Chapter 8

Damien rolled off Sheila, resting on his back on the side of the bed while panting quite heavily.

"That was amazing!" Sheila drawled in contentment, whilst also trying to catch her breath.

"I know right." Damien replied with a chuckle. They were both trying to catch their breath after going at it for hours.

Now they were both quietly staring into space, Damien started to think of how he'd reveal to Sheila who his mate was.

He didn't know whether or not now was the right time to tell her but he knew if she found out from someone else other than him, it would definitely hurt her feelings and put him in a more difficult place.

He turned to stare at her and his eyes immediately landed on her perfectly sculpted body, making him hard for her all over again.

Sheila noticed the way Damien looked at her and she blushed. "Don't tell me you want to go at it again?" She asked with a sly smile.

She faked a gasp when she got no reply from him. "You are insatiable, Damien. I am..."

"Relax babe, you and I both know you want this." He teased her with a sly smile tugging on his lips.

Sheila leaned forward so she could be closer to him and she placed her hands on his forehead for a few seconds before raking her hands through her hair.

"You know I love your hair." She complimented suddenly.

"I love yours too." He replied with a light chuckle.

"Aren't you going to tell me what's bothering you?" She asks and then it hits Damien that Sheila wasn't one to forget things easily.

He sighed deeply.

Sheila eyes never left Damien as she waited for him to tell her what exactly was bothering him.

She knew something happened while he was away and he wasn't doing a good job hiding it. He might have done well hiding it in front of others but not in front of her.

She grew up with him and she knew him better than anyone else.

She and Damien were never close as children but they knew each other. He would always stare at her and she would always cry whenever they were in class and she had failed a test.

He never said anything to her but always stared at her and she felt he saw her as a cry baby so one day, she gathered enough courage and challenged him.

It was the first time she saw emotions in him. He wasn't scared at her approach but confused as to why she challenged him.

She told him she wasn't a cry baby and he should stop staring at her pitifully whenever she cried. He had apologized and confessed that he wasn't looking down on her but felt the need to console her and tell her she'll get better.

Ever since then they became close friends and were inseparable.

"Sheila..." He trailed off as he wiped his face with his palm. He was contemplating on her to tell her that he had found his mate and who his mate was.

Sheila knew how much he disliked Kira. As a young child, he had helped Kira because he wanted to and felt sad for her. Damien was never able to stand it whenever he saw women crying, his heart would ache.

But Kira's aunt had attacked him and proved to him everything he had been told was nothing but the truth.

As time went on, he began to lose his conscience and wasn't moved at all by anything related to girls as he could honestly care less but then Sheila was the only exception. She wasn't like the others.

"Damien, tell me already." She demanded hastily, getting sick and tired of his silence.

"The thing is, I... I" He stuttered.

"Are you going to tell me or will you keep acting this way because if you don't, I'm leaving and if what you're worried about is my reaction then stop that cause I'm no longer a child you and don't have to worry about how I'd feel." She snapped, he sighed.

"The truth is, I met my mate and you won't believe who she is." Damien finally spoke and Sheila deadpans.

The deafening silence in the room was definitely getting even more uncomfortable for Damien. The silence was so bad that they would actually be able to hear a pin drop.

He could literally hear her heart beating faster and faster and he didn't need anyone to tell him just how confused and shocked Sheila was at the moment.

He swallowed a painful lump in his throat as he stared into Sheila eyes. Her eyes demanded he go on with his speech and that she was listening but he was definitely nervous about proceeding as he could not bear to see the pain in her eyes.

"So the thing is, uhm, my mate turned out to be the new Alpha of the Redmoon pack." He drew nervously.

Sheila closed her eyes trying to take in the new information she had just heard. When she opened her eyes, she opened it with a smile on her face, "A man is your mate?" She asked, trying not to laugh out loud.

"I thought he was already married and had a daughter?" She added, catching Damien off guard.

The skin between Damien's brows creased in confusion. "What do you mean?" He asked.

"What do you mean by what do I mean babe? I just asked a question from what you just told me. You said your mate is the Alpha of the Redmoon pack and you and I know his wife is dead and he has a daughter and that makes your story so hilarious!" She replied with a chuckle and Damien mentally laughed at how serious she sounded.

Damien sighed weakly while shaking his head. She must have heard him wrongly or not have heard him adding 'new' before the word alpha.

"The thing is, the word on the street is that Alpha Frederick of the Redmoon pack has actually passed away." He informed, she frowns

"What do you mean he passed away?" Sheila raised her brows in a questioning manner.

"When? How? And if this is true then why don't we use this as an opportunity to end the Redmoon pack once and for all?" She suggested.

"Sheila, relax yourself." He spoke softly to her as she was starting to work herself up.

"What's wrong?" She asked, confused at his reaction. He was being so calm and different from the Damien she knew.

The Damien that she knew could care less about anyone other than his pack members. He would slit the throat of his enemies without thinking twice and this was the perfect opportunity for him to attack his enemies and end the long time feud but strangely, he seemed quite hesitant.

"Sheila, it is true Alpha Fredrick is dead but there is a new Alpha already and it's actually his daughter." He said.

"What!" Sheila exclaimed, immediately sitting up properly to stare at Damien face to face.

"She is the new Alpha?" She asked again in disbelief with her mouth parted open slightly.

She clapped her hands in sudden excitement, "This is even better then! It's the perfect opportunity to end that witch once and for all and get your revenge." She chirped excitedly and Damien almost could not believe her.

He mentally rolled his eyes at how dramatic and slightly unreasonable she was being. He wasn't even sure she actually listened to any of the words he just said barely a few seconds ago. If she had, she would have understood that the mate he's actually talking about is the witch she's suddenly talking about getting revenge on.

Sheila noticed Damien's reaction and frowned at him. "What exactly is wrong with you Damien? You're acting so fucking strange." She chided.

"I don't think you're getting anything I'm saying Sheila." He muttered tiredly.

"You know I've always told you she is one hothead that just doesn't think straight when it's necessary." Damon hissed in irritation.

"Shut up!" Damien snapped back furiously.

"Did you just tell me to fucking shut up?" Sheila asked in complete disbelief.

"No, no, no, I didn't babe. I really wasn't referring to you." He debunked quickly.

Sheila sighed, "You know what D, explain yourself to me. Make me understand what exactly you're talking about and why exactly you seem so nonchalant about a conversation that actually involves our rival pack." She demanded.

Damien rubbed his eyes with his index and thumb finger, trying to relieve himself of the crazy stress that he has had the misfortune of putting himself through.

"There's nothing to explain Sheila. The only thing there is to say is that my mate is the new Alpha of the Redmoon pack." He explained briefly.

"Wait... You mean the new Alpha, a she Alpha? Are we talking about Frederick's daughter, that Kira girl that you hate?" She asked with a questioning brow and he nodded his head in confirmation.

"You have got to be kidding me! What in the actual fuck was the moon freaking goddess thinking?" She spat exasperatedly.

"That's the exact same thought I heard it baby. I can't even comprehend the absurdity because I mean, shouldn't she know better than anyone of us that our packs are long time rivals and that making her my fate would only cause a huge and unwanted ruckus. It's almost like she's trying to punish us with anger and confusion cause I see no other reason for this stupidity." Damien spat out furiously, wondering what mind games the supposed moon goddess had in mind while she was doing the pairing. He mentally thanked himself for not being superstitious enough to actually believe it's a must you and your supposed mate be together.

"I just can't and I won't believe such a ridiculous pairing. You also won't accept it right?" She asked him, her eyes boring him.

"Do you even need to ask babe?" He replied confidently and although Sheila believed him, she still couldn't shake off the fear that suddenly overwhelmed her.

This cannot possibly be happening to her just when she and Damien are planning to proceed with the wedding preparations. She has waited a long time to finally be his and now this? No, absolutely not happening. She can't and she won't ever allow an intruder between them, not today, not ever.

"Auntie, I can't do it!" Kira argued, getting sick and tired of her aunt trying to convince her otherwise.

"I'm sorry to say Kira dear but you really have to. It's our best bet right now." Layla replied, still trying to convince her niece.

"Best bet you say? How can going out there without any actual direction all in the name of finding a spiritual mother be the best bet? My father just passed auntie and the pack needs me more than ever. What if we get attacked by those bastards while I'm out there searching for goodness knows who?" She argued.

Layla sighed, "Kira, do you trust me?" She asked.

"Auntie, this has absolutely nothing to do with trust. It's about the messed up situation I'm in and how I can't afford to take any chances." She defended.

"You said it yourself Kira, it's a messed up situation and we need to know what all this is about and the truth is, we'll never know unless we try. Do you think our only enemies are the silvermoon pack? If that's what you think my dear, then you are definitely naive."

"There are other creatures, creatures that we simply call the nightcrawlers because we do know even know the names of these creatures but what I know for sure is, werewolves were cursed by the moon while those creatures were cursed by the sun." Layla explained, finding letting out every thought that has been lingering in her mind.

Kira laughed hysterically. "What are you saying auntie? The moon cursed us? Don't you already know that we get stronger every full moon?" She asked, raising her brows in a questioning manner.

Layla's face palmed herself. "You are wrong. You know nothing at all. You only know half of it and yes, we get stronger when it's a full moon but do you even know how our kind came to be and do you have any idea what other creatures lurk out there waiting for the perfect opportunities to strike?" Her aunt asked.

"Okay then, let's say I get all you're saying about the creatures, the curse and all of the incomplete sentences you've made, what is it you want me to do exactly?" She asked her aunt, clearly tired of arguing.

"It's simple my dear, all I want from you is to get ready, set out and look for a spiritual mother who can give all an answer or at least a clue to everything that's happening." Layla said to her niece straightforwardly and Kira sighed tiredly.
