Council of Boys
"Today we gathered here to congratulate our member Jason for his courage and success."
Rick said with a serious voice. We were gathered at one of the empty classrooms. All of the boys of our circle were gathered here for this occasion. Even Ted joined us today after hearing the news.
"Do we really have to do this? It feels embarrassing."
Jason said from the corner he was sitting. I can imagine but I'm not going to sympathize with him this time. Because we all know that all of this embarrass him. Why are we doing this? Because that's what we do to our closest friends.
"Silence! Embarrassment isn't important right now. What's important is that you are taking a girl to date." (Rick)
"...You are just jealous don't you." (Jason)
"...yes... Anyway, the time of the date is tomorrow. We shall discuss what to do-" (Rick)
"Guys, I don't think this is appropriate. I mean this is his relationship. We shouldn't get involved with it. It's his personal life." (Mason)
...He is right. We might have taken things further than we should. Well, our true goal is here was to support Jason. But he is the only one who got a date. So, some of us might get jealous.
"Surprisingly, he is right." (Matt)
"Hey!" (Mason)
"Well, we just give Jason our support in case of anything goes bad. As far as I know, this is the first date he ever went." (Lucas)
"How the heck do you know this?!" (Jason)
"Anyway, have you decided where you will go with Hope?" (Lucas)
Jason was still surprised that Lucas knew of his lack of experience in this matter. But a few seconds later he took a deep breath and told the same plan he told me earlier.
"I was thinking about the old movie theater we used to go to. We can watch some of the old movies then maybe eat dinner somewhere close and you know, a little walk at the park to end things nicely." (Jason)
"That's a good plan. But maybe dinner on the first date is a bit much?" (Matt)
"I don't know. It's up to him. He can make it a success or a failure." (Lucas)
"I think it will be fine as long as he doesn't do something that would make her mad. Be careful to not make her bored." (Ted)
Hmm... Ted is actually sounded logical. Did he have a girlfriend before? Nora might have mentioned this before. He is the only person with experience here. But Lucas is not bad either. He is that friend who is lonely but has the most accurate advice on relationships. I think the reason that he is still single is his laziness.
"Then it's decided. We will not interfere. We wish you success on your path to happiness." (Rick)
"You are enjoying this, don't you?" (Jason)
"Yeah. I really liked it. Anyway, we will be here if your date fails." (Rick)
"...thanks..." (Jason)
After that, we spend our lunch break just chatting about random things. When everyone left the classroom Rick asked me to stay back. Jason was so focused on talking with Ted that he didn't notice.
"What's going on?"
"We are going to tail them tomorrow. To make sure Jason won't fail."
"...Aren't we just decided that we won't interfere?"
"Yeah, so what?"
"Just asking... Isn't this wrong? Jason is our friend."
"You know Jason. Yesterday was a miracle. When he gets anxious and nervous he just starts to talk nonsense. He might just go and fail everything just because of his nervousness."
Ugh... He is right. He has that annoying problem. Well, I have the same problem but let's talk about it later.
"Fine. Let's go to make sure he won't fail."
"Great. He said that they will meet at 10 AM. We would meet at the square at 9.30. I heard that girls will do something similar by the way."
"Oh... It will be chaotic... We have a long day tomorrow."
"Yes. See you in class."
Rick left me in the classroom and went to others. I hope the same thing won't happen to me if I ever take someone on a date. But... won't it be unfair? Ah, I don't know... Maybe I should ask Kairi out. But that would be problematic. If someone focuses they can notice that she isn't human. Maybe the excuse of cosplay can make it work. Let's just go to the classroom. I will think about these later.
