Ryan got distracted from his inner thoughts when he heard Elizabeth number being called to fight. He watch the screen wondering who her opponent will be, and became worried when he found out.
Her opponent was against a guy that had killed his last 2 opponents and have a record of 17 fights and 1 loss. His nickname was "The Prodigy". He is on his 12 consecutive win streak.
Ryan watch the guy last 2 matches because his nickname stood out but he didn't seem overly strong. He was definitely talented in fighting, he had killed both his opponents with only his Martial arts.
Ryan couldn't help but to worry about Elizabeth, she doesn't seem like she the type to surrender easily.
Tom and Brian in the audience seating was thinking the same thing. It was taking every ounce of Tom will power to not stop the match. He understood its better to go through a life threatening situation now where she can surrender, than when she by herself. It would be good experience for her, for when she make it into the academy.
The academy is not as safe of a place most people would assume. Tom clenched his fist as he watch the announcer yell "FIGHT!"
When Elizabeth had realized who her opponent was from the nickname, a thought to surrender without fighting pass through her head. She may act cold and tough. But she still only a 14 year old girl at the end of the day. Without her strong drive to get stronger, she would of just surrendered.
But she was to focus on wanting to get stronger and improve herself, she feel like she will never be able to accomplish her goals if she back down now.
As her opponent walked on stage she took a deep breath to calm her heart. It would be a lie to say she wasn't afraid but she understood you have to face your fear in life at times. She pulled out both her swords and got into a fighting stance.
This was the first fight she had a serious look on instead of a cold indifferent one. The Prodigy stood across from her and seeing the look in her eyes he smiled.
"It will be impossible for you to win. You better off surrendering now when you have the chance, or you wont get a chance to regret it."
Hearing his words cause ripples and hesitation in her eyes.
"FIGHT!" The announcer yelled once everyone was on there stage.
Elizabeth didn't move right away, seem like she was still debating on what to do. The Prodigy pulled his sword from his ring and got into a fighting stance.
Elizabeth finally came to a decision and determination was shown in her face.
Swoosh
She made her move towards him at her maximum speed hoping to end this quickly. She have no idea what his element is but if she end it before he have a chance to use it everything will be fine.
Sadly for Elizabeth her speed wasn't fast enough. When she got around 20 feet away from him, her brain shook. It felt like someone just threw a full power punch directly at her brain.
Elizabeth body function froze in mid sprint and the momentum she still had from running push her forward. It was like the guy was waiting for this exact moment and he used his movement speed to close the gap.
He swung his sword right at her neck to end the match before she could recover. When Elizabeth brain shook and the head pounding pain came in, all she could do was look forward. Her vision was extremely blurry and shakey, she couldn't really make out what.
She didn't really have many thoughts at the time she even forgot she was in the middle of a fight. The only thing in her mind was confusion, wondering why her head hurt so bad. Seeing multiple figures coming at her and they all look like they had swords jogged her memory a little.
She understood she had to move but she couldn't as the blade was coming down.
For the people watching, everything had happened so fast. Seeing Elizabeth charged towards her opponent just to trip in the middle of her run. Than seeing The Prodigy making his move to take advantage of it.
Shock, worry, confusion, fear, and many other emotions travel through people in this brief moment. Some people in the audience was already aware of how this guy fight and this exact turns of events happened before.
The pity in there eyes knowing she wouldn't have time to verbally surrender before the sword descend.
Ryan just flinch and instinctively close his eyes to not see the sword make contact.
Brian eyes was wide open and only shock, worry, and sadness could be seen in his eyes.
Tom instinctively jumped out his seat and screamed "NO," as loud as he could. Anger and sadness could be heard in that yell hitting everyone souls near by.
Elizabeth seeing the sword descend pushed all her lighting mana to the brain in order to supercharge it.
"I SURRENDER." Elizabeth yelled in her mind with all her strength. Even though her brain was able to think now and tell the body to say surrender. It doesn't mean that her body have the ability to keep up.
But lucky for her, The Prodigy took an oath. The words I surrender was barely auditable, and interpretable, he was still forced to stop. Even though I surrender came out extremely slurred but he instinctively understood what she was trying to say and can't act as if he didn't.
Elizabeth fell to the ground as the blade stopped before making contact. Elizabeth had pass out from over charging her brain, but no one knows that. No one even knows she yelled surrender, people thought he took pity on her.
Ryan seeing her still alive once he opened his eyes thought the same thing. He sighed in relief that her head was still attached but still was worried about what he had did to her to forced her to pass out in middle of her running.
Brian thought the same as Ryan but Tom thought other wise. Why did he rush her if he wasn't going to strike and if he knocked her unconscious he can't kill her anyway. Tom felt like The Prodigy
must had every intention to kill her but something unexpected had happened for him to stop.
The crowd cheered and the fights continued. Elizabeth was picked off the stage and took to a place to recover. Tom and Brian left there seats to go see her.
Ryan sat there and continued to watch the fights. He thought about stopping his matches for today and check on Elizabeth. But when he thought more about it and realized his presence there will not change anything, there was no point to.
Thinking about The Prodigy made him remember he can give himself a nickname. He got up and walked to the attended in the room to let her know he want to use a nickname. She had no problem with it and it only took a couple minutes to do.
Ryan sat back down and waited for his name to get called. Not to much time pass after Phase 4 of the tournament started, when his name got called.
"For the rank1 stage are first fighter is Unrivalled In my rank, number 187. He fought 3 matches in total and won all 3."
