The results of the test are out

Turning to the source of the voice, Kathleen saw that it was a middle aged man, but unlike the others, he wore a deep blue gown. His face mask was slightly pulled down below his chin. He looked about sixty years old.

He was tall and had well groomed features, from the depth of his eyes to the charming voice he just spoke with, he was still very attractive despite his age.

His gaze was warm and calming, giving one a sense of comfort and tranquility.

"Those eyes…" he muttered as the smile on his face changed to a slightly bewildered look the moment his eyes met with Kathleen's.

He recollected himself almost immediately but not in time enough for Kathleen to miss the change in his countenance.

'What was happening today?' she wondered, 'first it was Aunt Elizabeth and now this man referring to her eyes.'

People had always said she had the most amazingly unique eyes: they were a pure purple hue flanked by natural velvety black eyelashes. It acted as a perfect complement to her lustrous blonde hair which cascaded down her shoulders to give her an ethereal beautiful look.

She had often wondered why her eye color was different from the normal ones that everybody had but haven't gotten the answer. Maybe they were the same with her biological parents' but she may never know as she had no clue whatsoever about her true origin. There were so many questions she needed answers to but she wasn't sure those answers will be gotten in this lifetime.

"How are you?" The new doctor asked, resuming his initial smile before she could voice out her concern.

"I think I feel better," Kathleen answered weakly, her voice tinged with a little hoarseness.

"That's good as I'll need you to be prepared for what I'm about to say," Dr Rivers said.

Kathleen had an ominous feeling that whatever he was about to say was not going to be good and her breathing quickened inexplicably.

Straight away, her maternal defenses flared up and she instinctively placed her hands on her flat stomach.

"How is my baby doctor, did I lose it?" She fought the rising panic within her and braced herself to ask.

She tried to sit up but was held back by Dr Rivers.

"Hey… you have to calm down, and no, you didn't lose your child," He quickly chipped in when he noticed her agitated state. "However, you'll have to decide whether to keep it or not."

"Why do I need to make a decision, doctor?" Kathleen asked, a frown instantly forming on her face.

'Despite the fact that it came at a wrong time in my life, I have always loved children and have planned to have a couple of them at the right time to fill up the emptiness in my life created by the lack of a proper family. Also given the fact that we had survived the crash, I believe God wanted me to keep the baby. So why was this doctor asking me if I wanted to keep the child?'

'Although it's not been long I knew about the pregnancy I am still unreconciled with the idea of terminating the pregnancy.'

"Well…" continued the doctor, "the baby is still alive but not in a very stable condition."

"You both may have survived the plane crash but I'm afraid that has affected the baby in a way. The impact from the violent landing of the plane has resulted in a threatened abortion which explains the bleeding."

"So what are the options?" Kathleen inquired edgily.

"We can evacuate the baby now or you can continue with the pregnancy," he responded gently.

"Why do I have a feeling that it is not that simple if I choose to continue with the pregnancy?"

"Yes, if you insist on carrying the pregnancy to term, the baby may be born with some complications or congenital defects. It is also possible for you to give birth to a healthy child but the likelihood of that happening is extremely low."

"If you'll go for an abortion, I'll advise you to carry it out as soon as possible," he advised.

"Do I have time to think about this?"

"Of course you do, but not for long. We have taken your blood sample to carry out some tests and the result will be out very soon.

Whatever decision you make will also be based on the result of the tests, so you will have to wait until the results are out to decide on what to do."

We also need you to contact a family member who can be with you because for now you have to avoid all forms of activities and rest very well these few days to fully recover your health.

"The results of the tests are out, and I think I'm interested in her case," announced the doctor who had been staring at Kathleen strangely with a subtle smile.

He looked at Kathleen and for a split second it was like he was trying to see someone through her, he nodded at her then strolled out the same way he came.

'Clank!' the stethoscope dropped to the ground from Dr Rivers' hand.

"What!!!" he exclaimed, "I can't believe my ears!"

Others, "???"

"Who was that, and why is everyone acting weird?" Kathleen asked, confused by everyone's reaction.

"That's Professor Gaius, young lady. Professor Gaius Lewith Hunt. A renowned doctor of traditional Chinese Medicine," answered Dr Sumrall, Ben's medical director in a shaky voice.

It was Kathleen's turn to be stupefied. "You don't say!" she literally squealed in disbelief, safe for her weak body, she would have been jumping round the hospital.

"This is incredible. I finally got to meet my idol, Professor Gaius, the world's renowned Traditional Chinese Doctor, and to think that he is interested in my case?"

"This is too good to be true. But how possible is that? I heard he doesn't attend to people anymore and has even stopped practicing," Kathleen expressed her doubts.

"You'd better believe it my dear. If the Professor has given you his word, it's as good as done; he never goes back on his word," Dr Rivers stated matter-of-factly.
