Esme told Gabriel everything starting from Marcus running off after the Hellhounds at Einar's command to the hunters chasing after Aila Cross. Gabriel was surprised to hear Aila did not have any protection while on the run. But he relaxed after she told him about the shapeshifter and another werewolf. His curiosity piqued even more after he questioned her about her newly formed mark that looked more like a tattoo on her wrist.

"I'm Aila's shadow," Esme whispered while staring out at the street below. Gabriel was behind her, holding her to him as he smelled her freshly washed hair.
