The Forgotten Uchiha

Author Note: The number of times I had to resist writing to her instead of he because of Haku is insane. I just want to turn Haku in to a girl so bad I don't know why...

"So as long as you keep replenishing our bodies every day we won't fade?" Haku looked down at his hand holding up to the sun and observed it closely. "Ya and lucky for you my Reishi regenerates faster than you guys lose by existing." Although Haku was the more talkative compared to Zabuza he was also extremely considerate.

Too considerate actually now that he and Zabuza are officially working under Rei. "If you don't mind me asking why we are heading this way." Hearing Haku's question Rei sighed before saying something. "The closest soul to this place is in this direction though I don't its exact location."

Thinking to himself he looked at Zabuza. "If I remember correctly that's the same direction as our mission to the Land of Wind right?" Seeing Haku was knowledgeable about the landscape to a degree, Rei asked him to tell him what else was in that direction. "Well considering this is the main road there is one city between us and their borders. Oh and the Naka River."

'Hmm, so it might be someone from the Hidden Sand. It would be good to leave the Land of Fire for once. Everything I've been through has centered around the things in the Leaf which is a slight issue. Once I have the Soul Society set up it'll give me the chance to deal with people like Danzo once and for all.'

Nodding to himself Rei asked Haku a question. "You mentioned the Naka River, how long will it take us to get to it?" Haku lowered his head as he thought about it for a moment. "Hmm… I don't know exactly where we are on the main road but if I had to guess... I would say about two days if we pick up the pace."

Doing a quick bit of math in his head Rei started subtracting time from his original two-month deadline. "Alright, then we'll keep going till we reach the Naka River and take a break there. Hopefully from that point, we won't have to travel much farther." The fact he couldn't know exactly the distance of the souls from their original direction was a bit of an issue since time was of the essence.

However, even Rei didn't know how much of a motherload he had struck. After picking up their speed while continuing to follow the main road the next two days were quiet. Other than Rei getting to know Zabuza and Haku better and the information around their deaths he didn't dig too deep.

And because of that by the time they reached Naka River the three of them had grown a lot more comfortable around one another. Especially since Zabuza and Haku realized once they returned to the Soul Society they would almost be immortal. "I never thought of it like that but I guess you two would technically be immortal since I could bring you back."

Walking out of the forestry the three of them came upon a riverbank with the other side being identical except for one thing. Replacing the forest on the other side of the bank was an extremely tall cliff. The sight of the landscape cut off their conversation as Rei took a look around. "Wow, so this river stretches all the back to the Hidden Leaf?"

Haku nodded as Zabuza who had already sat down leaned back against a tree. "Tired from a two-day journey Zabuza?" Rei looked over at him and asked with a smirk on his face. In response, Zabuza opened his eyes slightly. "Even dead I don't get to rest? You're making this more like hell every day."

Shaking his head Rei stopped messing with Zabuza as he got a lay of the area. "Let's stay here for the night and then keep moving. I'm sure you guys don't mind sleeping outside so just keep your guards up." Haku who checked the area around the river bank nodded towards Rei as Zabuza remained motionless.

'I have no idea how those two got along. Even more so on how they ended up losing to a single Jonin and three kids.' Glancing back at the extremely tall cliff face Rei slowly glanced at the top of it. 'I could probably get a good view up there before the sun goes down.' Taking a moment to think to himself Rei jumped across the river and landed on the other bank.

Getting close to the cliff face he put his hand against the rocky wall and looked straight up. Taking his hand back Rei slowly bent down before applying all the force he could to his legs. In one big expanse, he jumped into the air causing the ground under him to crack slightly as the river just a few meters away rippled.

"What the…" Zabuza opened his eyes only to catch a glimpse of Rei jumping up into the air. Scaling into the air Rei saw as he was slowly nearing the top of the cliff but also realized he was slowly slowing down. 'Crap not gonna make it all the way up.' As his momentum began to slow to a crawl he almost began to fall down again but his body reacted first.

Even though he wasn't standing on anything his body used Flash Step as if there was and surprisingly Rei suddenly felt as if he was standing on something. He couldn't explain it but before he knew what had happened he managed to leap second-time mid-air rocketing him to the top of the cliff and landing safely at the edge.

Having his eyes wide open in disbelief Rei looked back behind him over the edge of the cliff. "What… Did- How the hell did that work?" He used Flash Step out of sheer instinct and his body's reaction to falling from that high of a height. But to his surprise, it basically gave him the ability to restabilize and move in the air.

"Well, that's something worth looking into." Having a better view of everything Rei began observing the plateau. They were still quite far up the river and farther up he could see the river banks completely disappeared. Along with that, there was a massive waterfall just a mile away. 'Wait for a second…'

Peering closer in the same direction of the waterfall Rei saw something strange. 'Is someone else up here?' Using Flash Step, Rei raced across the flat towards him and spotted the figure while having his guard raised. And as he got closer he realized exactly what he had spotted and it shocked me. "That can't be right."

Sitting on the ground in a relaxed form a glowing white being just like Zabuza and Haku's souls was just sitting there. 'What's a soul doing all the way up here? And how come I didn't detect it earlier. I could have sworn it was east.' It was a strange encounter but at the same time lucky. From his current distance, he could tell the soul was close to fully dissolving however even then it was slowly.

'I wonder who they were when they were alive.' Getting up closer Rei tilted his head side to side. To look so calm and at peace as a soul to be sitting down like that Rei's intrigue was only rising with every passing second. "I guess I really don't have any self-control." Sighing at himself Rei held out his hand and gathered a large amount of Reishi more than he did for both Zabuza and Haku combined.

Moving his hand he released out in front of him like a wave. Wrapping around the soul Rei took a step back as it surprisingly began to shrink. Coming to around the same height as himself Rei watched the soul take shape before the details began falling in. With it becoming fully nontransparent the soul was a boy with short shaggy dark hair.

Wearing a normal-looking outfit the only thing Rei could notice was the sword strapped to his back. "Rhm…" In what sounded like a grunt Rei saw the boy slowly open his eyes as he slowly shook his head. "What… What's going on?" Touching his face the boy seemed confused as well as Rei.

He knew souls had a brief moment of confusion when they were brought back to sentience but he didn't expect him to suddenly start checking his face. "My eyes are still there?" Almost mumbling Rei heard the boy say that as he slowly stood up. It was at that point that Rei decided to introduce himself.

"Um hello?" The boy just noticed Rei's presence and almost immediately drew the sword on his back. Rei was slightly shocked as the boy aimed directly for his throat with the intent to kill. Raising his hand he coated it in a thick layer of Reiryoku before using the side of his palm as a shield. Immediately the blade stopped as if it had hit a solid object causing the boy to seem shocked.

"All I did was say hi no need to kill me." The blade quivered slightly as he realized exactly what he was doing and retracted his attack. "Oh wait I'm sorry. You just mentioned your name right?" A sudden shift in tone made Rei even more interested in what exactly was going on as he repeated his name.

"Well, the person you just tried to kill is Rei. Mind telling me who you are for reference?" Hearing Rei tries to make a dumb joke the boy who had a neutral look on his face smiled slightly with a chuckle.

"Right sorry, Rei I'm just confused. My name is Shisui, Shisui Uchiha." Having a name to the face Rei's memory knocked him back to the Chunin exams just like with the 'Great Naruto Bridge'. "Shisui Uchiha? Just like that guy named uhh… Sasuke?" Hearing that name Shisui showed a more friendly expression.

"Sasuke do you know him?" Rei shook his head to the question as he replied. "Not really just met him once but he left an impression. He probably looks different than when you last saw him especially with how much time has probably passed since your own." With that statement, Shisui recalled the strangeness of the situation and Rei having gone through this began explaining.

"While I can only guess it's probably been over five years since you died. I only just brought you back in a sense at least to the point of sentience. You still don't technically have a body though you can interact with things." Rei began going through everything about the revival in a sense to the point Shisui could understand.

"Oh… I see that explains why I still have my eyes since it was around my best state." Trying to wrap his head around it all Shisui glanced up at Rei with a strange look. "So I'm guessing you didn't do this just to talk to me right? I doubt a Jutsu like this doesn't have some kind of price so what do you want?"

Rei was about to open his mouth but stopped himself, not even getting into the 'Not Jutsu' side of things. "Well, you are right about one thing. I didn't revive you out of the kindness of my heart. I have another plan in mind to deal with that." Knowing it already, Shisui didn't say anything as he listened.

"Honestly you're a lot more reasonable than the last two souls I brought back. But in any case, I have two goals in total. The first being to bring back different souls powerful enough to stand through the passage of time. If they are then I bring them back and ask them to join me and a sort of team I'm forming." Shisui narrowed his eyes as he asked Rei a question.

"I see I can understand the team part but why would you be bringing back ninja in the first place? You don't seem like the type of person interested in just abusing their power for no reason." Rei nodded graciously with a smile on his face.

"You're a good judge of character. And that leads to my second goal. I'm building a type of afterlife in this world. A place for souls to go after they die and can live in peace. However, a place like that needs protectors and people to run it properly." Shisui showed an understanding as Rei paused for a moment.

"In any case, before you even make a decision it would be best to get off this cliff. As fun as it is up here, I can't leave those two alone for too long and risk them running away."

Taking this moment to get your thoughts. What do you guys want to do with Shusui? Also hope you enjoyed this chapter!
