustration.

[There is also this… ] he stretches out his hand and closes his eyes, and after sitting in silence for five minutes, a purple-black orb slowly gathers in his palms.

[The void element… ] Jack opened his eyes and gazed at the mysterious orb with a complicated expression.

[The dark elves' elemental affinity is the darkness element, yet, why is mine the void element? Is it because I'm not a dark elf? Or is this a special trait I got from transmigration?] Jack touched the orb hovering above his palm and got a feel of the chilling but strangely comforting emptiness it radiated.

He recalled from Zaos' memories that the elven species were a species with elemental affinities and abilities. There were six elven races, namely the fire elves, the water elves, the wind elves, the earth elves, the light elves, and the dark elves.

Each elven race had different elemental affinities, as could easily be deduced by their races' names.

A situation where an elf possessed an elemental affinity outside the mainstream six was unheard of.

[The mysteries surrounding my rebirth into this world keep getting larger.] Jack sighed and canceled the void orb he had created.

[Either way, this world is better than my home world. As long as I can increase my strength, no one can limit me!] Jack's eyes burned with determination.

[My knowledge of this world's power system is still lacking. Other than the holy knight training this kid went through, he knows next to nothing. Hmmm… There should be a library in this hideout containing some of the Qildor clan's records. There should be some info there… ] Jack arose from the bed, and headed to the library.

Elsewhere, in a secluded corner of the woods, a man stood waiting.

The man had fierce red hair, toned skin, and a pair of long ears. His burrows were currently furrowed while his orange-colored eyes scanned his surroundings warily.

"Hello, Mr. Vundin." An ethereal voice sounded from behind the man which momentarily startled him.

"Tsk, Shadow. What took you so long? I have been here for almost an hour!" The man turned and addressed the individual who spoke earlier.

The one known as Shadow was an individual clothed in a full black assassin outfit that obscured his appearance leaving only his green eyes visible.

"I had to make sure you weren't followed," Shadow answered calmly.

He clasped his hands behind his back and asked, "Alright. So was your mission completed?"

"Of course! The house and the inhabitants were reduced to ash by my crimson flames before they could even react!" Vundin scoffed as he puffed out his chest.

Shadow nodded and said, "The target's deaths have been confirmed. You did a good job."

"Tsk. Cut the crap, when do I receive my reward?" Vundin snorted while crossing his arms around his chest.

Shadow smiled and replied softly, "Right now… "

Before Vundin could react, Shadow had vanished from his line of sight, and a sharp pain spread through his neck.

"Huh?" Vundin clenched his neck and feeling the constant stream of blood escaping through his fingers, his vision blurs, and with a thud, he dropped dead to the ground.

Shadow reappeared standing over Vundin's body.

"Get rid of the body and spread rumors of him being the killer of the Qildor clan's members." Promptly after Shadow finished speaking, several figures also dressed in black appeared and took Vundin's corpse with them.

In less than a minute, both Shadow and the figures had all disappeared from the scene, with no traces of their presence being left behind.
