My heart was still pounding as I sat on the deck, watching as the sun slowly set in the backyard. I had my jacket on to suppress my wings, the paper with the address for Saidiki in my pocket, but now… now I was reluctant to go. I felt like I would drown in the heavy feeling in my chest and I closed my eyes as I tried to make sense of what Lee had discovered.
Evan… he was alive. He was alive and with this Manumitter group, helping them to try and kidnap Sarai and me for whatever thing they were trying to do. Did he still have his memories of me? Why had they chosen to resurrect him? How had they resurrected him? Creating a zombie was one thing, but zombie bodies still decayed. No matter how much magic or how much care you put into preservation, they still eventually crumbled into dust. The pictures of Evan and Saidiki went back for more than a year, and his body showed no sign of decay. He was somehow completely brought back to life, as if he had never died.
