Chapter 12

"You see, just like you the moon and I started out as kitsune." The deity began as Nikita followed behind him, to nowhere in particular. She looked up at where he was speaking from and saw images of what he spoke, it was almost like watching a movie she thought. But she had no time to think about it that way and listened on.

"The system of how we choose our mates never used to be like it is today. Back then, we were allowed to choose your mate, but the power would radiate from them, that would guide you better. I am thankful for what I became, after all things in life happen for a reason. That's what I believe, young one." He said and she watched the smile on his face grow and sighed in relief.

"Of course, it would have been easier thinking you could have ruled yourself. I oppose you doing it, because I tried it myself, and if it had gone on that way trust me, you wouldn't be in existence. There are times when we need to let go of our pride and get help when we need it." He said with a sigh at the end.

"If you had a choice, then how did you meet the goddess?" She asked and he threw his head back to laugh, and then his eyes drifted to the moving pictures in the dark. It was a woman with brown long hair that passed her waist, her golden eyes that smiled directly at Nikita.

"To tell you the truth, Nikita, I used to hate that woman. I couldn't sit in the same room as her, let alone breathe the same air...okay that's a little too much, but we never used to see eye to eye at any point. But that all changed when I accidently came to her home and heard the most beautiful sound ever. It was a night when there was going to be a suspected attack by humans, and I was sent to warn the nobles' residents.

I got to the compound, and I heard the most beautiful sound of a flute. At first, I wanted to ignore it, but something drew me to it. I wanted to know and so I went around the house and found her, and the instrument. The most ironic thing was that she was playing against the light of the moon, a phenomenon that had never been heard of. We never had any moon or sun, and yet there it was, there she was."

"So, she was the missing element of it all?"

"Yes, and when we found each other that night, well my eyes were opened. But despite that the attack never happened because of the emergence of a moon. I don't know how to explain how that had to do with anything, but it did, greatly. I also developed something which I thought beings with an animal instinct would never have thought of. Love. I loved her, Nikita, I always will."

"That word..." She began, then a picture of Kingsley came to her mind. Kingsley, sleeping, smiling, angry, exhausted tired, laughing. She should have forgotten him by now, she would never see him again. What was the use of holding on to a mere thought that would never become a reality.

"Yes, that word, that angel called love, changed everything about me. I started to realize I wanted to see her more. I thought about her when I was wake and when I slept, when I walked on the streets, abuilding desire to see her everyday was there as well. Her voice sounded like music to my ears, and everything she did made me feel happy.

But how we became deities, now that I don't remember."

"What? Excuse me, what do you mean you don't remember?" Nikita asked with a confused expression on her face.

"I really don't remember. I only knew is that I got prayers from my people every day and I was married to the woman I had fallen in love with and from there, I found out ruling the skies isn't any different than on earth."

"Huh?" She asked and he rolled his eyes.

"Moral of the story, don't dismiss somethings just because you feel like they won't benefit you, they will someday. That's your fate now. So whomever you marry, I have a feeling your path will be different, but on behalf of those before you. Try not to screw up, Ey?" He said and she nodded full of encouragement.

"I won't. I promise." She said and he chuckled.

"My words better not be wasted. Now off to your wedding, your groom awaits you."
