Chapter 8

After the service was over, he dragged her out of the place in a hurry; Lea not knowing what was happening was struggling and being frantic in his arms. People thought they were a couple looking for a daylight romance.

“What the hell are you doing!” she screamed at him “I don’t know who you are, or what you are doing. All my life I’ve never hurt anyone before. I demand you let me go now?” he was constantly checking his watch.

‘I hope he is not a kidnapper, dear God.’ She whisper prayed.

“No can do, at least not right now.” He finally answered.

“What do you mean? Who are you? What are you waiting for?”

“For someone who has been kidnapped, you talk way too much.” He smirked at her teasing her.

“I don’t believe I’ve been kidnapped. You haven’t still answered me.” She said smugly.

“Just wait, I’m doing this because I like you and you are a nice-…” he didn’t finish talking before gunshots were fired in the air, people running helter scatter while the unknown guy just used his back while I’m in front shielding me from any attack.

“What’s going on?” she yelled at him. “I don’t know. Just stop talking.” She stopped for awhile, the attack subsided down, before she could arrange herself to question the guy, he had already gone leaving her in a scared state.

That when it clicked.

“My mum”

She rushed back towards the cathedral with her phone in her hand dialing her mum’s number or Linda’s.

“Where are you guys?” she asked immediately her mum phone went after dialing about 20 times.

“We are safe, what about you? Did you come?” her mother asked hurriedly.

“Yes I came, but a bit away from the church. Thank God you are safe. Come outside, let’s meet at the gate.”

“Why? What happened? Everyone was chased to the safe house.” Linda cut in.

“I’ll explain when we meet.” She said finally before hanging off the phone. She continued searching around waiting for the guy to show up.

Mark and Jake went to Church today; he had been feeling uneasy since he had been rejecting the calls. The Church was high, having a ball gown shape with a pointer of ‘Cross’ at the top all white. As holy as it is, it’s were deal deadlier than weapons were carried out by them.

They entered noticing nothing suspicious, Jake sighted Lea, beckoning to one of his guard to follow and watch her.

It was as if planned, some guys entered at the same time, taking up vital positions and corner, immediately I saw Abel run out with Lea, I sighed knowing she’s safe.

Nobody knew what was going on except we who were in the business, like the time slowed; there was sudden shift in the air.

“We got to move… And now” Jake yelled.

“Why?” Mark asked. Without waiting time Jake hauled Mark and started making a move when smoke bombed pervaded the air and gunshots were fired. Everyone took to a run entering the Bishop’s safe house except them. They didn’t want to draw attention to the people since they were the main focus of their mission.

“Took this method to finally get to talk to you” Geo, one of their hit men replied laughing hoarsely.

“Well well, just get on to it.” Geo signaled to one of the face covered boys. He gave them a phone; they were reluctant to take it.

“Take it or you want to deny the boss again after taking this long trip.” Mark collected it.

“How are you doing, you made go all extreme to hear your voice, how nice of you.” The boss spoke.

“I was busy.” Mark answered in a clipped tone. He said “Put it on speakers, I wanna talk to you both.” As he said that the shooting continued to prevent people from coming near the surrounding.

“I have a job for you two; I want you two to transport something for me, actually for a client. Doesn’t have to be you directly”

“We are out.’ Mark continued “We only trafficked human and we have six months gap before another one takes place. We are off for now.”

“I know dear Mark; I made the contract with you. I know what’s in it. Listen, I am also the one you can decide if that contract is null or active. All I expect you to do is listen and be the busboy you are, okay?”

“Still not doing” Mark was adamant in not taking the job.

“I like your inflexible nature as much as I hate it, in times like this. Look left.” He ordered. There was a rifle gun pointed at both of them each.

“See that, it doesn’t take a second for it to blow up your brain into itty bitty teeny bitty smithereens. So do what I want, it will be a loss to lose someone like you. But… there will always be replacement”

“That’s why you won’t do it, you need me. I’m leaving. Take care of your mess.” Mark said finally leaving.

“Be careful Mark, don’t always overestimate yourself. Think about it and get back to me.” He said before they could leave finally.

“I may be shrewd but I too know what it means to lose someone. I do trafficking because there is a time limit for the girls, but apart from that I’m not doing anything else.”

‘Okay, heard you loud and clear.” The boss said laughing.

“Nice one Mark.” Geo said grinning.

“Halt”’ the shooting subsided and they took to their leave.

“Let’s get out of here too.” Mark said but Jake was rooted to the spot.

“What?’

“I’ve never heard you speak about them like this, it amazed me and touched me. I always thought you were so callous… I …I almost-”

“You won’t hear it again if we keep staying here and the police catch up with us. This isn’t the time or place for sentimentality.’

“Yeah, later” They both hurried out, Jake glancing sideways once in a while to see if Lea was nearby. They were out of the place before the people started coming out.
