The Bite

The wind is picking up slightly, a whisper of a storm threatening in the late afternoon air.

The air is unsettling.

Someone's here.

"Who's there!?" My voice holds fear.

Female.

Short, cropped Red hair

Sparkling blue eyes

Hanging Upside down

"Hi...I'm Leto." She smiled, with all her teeth.

***

"I spend most nights falling in love with the idea of you."- Unknown

Words escaped me.

I stared into those bright blue eyes burning with anger and irritation, and my heart fell silent.

Mate.

My mate was sitting on my bed, in my room. And for some reason, angry with me.

So many questions rushed into my head, but I pushed them aside holding my breath. Waiting for any reaction from him first.

The earthy smell of cool rain and an outlandish aroma of charcoal flames and cinnamon filled the room.

It was intoxicating.

My body tingled and spine curled.

Power and prestige flowed off him in waves, surrounding my airspace, whispering the difference in power to my skin.

Alpha

It was an easy tell.

His entire presence was domineering.

If I was any regular wolf my eyes would have dropped to the ground, but my gifts make it easy for me to hold the eyes of power. A habit that has gotten me into trouble more times than I could count.

His eyes seemed to have lost their anger, just a look of mild irritation remained.

Slowly, He rose from the edge of the bed and started to stalk towards me.

I squashed the urge to step back, like a prey being cornered as his eyes bored into mine, searching for something.

He paused right in front of me. He was well above 6 feet as opposed to my 5'6 figure. I feel the touch of his fingers beneath my chin radiating a light warmth against my skin.

It's odd at first, and I try to pull away though he holds me in place easily. His fingers tighten on my chin as he forces my gaze upwards. It was sheer will that had me fighting not to jolt at the unexpected punch of raw desire as his blue orbs connected with my amber and green ones up close.

I could barely make out his features, just his dark long hair shading his left eye partially from view. His eyes glittered again, whether with amusement or anger, I couldn't be sure.

I could feel his scent intertwining with mine.

Literally

He dropped his hand abruptly and turned towards the door. My body crying out, already mourning the loss of skin.

For one humming minute, the room was silent, him staring at the door and me staring at his back. I nearly jumped when he broke the silence.

"Your name?"

His voiced caressed me like a lovers touch, pulsing through me and melting over my skin.

"Selene." I breathed softly.

He turned to face me and this time his face held no negative emotion.

"Where were you Selene? "

By the moon.

His eyes held something akin to a possessive hunger.

I was glad the darkness shielded my fierce blush.

The stories did no justice to the reality.

The bond was almost like a living, breathing aura that moved in between us, pulling and pushing.

He seemed to disregard my lack of response.

"Its late. Get some sleep, we have a long day ahead of us tomorrow."

His voice broke me out of my reverie, before he left.

Leaving a thick air of pheromones behind.

His pheromones were enough to drive me into an early heat,

I look over to the side of my room that held my suitcases and smiled.

I moved over to the bed, picked up my phone and called lettie.

The crowd wasn't as huge as I had first imagined.

Only a handful of alphas showed up and it seems just one of them found his match.

Excluding me though

I was standing at the corner of the pack house entrance.

My eyes skim round the crowd of wolves, as I searched for him.

My Alpha

I wonder what territory he's under.

Werewolves have 4 territories; the North, South, east and west. Each governed by King Alphas and then Alphas below them.

Our Alpha was under the lord(king)Alpha of the South.

I've heard little to nothing about the other territories, so I was skeptical about going there but it would be better than staying in the south. Within reach of this horrible place.

What if he was also an Alpha of the south...

I shiver at the thought, and just as I focus my eyes I spot him.

The dark really diminished most of his features.

I could see him more clearly now...and Goddess help me

He looked like human royalty.

His hair although long, was well groomed, eyebrows trimmed.

His eyes were a mesmerizing deep ocean blue. His face was strong and defined and his features looked like they were molded from granite.

He locked eyes with me and I stumbled a bit.

It was all I could do, to prevent falling as a gush of air escaped me.

He was gorgeous.

The crowd seemed to part as he made a direct beeline for me.

I ignored the eyes that came with being the sudden centre of attention.

A fierce blush engulfed my cheeks as the stares around me grew more intense.

I blamed it on the heat.

He was directly infront of me now. His earthy scent already encasing me.

"Say your goodbyes and come to me,"

His tone held no room for argument so I simply nodded my head.

With this he turned and headed towards his betas.

Their eyes threatened to pry me open but I paid no mind and headed inside instead.

I stalled inside a bit, because some insecure part of me didn't want him to know I had no love here.

There was no one here of any importance to me.

I half expected the Alpha's daughter, Beatrice and her band of misfits to come in and make fun of me like they usually do, but maybe after seeing me with my mate outside they decided to keep their distance.

The thought was beyond amusing.

He was surrounded by some other Alphas when I walked out.

I stand behind him, but I'm sure he's aware of my position.

The stage was set and the cermony was about to begin.

I spotted my Alpha with his luna standing silently beside Beatrice who for some reason seemed extremely irritated.

Now that i think about it most of the females in the ceremony all seemed to be upset also.

Instinctively my hand reached out and grabbed my mates shirt.

I released it as soon as i realized, but he might have taken that a sign of anxiety, as he walked onto the setup on the front stage.

His eyes called to me as he extended his hand.

Confusion clouded my mind.

The Alpha of the mating ceremony usually begins the ceremony by saying a few words before the first match.

Nevertheless, I walked onto the stage and place my hand in his. My eyes slid over to the alpha and his luna and this break in culture didn't seem to faze them one bit.

The ceremony had begun.

Amidst my confused thoughts I picked up the sacred sabre and drew blood from my palm as was customary just like my mate did.

His eyes weren't on me but on the delicately designed bowl between us.

We joined our bloody palms above the bowl and for just a moment a euphoric feeling washed over me.

It wasnt desire, but something more.

To seal our destiny, we had to mark each other.

Give each other 'the bite'

As was customary, the female went first.

He bent towards me, neck inviting and I let my fangs extend fully before marking him.

He held on to me as the feeling of being conjoined threathened to tip me over.

As I stood stable and drew myself away from him, my eyes followed the trail of blood left on his neck as it formed a beautiful structure.

It wasn't the usual mating mark and my confused thoughts grew.

My Alpha seemed unfazed, but I assumed it was because he couldn't see it.

It was his turn, but before I gave myself to him I cast a quick look towards the onlookers.

My pack members were the only ones filled with uneasy looks.

What's going on?

Before I could entertain a remotely reasonable explanation as to why some people seem to be uncomfortable with my mating ceremony, My mate had stepped forward impatiently and instead of the impassive look he's had on since the ceremony began, his face held pity, and potent emotion.

His fangs extended, and realization began to dawn.

This was no ordinary Alpha.

As his teeth sunk into my neck the fleeting pain turned into one of mind numbing pleasure.

I held onto him tight.

I gasped as his teeth retracted slowly from my neck.

He didn't wait for me to recover as he took my hand while we faced the crowd.

I wasn't shocked at their reaction this time.

Infact, it only proved to confirm my suspicions.

It was appropriate for them to be on their knees infront of royalty.

As my mark formed,

I look over at him, as he gazed at the crowd. the impassive, cold look back on his face.

The reality of the situation fully settling on me

I was just matched with a King.

A lord Alpha

I had just become a Queen.
