"Why are you hitting yourself?" Fengyao caught Suyuxin's hand and inquired gently.
"I've been sleeping for so long, just trying to wake up," Suyuxin blinked her eyes innocently.
"It seems a bit challenging for you to wake up..." Fengyao smirked mischievously, leaning in to playfully brush his tongue against Suyuxin's earlobe.
Suyuxin recoiled as if struck by lightning.
"Are you awake now?" Fengyao's lips curved into a smile as he asked.
Blushing fiercely, Suyuxin cast an indignant glance at Fengyao.
The General is becoming increasingly roguish.
"If you're not awake yet..."
"I am awake." Suyuxin hastily interjected, fearing Fengyao might persist.
"Now that you're awake, let's go eat. You must be starving; you missed lunch," Fengyao held Suyuxin's hand, suggesting they leave.
Suyuxin rubbed her belly.
Despite missing lunch, lying in bed all day hadn't exactly burned many calories, so she wasn't particularly hungry.
As she pondered, a delightful aroma of grilled fish wafted through the air.
Instantly, her greedy stomach started rumbling loudly.
Suyuxin awkwardly covered her belly.
Oh no, the General has caught her several times already.
He must think she's a glutton.
"Can't resist the smell of fish, indeed a little gourmet kitten," Fengyao affectionately tweaked Suyuxin's nose.
"Our ancestors ordained three meals a day; missing one meal makes you hungry," Suyuxin huffed, her tone slightly spoiled, "If the General doesn't wish to indulge, then don't."
"Who said I don't want to indulge?" Fengyao couldn't resist a smile, then earnestly continued, "I plan to indulge for a lifetime. No, not just one lifetime, but for generations, forever and ever."
Hearing this, Suyuxin promptly wriggled out of Fengyao's grasp and hurriedly moved away.
Fengyao was taken aback and hastened after her.
Why did she run off just like that? Did he say something wrong?
But those were his heartfelt thoughts; he genuinely wanted to spend eternity with her.
Suyuxin ran to the desk and, tiptoeing, retrieved a set of Four Seasons Blossom paper, carefully selecting a sheet adorned with lilies. She then prepared the inkstone.
"If you want to write, shouldn't you eat dinner first? You'll need the strength after eating," Fengyao stood behind Suyuxin, suggesting.
"No, I must write now," Suyuxin quickly prepared the ink and chose a small wolf-hair brush, starting to write on the lily-adorned paper.
She had prepared golden ink, matching the lily paper, and her calligraphy, elegant and grandiose.
Fengyao stood by, observing her writing.
To his surprise, Suyuxin transcribed verbatim what he had just said about "forever and ever."
Every word, accurately inscribed.
After finishing, Suyuxin carefully dried the paper, then took out a seal ink and said, "Verbal promises are unreliable; let's make it official in writing."
Fengyao was somewhat amused.
They had sealed their promise with a pinky swear earlier, and now she wanted to put it into writing.
A bundle of childlike innocence.
Yet, he adored it.
"Alright." Fengyao nodded and imprinted his handprint directly onto the paper, also signing his name with a flourish.
Flowing and graceful.
A perfect match with Suyuxin's delicate calligraphy.
Suyuxin delicately dried the paper again, then found a mahogany box with a hanging lock and solemnly placed it inside.
"The General has officially endorsed it; you can't go back on this. Otherwise, I'll present this as evidence," Suyuxin raised her chin, adopting an arrogant demeanor.
"Fine, I won't go back on it," Fengyao took Suyuxin's hands, adopting a solemn expression, "I, Fengyao, solemnly swear before heaven to never let down Suyuxin. If I do, heaven strike..."
"Why make such a serious oath?" Suyuxin hurriedly covered Fengyao's mouth, "I trust you naturally."
"Don't worry. Every word I say comes from my heart, and I never intend to break them. There won't be any thunder or lightning striking," Fengyao pulled Suyuxin into his embrace, warmly smiling.
The two embraced each other until a mysterious rumble emanated from Suyuxin's stomach once more.
Annoyed, Suyuxin rubbed her belly.
The pleasant atmosphere had been disrupted.
Fengyao couldn't help but chuckle and suggested, "Let's go eat before it gets cold."
Xiamama had prepared grilled fish fillets, perfectly tantalizing in color, fragrance, and taste. Knowing Suyuxin liked spicy food, she had coated them generously with chili powder.
Bright red and appetizing.
Suyuxin's eyes immediately sparkled as she directly picked up a piece and popped it into her mouth.
Instantly, she squinted in delight.
Spicy and fresh, the crispy fish fillet was incredibly delicious.
Observing Suyuxin's blissful expression, Fengyao couldn't help but think of her as a greedy little kitten.
"General, have some too." Suyuxin picked up a piece for Fengyao.
Although Fengyao liked spicy food, he wasn't as fond of it as Suyuxin. Just looking at the thick layer of red made his mouth feel like it would spout flames.
But since the little girl had picked it for him, even if it was coated with poison, he would still eat it without hesitation.
He took a bite.
The intense spiciness immediately set his mouth on fire, causing Fengyao to cough incessantly.
Suyuxin hurriedly brought over some tea to soothe Fengyao's lips, regretting her playful act.
She knew Fengyao's taste and he couldn't handle spicy food like she could.
That's why Xiamama had prepared two fish fillets—one spicy and the other mildly seasoned.
After drinking half a cup of tea, Fengyao felt much better and picked up the fish fillet again.
"Don't eat it, General." Suyuxin leaned in, swiftly taking the fish fillet from Fengyao's chopsticks and instead gave him a piece of the mildly seasoned one.
After finishing her share of the fish fillet, Suyuxin tugged at Fengyao's sleeve, feeling a bit remorseful. "I was just kidding earlier, General. You're very magnanimous; please don't be angry."
"Silly girl, I wasn't angry at all," Fengyao ruffled Suyuxin's hair, saying, "Whatever you like, I will like too."
Touched, Suyuxin's eyes welled up with tears. "General always calls me a silly girl, but I think you're the silly one, always unconditionally spoiling me."
"You're talking nonsense again. You're
my wife; it's only natural that I spoil you," Fengyao searched all over but couldn't find a handkerchief, so he wiped Suyuxin's tears with his sleeve.
In fact, he'd never been in the habit of carrying a handkerchief from childhood to adulthood. It's just that Suyuxin's tears made him a little flustered, forgetting the habit.
He dreaded seeing her cry, whether happy or sad.
He wanted her to be by his side, forever smiling.
"Yeah, it's only natural. So, General, you must spoil me wholeheartedly, every day and every moment," Suyuxin wiped her tears on Fengyao's sleeve, then playfully rubbed her own oily lips.
Fengyao glanced at the oil stain on his sleeve and couldn't resist pinching Suyuxin's cheek, "You are indeed a naughty little kitten."
