Ling Wei mourns for three weeks, then rises up the next day and says, "I have to stand up again." Yang Xuilan does not want me to be like this, so Ling Wei leaves the house and chops some wood, then prepares some food for himself. Ling Wei does this for a month and gets back in shape as his health improves; the next day, he does it again.

After that, he returns to his room and begins reading all of the Animals that he copied. The first animal he reads is the viper. He goes outdoors with the book in his hand and begins to replicate it. Ling Wei gets into position as he practices, and he notices that the viper moves in only one way. And because the viper moves like water, calm and silent, he goes to a river and stands where the river flows for 5 hours to learn how to move like water. Ling Wei repeats this for a week but learns nothing. As Ling Wei is about to give up, He notices that a wave appears every time he moves. After witnessing this, he returns to the river and discovers that his body is blocking the flow of water, causing waves to form. As Ling Wei observes this, he finds a fish moving in the water without causing a wave to form.
