Luna's Trial part 1

Luna was waiting in front of the old wooden door. She was inside a room with only a simple chair in it. This was a waiting room. She was in here this room for an hour already. She was waiting for the trial to begin. There was a colosseum-like room behind the old wooden doors.

She had to be judged in the trial because of her big failure with her previous spell. She didn't expect her spell to go wrong and cause this. She will have to fight against many opponents and defeat them all to clear this trial. The main purpose of this trial is to prove one's power to defend itself and defeat enemies. All this was that her failure might alert clans and the rest of the supernatural world of their existence. The witches have been in hiding for the last four hundred years and every coven on earth wants to keep it this way.

The trial will happen in a reflection dimension. This dimension mirrors the real world and whatever happens inside stays inside. The witches use this dimension to keep their existence a secret. It was one of the most fabulous creations of the witches to this day. She studied this dimension for years and knew everything about it.

The dimension also allowed the trial to work properly. Some of the creatures are far too dangerous to release into the real world. They were locked up into several reflection dimensions. Some of those creatures will be the opponents she will face today. She knew almost all of those creatures and there were a lot of tough opponents she could face.

"I wonder what will be the first one. A werewolf maybe? A werewolf would be somewhat easy compared to an ogre or orc. Well, hard or not I'm going to beat them all. I just don't want to drag this for a long time."

There was a big stone on the wall next to the door. Suddenly the stone lit up with green light. This was the sign that the trial was ready. She took a deep breath and walked to the door and push it open. After taking out of the room she found herself in the middle of an arena. She looked around and observe everyone with her passing glance. The Edgar coven had about fifty members. Right now about forty members of the coven were here.

The regular members were in the audience seats and the elders were in the special balcony overlooking the whole arena. There was also an announcer near her. The announcer was a tall boy with orange hair. His hair was in a loose ponytail. The hood he was wearing was concealing everything but his face. He also had piercings on his ears and lips. He had a constant smile on his face. Luna always finds that smile annoying. This boy's name was Hector. One of the previous candidates for the heir position.

Hector had yellow eyes that would creep anyone who gaze at them for a long time. He is also known to be quite troublesome to deal with. There was also a specific symbol on his hood. An orange-colored star.

"Dear audience, the star of the night has arrived. Let's give her a warm welcome."

There was nothing but silence in response to Hector's comment. Seeing that no one didn't respond, his smile grew wider. He was enjoying the silent rage of the coven towards the Luna.

"Oh, would you look at that, the audience seems to not be in the mood the cheer our precious heir. I wonder why this happened? Care to explain, our precious heir?"

"Shut your mouth, Hector. Just start the trial already."

"İmpatient are we? Well, I have a duty to uphold and unlike certain people, I always do my duty with my best."

Luna squinted her eyes with annoyance. Seeing that hector's smile froze for a second before he recovered it. He looked at the elders' balcony and seeing that elders nod he flew up into the air.

"As we all know, we gather here to witness the trial for the Luna Edgar. Tonight's trial will be consists of three stages. If the participant will be able to complete the three stages, the elders will decide her fate in the coven. Let us begin with the first stage."

A metal door on the other side of the arena opened and a tall man come out. This man had white hair and greyish skin color. She couldn't see his eyes but even from several tens of meters, she could feel the heavy aura of death surrounding that man.

"A ghoul..."

"That is right! Luna Edgar's first opponent is a ghoul. A ghoul is a monster of the night who feeds on the flesh of humans. They are the cursed beings who are stuck between death and life so they are neither living beings nor dead beings. Let's how well she can do against this monster of the night."

She clicked her tongue. Ghouls were undead monsters so they were especially hard to deal with. She created a fireball in the palm of her hand and threw it at the ghoul. The fireball exploded right on its face. It burned his face badly but a second later he recovered and there was no trace left on his face.

Ghouls had an incredible regeneration ability. Even though they were undead this regeneration ability of theirs makes them indistinguishable from ordinary humans. Because of their regeneration, their bodies won't rot as long as they feed on human flesh. This ghoul she was facing was starved. As he didn't feed on human flesh for a while now his skin color turned greyish and his hair turned white. If it's left alone the starvation will turn him into a walking corpse.

No matter how strong their regeneration is, it still requires a certain amount of energy. The energy they gain from feasting on human flesh. They also got stronger the more they eat.

"This will be a good warm-up."

Luna took out several seeds from her pocket and threw them at the ghoul. He was quickly approaching Luna, his speed was more than the average human. Seeds fell on the ground right in front of the ghoul. Right after the seeds fell, huge roots come out of the ground and bind the ghoul.

Luna brought her hands together and muttered some incomprehensible words. Suddenly roots caught fire. The fire was so intense that nothing could be seen inside the flames. But just a second later ghoul comes out of the bindings after tearing them off. His body was badly burnt but it was quickly recovering to its previous state.

"So, fire is no go. How about some lightning?"

Luna snapped her fingers and from the ashes of the roots snakes made of electricity come out and attacked the ghoul. The snakes start to tear his body apart. They were both shocking him and tearing off his flesh. He grabbed one of the snakes and ate it. After eating that snake ghoul's body regenerated in a second and looked even stronger than before.

"Huh? It can do that?"

"...I think we have a ghoul with a rare ability in the arena, dear audiences. Let's see if our precious heir can deal with it."

Luna released a sigh. Hector's comments were getting on her nerves. More than the ghoul, he was more of a source of trouble. She shook her head and focused back on the ghoul. She gathered essence on her index finger and start drawing some lines on the air in front of her. While she was drawing lines ghoul was running toward her.

The moment she finished drawing lines ghoul's body broke into many pieces. Every piece was cut out from the body just like a straight line, the line similar to what she drew. Even the head of the ghoul was cut into five pieces. Ghoul couldn't recover from this much damage and he instantly died.

"...Luna Edgar cleared the first stage of the trial."

Elders' balcony

There were four elders and the leader of the coven. They were all sitting next to each other and watching the arena below. The leader of the coven, Eliana Edgar had a frown on her face.

"She looks promising. She only spent about one percent of her power."

Elder Elijah commented after watching the first stage of the trial. The elders had much more knowledge and experience compared to other members of the coven. They could easily notice who was trying to use which spell even before they could complete it or how they were going to use their essence.

"She could finish it from the beginning. She just wasted time with those pathetic spells of her."

"Don't be so hard on her, Eliana. Everyone might make mistakes."

"On the other hand, you are too soft on her, Elder Elijah."

Elder Camila pointed out the soft approach to Elijah with a displeased face. Elijah was the uncle of Luna and Camila was hinting that he was soft on her because of their blood bond.

Most of the Edgar Coven is consist of the Edgar Family but there were also a lot of people who didn't have blood relations with the family. Camila was one of them. She worked her way to the top and because of this, she had no tolerance for mistakes. Especially a mistake that its punishment was the trial.

"Hahaha. She is a promising young witch. If we want to survive in the future we need every young witch we can. We all know the situation on the Sanraisu. There are already many suspicious movements related to the clans reported. They will eventually set their eyes outside of the Sanraisu. They will notice us if not today, a few years later at most. When the troubling times are getting closer, should we really punish our best witch?"
