telling the truth

The scream of the person echo's through the air, knowing I hit him I go closer, however the moment I do go closer I hear a shot ring out from one of the two men that is still standing. After I had ducked down into the snow, I look up to see that the second person had completely vanished, "shoot one of them got away." Under my breath I'm cursing myself for also not taking another shot, but fortunately we have one of them.

When I walk over to see who it is lucky for me it's not one of my trainees, eventhough at one point I had been suspecting one of them to be a spy, now I feel relieved to see that it isn't any of them. After I get him to his feet I see a bunch of armed soldiers coming my direction, "it's trainer Daniel, I've caught someone suspicious, help me out."

After they get over to me, they question my actions to fire, saying if it was necessary to severally injure a possible innocent person. "Well if you feel he's innocent, check for documents on his person, I know I saw him reach for them, but I don't think he was able to hand them over in time."

They rummage through the jacket of the person, fortunately there were some papers there. The unfortunate part is that it's only a quarter of the pages left, because the numbers on the pages remaining read fifty through seventy.

When they pick him up, he looks pale since he had lost a fair amount of blood as a result of my shot to his arm, "alright we have to get him medical treatment now, otherwise he'll die before he speaks!" While they carry him away I see all my trainees had also gather a bit of distance back, away from the main location, but they know it's me over here.

Once I'm cleared to go, I head over to my trainees, once there they start in with all the questions they had.

"What was that, and who was that you shot?"

"Why are you out here instead of being at the celebration party?"

Ah yes so many questions with so little time to answer all of them in-between, "will all of you guys save your questions, I will answer everything while we are at the part, if that is OK with all of you!"

After yelling that to all of them they all nod in agreement with what I had to say, hopefully they won't hate me for what I'm going to say to them at the part, but if they do it can't be helped.

When we all arrive back at the barracks where the celebration is being held, we all sit down and have food. The food is good, but I can feel all of them eying me, like I had done something immensely wrong. "Alright everyone you all want to know why I wasn't here, and instead find me with a rifle next to a person that I had shot?"

They all gather around to listen to what I had to say, hopefully they don't take it the wrong way, but I won't blame them if they do. After the whole story is spilled to them some of them are a bit shocked, while some are disappointed.

"Hey instructor Daniel, do you think any of us here are suspicious?" That question said by Jake leaves me thinking, that instead of suspecting them all, or even suspecting some of them I should just fully trust that they aren't doing anything wrong.

"Honestly, I had suspected some of you, but I see that won't get me anywhere, instead let's everyone here do our best together to keep up and help one another." They are all proud, that is until, "also if your not being promoted, why are we holding a celebration?"

They all stare at me, knowing that I am the root cause of this, so I come up with something, "how about this instead of a promotion party, it's a congratulations party for everyone here for all your guys hard work over the past few weeks, sound good to everyone!?" They get behind the idea, and before I knew it the whole thing had ended an hour later, with everyone heading back to there own lodging for the night.

Once I'm outside I feel the cold air in my face, knowing now that they know the situation, I hope they all understand at least a little bit. After I make it half way I hear foot steps coming up behind me, I turn around to see Siler standing there, "need somthing Siler?" The silence is only interrupted by the light blow of the cold wind every so often, until he begins to open his mouth a bit.

"So instructor Daniel, when you said you didn't trust any of us, did you actually mean it?" Shocked at what he said, I had only really suspected a few people, but in reality my mind probably did suspecting a lot more of them.

"The truth is Siler, that I had not suspected you or in that matter a lot of you, it was actually only a few people in the group that had suspected, but in the back of my head I feel that yes all of you could have been doing this."

The answer I gave was straight forward, as he shrugs, "well that's reasonable enough, but instructor Daniel with all of us in your training program I believe you could trust us all, remember you sent us through hell the first week we arrived here."

Thinking about it sure it seems stupid to think that a single test could prove loyalty, but as ithink about it he might be right, because only a true fighter would be able to pass the test. Sighing a little, he stands up straight as he salutes me, "forgive me on possibly calling your test light work instructor Daniel, I don't mean to insult you like that."

Holding my hand up, I explained that I didn't take offense to what he said, future explaining that I feel only those truly committed passed. "That's good to hear, well then instructor Daniel I'll be heading back now, so take care sir."

While he walks off to his barracks to get some shut eye for tomorrow's training, I head off to Hawk to see who the culprit was that I had caught. The night air is crisp as I walk to see Hawk, I also note that it looks like it could possibly snow even more soon, so I pick up the pace a little.

Once I arrive at Hawks room, I see him just barrel awake at his desk, "ah good lord Daniel, you scared me, I thought you were one of my demons coming to get me." As he laughs a little I ask him about the paper work that was gotten off the person I had caught.

"The paper work contained a manner of things, ranging from new training numbers, to possible army straight, along with supply levels, lucky for us that part of the papers is in our hands instead of the People's Republic of Labronsk."

The sigh he makes is long and drawn-out, "sir Hawk with all do respect have you been able to get anything else out of the person I caught?" He looks up, shaking his head, "he's silent on everything, not even a word out of him about who the other person is."

The atmosphere continues to sink, that's when an idea pops into my head, "sir if you don't mind could I have a shot at the intarigation, I may not know how to do it properly, but I can give it a shot." The look he gives me is one of question, but he simple shrugs, as he then proceeds to lead me to the cell room the person is being kept in.

When we get there, I see the person in one corner of the room with his hands and legs chained together. "Hey who's the brat?" The fa t he called me a brat doesn't sit well with me, so I ask Hawk if I am allowed to do as I please, "um just don't kill him, we need the information first."

Keeping what he said in mind I step into the cell, "this isn't going to get anywhere if I don't know your name, so who are you?" The laughter begins from him, until he finally stops long enough to say something, "if you think I'm gonna tell a brat my name your insane."

There's that word again, brat, I don't like it so I walk over to Hawk, and gesture for his side arm, he hesitantly hands it over, "well person if I'm insane then ok, I'm insane." After I finish saying that, I shoot at him, grazing his hair leaving a cut from where the bullet passed by.

"When we are done person you will be telling the truth, and nothing more then the truth, am I clear." The killer intent I had was clearly showing, as he began to shack a little in fear, just like how it should be. The intarigation is supposed to be one sided, the one being intarigated,is supposed to fear the one doing the intarigation, if he wishes to remain alive.
