Chapter 2

Blake smiles at her screen. She waves goodbye to her mom and exits the zoom app. She sets her laptop aside and goes to the kitchen, she warms up her left over Chinese. She lays back on her bed and streams the movie Lights Out on her laptop while she eats. She jumps and gasps, feeling her heart just drop several times. But she loves this movie. This is her second time seeing it. When she's done, she shakes away the jitters and throws away her stained, empty Chinese box. She walks back to her room, flicking the lights off as she goes and crawls into bed. She sighs softly and curls up in the blanket.

She hums and drowsily opens her eyes. Her room is still dark, she looks over at her alarm clock and whines softly. Three freaking thirty. Blake rolls to her side and hears a soft creak. Her eyes widen, she must have just been imagining. But then she hears it again. Blake turns and jolts upright, she knows her apartment very well. It doesn't creak, ever.

Blake carefully gets off her bed onto the carpet floor. Blake creeps to her dresser and picks up her Karambit knife, she moves to the bedroom door and slowly pulls open the cracked door, just enough to slide out.

Blake moves down the hall, a light is on in the kitchen. A flashlight. Blake peeks carefully around the corner and sees the person hunched over looking in the mirror. Blake knocks softly on the wall.

The woman jumps and gasps sharply, banging her head on the fridge. "Agh! Jeez Blake! You scared the crap out of me!"

Penny looks at her younger sister, Blake stares at her with fury. She holds up the knife to show Penny as she turns the lights on. Blake then signs to Penny.

'If you turned the corner when I came down the hall, I might have killed you idiot.'

Penny shrugs, "But you didn't?"

Blake shakes her head and smiles, 'You're supposed to be on a plane to Hawaii! Why are you here!?'

"I wanted to scare you, check, and I wanted to go with you. My fiancé can wait."

Blake stares at her and shakes her head, 'You sir, are stupid.'

Penny grins, "I missed you too. Where's your food?"

'Dude I moved in three days ago. I don't have food.'

"Then let's go get some, I'm hungry."

'How's that my problem?'

Blake rubs her eyes and turns on the living room tv, she was lucky that mom and dad gave her one. "I'll make some eggs, you want some Blake?"

Blake looks at her and nods, Penny smiles. "Cool, thanks for letting me crash your apartment."

"Pffft." Blake looks at her and rolls her eyes,

'Like I had a choice.'

Penny grins, "I wondered how long it would take for you to learn that."

Blake smiles, they stay silent, the only sound is that of the eggs sizzling and the tv switching channels. Blake finally stops, Penny glances at Blake's face and smirks. Whats with that face? A calf giving birth? Penny mentally laughs to herself at her gross thought.

Suddenly a short loud whistle fills the room, Penny jumps and looks at Blake. "What?"

Blake is on her feet and pointing to the screen, her entire body shaking. Penny takes the eggs off the burner, sets it on the counter and hurries over.

The camera is lying on the ground. "Whoa. What happened?"

Blake, is as pale as snow white. "Blake? What happened?"

Hesitantly she starts signing, 'We need to leave. Now.'

"Blake you're freaking me out."

"Hey-Blake-Blake! Sign slowler!"

'The reporter just was talking about rabies, she just got tackled and the guy was biting her.'

Penny scoffs and huffs out, "You brat! I thought something wa-"

Kabam! Boooom!

They both jump and look out the window, a flare of light and a mushroom from the explosion rise in the air. They shake awfully.

"What the f..."

Blake bolts to her room with Penny shouting after her. Blake rushes into her room, grabs a knife and throws it to Penny.

Penny gasps and catches the sheathed blade. She shakes like crazy. "Hold on, hold on...B-Blake? What...hold on." She mutters,

Blake pulls her rifle out of her closet and throws the strap over her head on her shoulder. 'Penny! We need to leave! Now!'

Penny nods, "O-o-okay. Where?"

Blake grabs her emergency backpack, 'On me. Okay? Penny, you stay on me!'

Penny nods, she is shaking worse than Blake. Blake pulls her glock from under her bed and hands it to Penny.

"Are storming the city?" Penny asks,

Blake gives her a soft glare, telling her they need to be prepared for anything.

Blake hurries to the front door, grabs the keys and throws open the door. They bolt out, down the stairs into the parking lot and to Blake's jeep.

They jump in and Blake turns it over. "Wait wait, where are we going Blake?"

'I dont know, out of state. This is gonna be harsh.'

Blake puts it in reverse and flies backward and spins around. She puts it in drive and they drive over the curbs and onto the road. They floor it down the road and towards the highway.

Then suddenly, all the light posts go out, their hearts drop. Blake screeches to a halt, Penny braces and shouts out.

They stare at the military trucks blocking the road. One of the humvees points a 50. Cal at them.

"Out of the car!" One shouts,

Blake looks at Penny and climb out. Blake takes the chance and shoulders her rifle as penny asks, "Whats going on?"

"Get over here! Come on!"

They cautiously hurry over to the soldier, he raises a scanner and flashes a red light in Penny's eyes, she flinches and pulls away.

"She's clear."

He then scans Blake's, she whines and pulls away. "They're clear! Hand over the rifle." He says,

Blake grips the strap, "If you want a sharp shooter, its her." Penny says,

"Give me the rif-behind us!"

The humvee opens fire on civilians rushing them. Blake grabs Penny's hand and pulls her back to the jeep.

The soldier's fire at will as they are quickly tackled to the ground. Screams fill the air, Blake doesnt dare look back, she lets go of Penny, they climb into the jeep.

"Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!" Penny shouts,

Blake flies back in reverse, the jeep has such power that Penny has to use a lot of strength to keep herself from head-butting the dashboard.

Blake flips the car around as bodies slam into the corners and back of the jeep.

Penny is jumping in her seat as Blake floors it and they fly off.

"What the heck are those things!?" Penny shouts,

Blake slides the jeep around the corner and turns the wheel harsh and fast, creating a 180 spin. People scream and run from the corpses that chase them.

The engine beckons them to go faster as they drive away. They make it almost out of the city, they fly through three red lights when a van with a body hanging half out the window slams into the driver's side. The jeep roars and they flip and roll down a ridge into a canal.
