I half expected the jolt to the system but was still shocked by it. It was enough to stop me in my tracks. I felt like I was outside of myself, that it was another me experiencing this. Maybe it’s because of all the advice I’d been receiving in the last twenty-four hours, all the words and shared experiences from the guys that had me so aware of the nuances, but her lips tasted sweeter than any other.

I didn’t go deep, just brushed my lips lightly against hers, but she breathed just then, and I took her breath into my mouth. Something foreign stirred in my chest and went straight to my gut, and a feeling of such tender longing assailed me. I almost pulled back and away from her at the shock of it.
