Chapter 21: Fuming with Fury

Shortly after Feng Yao left, Su Yuxin woke up. Upon learning that Feng Yao had returned from the expedition, she had initially intended to make him a bowl of Yang Chun noodles. Perhaps due to nervousness and her lack of expertise, in the midst of her haste, she made a mistake. Accidentally, she knocked over the nearby oil jar, which Xia Granny had just filled that morning. The entire jar of oil spilled onto the stove. The fire was already burning in the stove, and when it met the oil, flames surged, rapidly spreading along the oil on the ground. Unluckily, there were dry firewood stacks and a basket of straw beside the stove, which Xia Granny had recently brought in. Within moments, they caught fire.

Su Yuxin was startled. She had never encountered such a situation before, lacking the basic knowledge needed at that moment. Instead of running, she initially thought about how to extinguish the fire. This brief delay allowed the fire to engulf half of the kitchen. As the kitchen contained several flammable materials, the blaze became uncontrollable. The kitchen's door was on the side of the stove, where the fire was raging, making it impossible for her to pass through.

Actually, today, Qingque and Ziyuan were supposed to accompany her to take inventory in the storeroom, keeping a record of all items. They were also supposed to settle how much Peach Hong had taken from her belongings. Mrs. Luo was meant to guide the two of them. After all, Mrs. Luo had broad experience and knowledge.

Due to the limited broth, Xia Granny went outside to kill a chicken. The other kitchen staff felt uneasy because of Su Yuxin and left for elsewhere. So, at that moment, Su Yuxin was alone in the kitchen, without anyone to offer advice.

Despite having experienced life and death before, Su Yuxin was terrified at that moment. Xia Granny had just finished bleeding the chicken when she smelled a burning odor and, turning around, saw the kitchen ablaze. Frightened, Xia Granny abandoned the chicken and splashed herself with a bucket of cold water before rushing in. With great effort, she dragged Su Yuxin out. Su Yuxin chuckled at her own ineptness, having managed to set the kitchen on fire while cooking Yang Chun noodles.

"Madam, you've finally awakened," Mrs. Luo's eyes were swollen, her voice choked with emotion. Her tears hadn't stopped since Su Yuxin's accident.

"I'm fine," Su Yuxin spoke but felt a burning sensation in her throat, causing her to cough a couple of times. The pain intensified, wrinkling her face.

"Here, drink some water quickly," Mrs. Luo hurriedly handed Su Yuxin a glass of water.

As Su Yuxin reached out to take it, she realized she was holding something else. Lowering her gaze, she saw a neatly folded sheet of paper on the point of her fingertips. What's this? Puzzled, she unfolded it and instantly felt a surge of fury on her charming face. Ignoring the pain in her throat, she tightly gripped the divorce letter and gritted her teeth. "The General is back?"

What does he mean by this? He disappeared without a word and now, upon returning, writes a divorce letter. Even though she had previously contemplated separation from him and he had not agreed, now that he wants to part ways, there's no chance. She was going to cling to him for the rest of her life.

Mrs. Luo nodded, "The General was with you until just now; he left recently."

"I'm going to find him," Su Yuxin lifted the quilt, hastily put on outer clothing under Mrs. Luo's assistance, and dashed out without combing her hair or washing her face.

"Madam, you haven't combed your hair," Mrs. Luo called from behind.

Su Yuxin had already run far ahead. Her actions drew the attention of the servants along the way, but she paid no heed. She had to confront the General immediately. Upon learning that Feng Yao was currently in the study, Su Yuxin hurried there.

Feng Yao was listening to Zhou Zheng report on the incidents in the mansion over the past three days. Zhou Zheng had only just started when Su Yuxin stormed in, her face dark with fury.

"Leave us," Su Yuxin glared fiercely, commanding a presence.

Feng Yao nodded. Both Zhou Zheng and Jin Ling bowed and exited.

"Why did you come out? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?" Despite writing the divorce letter, Feng Yao couldn't help but express concern.

Approaching with an air of anger, Su Yuxin slammed the divorce letter on the table. "Did you write this?"

"Yes," Feng Yao nodded. "I've signed it. As long as you sign it too and submit it to the authorities, we will no longer be husband and wife."

"Why?" Su Yuxin glared at Feng Yao.

"Didn't you always want a divorce? Now that I've agreed, you no longer need to play with your life," Feng Yao lowered his eyes, concealing the pain and reluctance in them.

Su Yuxin was taken aback. Did he think the kitchen fire was her attempt to force a divorce?

Was he worried that if he didn't agree, she might resort to such extreme actions again and risk her life?

At that moment, Su Yuxin's fury diminished by half. It was all because of her reckless behavior in the past. But just a few days ago, hadn't she made up her mind to leave him? Her back had ached for two days due to that decision. Considering this, Su Yuxin's diminished fury surged back.

"Who said I want a divorce?" Su Yuxin retorted, clutching her waist, her face raised, still glaring at Feng Yao. "Let me tell you, I disagree."

"Disagree?" Feng Yao frowned, feeling a sudden shock in his heart.

"Absolutely disagree," Su Yuxin ripped the divorce letter into pieces, threw it on the ground, stomping on it repeatedly, and, still unsatisfied, ground her teeth, "I will never agree in this lifetime."

"Really?" Feng Yao clenched his fists, asking.

Hearing these words from Su Yuxin's mouth felt like a dream to him.

"Absolutely." Su Yuxin, lifting on tiptoes, directly hooked her hand around Feng Yao's neck, her tender lips pressing against his.

Su Yuxin was determined to express her resolution. She was putting everything on the line, hanging on Feng Yao like a koala. However, her kiss was hesitant, and she even accidentally bit Feng Yao's lips.

Feng Yao's desire surged instantly, overwhelming him like a giant wave. He had zero restraint when it came to her.

Feng Yao embraced Su Yuxin tightly, as if wanting to meld her into his very bones, taking the initiative and deepening the kiss.

After a long while, Feng Yao finally let go.

Su Yuxin immediately gasped for air, almost feeling like she had been suffocated just now.

Feng Yao looked earnestly at Su Yuxin and said, "Since you tore the divorce letter, there's no use regretting it now. I won't write a second one."

Su Yuxin continued to glare at Feng Yao. Did she not put enough effort just now?
