Do we have a guest?

For the first time after moms death I slept peacefully without any worries. When I woke up grandpa was already out of house. In the small kitchen I saw a steaming pot and a letter:

Good morning Devy!

I made us breakfast. Since you were sleeping so peacefully I didn´t call you. I´m out for work. Eat this and regain strenght. You will need it.

Your favourite grandpa ;-D

I smiled. Living with grandpa wasn´t a bad idea. It felt more like home than the big residence I lived in with father. And grandpa was already old. I would take care of him and help him out. First I should clean around the house first. Even though grandpa wasn´t messy it wouldn´t be bad to clean through it thoroughly and plug the weed in his little garden behind the house. With these thoughts I ate breakfast and started working. It was already evening when grandpa returned. He looked tired but when I ran to him he smiled.

"Grandpa you´re back. Come on in. I made us dinner."

"It´s good to have you here. I don´t have to cook for myself anymore and have someone wait for me at home." Grandpa laughed happily.

"I´m also glad to be here. I feel much more relaxed here. Thank you for letting me stay." I grinned.

Both went into the kitchen to eat dinner. Little did they know that this happiness wouldn´t last long. Across the street Jackson was watching them walk into a shabby little house. Disgusted he didn´t even dare to lean on the wall next to him to hide when he noticed the old man looking in his direction. Everything here was dirty and rundown. How could someone like Devanta survive here? He knew that before she came to Mr. Machiavelli she lived here with her mother but after experiencing the wealth of the Machiavelli household he thought she would at least look for a hotel room to stay but she decided to stay with this old man who isn´t even related to her.

He was even more confused when he saw Devanta deliberately cling her arm under the arm of the old man to help him inside the house while smiling cheerfully. In the three years he knew her, he never saw her being affectionate with anyone and especially never saw her smiling brightly like this. He didn´t know what to do now.

Originally he wanted to find her and bring her back home. This morning after he heard that Devanta already packed her things and left, he immediately asked Mr. Machiavelli if he at least let her live here. He promised that she wouldn´t trouble him anymore and she woulnd´t face him. This house is by far too big for them to meet coincidentally so he thought Mr. Machiavelli would agree to his suggestion. He didn´t expected him to react this negatively.

"I already got rid of her. Do you really think I want to take her back? Why should I still waste my money raising her in this house if she isn´t of use? Unless..." He looked at his adoptive son with stern eyes.

"Unless what?" Jackson asked.

"Unless you take her as your bodyguard. I wouldn´t mind making her your servant. What do you think?" Mr. Machiavelli waited for Jackson´s reaction. He knew that this foolish son of his was attached to his daughter and he could use this opportunity to make a real man out of him.

Jackson wasn´t sure if he should take this deal. He didn´t want to let Devanta serve him. How could he? She was still the biological daughter of Mr. Machiavelli. He couldn´t just degrade her like that. But still... you could pretend like she had to serve him and just keep her close by his side. Actually that wasn´t a bad idea.

"Alright. I agree but I have to see if Devanta also agrees. I will go find her and bring her back." Jackson spoke. Francesco Machiavelli smiled. He knew Jackson would agree.

"Then go ahead. If she agrees to these terms she can stay." And with that he dismissed Jackson.

Now seeing Devanta this happy he wasn´t sure anymore if she would agree. Still he walked toward the house and knocked on the door. Devanta who heard that someone knocked on the door came to open to door just to find Jackson before her.

"Jackson? What are you doing here?" She was surprised. She didn´t think he would find her that fast.

Without a word he walked passed her into the house. He looked around curiously. Everything was old and shabby but still it had a homey feeling. He saw on his left side the small kitchen where the old man was cooking something on the stove his back facing him.

"Hey! What are you doing here? Don´t just walk into someone elses house." Devanta scolded him.

"I just wanted to see were you are staying." Jackson defended himself. While they were bickering with each other, the old man turned around just to see a young and handsome man standing in his house.

"Little Devy. Do we have a guest? I already have hot water here. Quick brew him a tea." Grandpa ordered and turned around to stir his soup.

"Ehm okay... Please have a seat. I get you some tea." Devanta didn´t want Jackson to stay here for long. He was still the young master of the Machiavelli household. He was born with a silver spoon. She didn´t want him to see how she was living now.

Jackson did as she said and sat down at the kitchen table and waited for his tea. He had maids to tend to his needs. He didn´t think he would get tea from Devanta personally.

"Here is your tea. I hope it´s alright like this. We don´t have any fancy cups." Devanta gave Jackson his tea.

"It´s alright. Don´t bother." Jackson smiled. Devanta also took her tea and sat opposite of him.

"So why are you here?" She asked.

"I wanted to see you."

"That´s not the only reason you´re here. Spill it. Why are you really here?" Devanta looked at him suspiciously.
