Esme gasped after recalling the reasoning behind their betrothal. She stared at Einar and shook her head in disbelief of this romance that had blossomed between them. They never ended up fleeing; instead, she proposed marriage to her friend so he would fit in more with the village. Not only did it help her out of her situation with the Count, but somehow it did keep these witch hunters away.

Although Esmeralda was every ounce the human and was unaware of the world of creatures, she still had a keen sense of the supernatural and Einar's presence screamed it. She knew there was more to their world than what was before her, or she hoped to believe in it; otherwise, the world she lived in was very bleak. But the moment she met Einar, it confirmed her suspicions that there was more to the world than humans.
