Neighbor Nextdoor 1

After my talk with Carla, I returned home. The sky was darkening, I spent more time with Carla than I planned. It was so enjoyable that I lost track of time. Talking with Carla after a long time felt great. Now we are going on a date on Sunday too.

While walking to my house, the door of the next house opened. From the door come out a girl year younger than me. She had a tanned tan and dark hair gathered as a ponytail.

"Oscar, you're late!"

"...Huh?"

She is Sera Python. Our next-door neighbor's daughter. They moved in about two years ago, I think.

"I was going to ask your help with my homework. But you are later than usual today!"

"How do you know I'm later than usual?"

"Oh please, auntie talks about you almost every day with my Ma. Anyway, can you help me out?"

"*sigh* Fine. Just give me twenty minutes and get your things in the meantime. I'll be waiting in my house."

I sometimes help her out with her homework and her studies. I feel like an older brother while helping her out. It satisfies me.

I opened the door and come inside my house. My mom was sitting in the living room, watching television. I guess today was the day of her favorite show's airing day.

"You are late. Everything alright?"

"Yeah... You remember Carla, right? I talked with her. Turns out two weeks ago Grandpa Henry passed away."

"Oh... He was such a nice and kind man... How was Carla, is she alright?"

"Yes, she is pretty shaken but recovering...I guess."

Aside from my selfish reasons for the date, I really want to cheer Carla up. Nora used to help people around her with a smile on her face. I admired that side of hers. I know I can't do the same because I'm not suitable for this. But I want to help people I have the power to do. And those who are in front of me who need help, I will do everything in my power to help them.

It may sound naive. Heck, I'm sure it does. But, I don't care. My world was grey when Nora appeared and brought colors to it. She never asked me anything for the things she have done for me. She never asked anyone for the good and kindness she did.

Unfortunately, there isn't anyone else who does good for the sake of helping others exist around Daxhoull now. This city is beautiful, has so many options for its people and many more good sides that I can't count now. But, like almost every other place there is corruption here too.

There are several families who have political power over Daxhoull. As Daxhoull is one of the most important cities of Utuvis therefore they have some political power in the government too. Some of these families are known to be actually kind and helpful to the populace. But you can never know. Even their homes are in separate districts in the city.

There are three families who hold the most power among these influential families. The Dax and Houll families are founders of this city. They have the most say in here. Right after them is the Rextert family. They are the owners of the schools and libraries of the city.

Well, corruption is a serious problem. But they usually hide it well. This brings bad memories back.

I changed my clothes prepared my homework too. While I'll help Sera, I should take care of my homework too. I walked out of my room and climb down the stairs. Our house is a two-story building. Like the rest of the houses in this district. Mine and mom's rooms are on the second floor. The kitchen, living room, and bathroom are on the first floor. It's not an overly big or small house. It just has the ideal size.

I walked into the kitchen to drink some water. I think ever since I start to learn water magic I'm drinking more water. Is there something about needing to replenish water in my body as I used water spells?

*Ding Ding*

The bell ringed. It's probably Sera. But... I hate this ringtone. I should change this sometime. I walked to the door and opened it. Yep, it's Sera.

"Thanks for the help, Oscar!"

"We didn't even begin yet. Anyway, come in."

"Don't worry, don't worry. Hello, Auntie Miranda!"

She took off her shoes and rushed inside. She is already quite familiar with our house. and as usual, she is energetic.

"Oh, Sera! Here for homework again?" (Miranda)

"Yep! Oscar agreed to help me again. I don't know what I would do without his help." (Sera)

"You are exaggerating. I'm sure you will do it too if you study seriously." (Oscar)

"Teehee!" (Sera)

"Don't teehee me! Ugh, anyway we will be up in my room, mom." (Oscar)

"Ok. Have a nice study." (Miranda)

We climbed up the stairs and arrived at my room. I'm keeping my room tidy and clean, especially after the recent things. Don't want anyone to find mana crystals and liquid mana after all.

"Ugh... Even your room is tidier than mine, Oscar."

"It's because this way it's easier to live."

"You talk like mom."

"Because auntie is right."

She pouted after my words. She is a tomboyish but cute girl. I won't surprised if she has a lot of boys who ask her out.

"Let's begin. Show me your homework."

"Here, it's math, again."

"You seriously dislike math, ha?"

"I hate it. It's incredibly frustrating. I just can't do it."

"You can do it if you study it. But I can't really force you."

And we begin with math homework. She had more homework than I thought. What the heck, teachers?! Why there is so much homework just for a single weekend?!
