"What do you mean?" Paul Pickwatt's anger was suddenly quelled by a substantial amount.
Others might not know, but he had known Rex since young and had quite a good relationship with the servant. In fact, Rex had been looking after him since he was born, and had always let him have his way.
So Paul Pickwatt knew for a fact that Rex was definitely not a person who would interfere with his actions unless there was a very good reason to do so.
Furthermore, Rex was a powerful mage as well, which meant that he would be much more sensitive to magical energy.
If Rex saw it necessary to stop him there, then perhaps this short sword might really be much more than it seemed!
"Is it okay to hand me the sword so I can take a closer look?" Rex humbly posed the question.
"Of course, dear customer!" Kyle smirked as Rex carefully received the sword with both hands.
"How is it?" Paul Pickwatt asked in curiosity, and even Lynnette Holde could not help but wait with anticipation.
"This…the enchantment on the sword seemed to be done haphazardly, yet it still seemed to hold a level of power so deep that even I am unable to fully fathom its depths! I'm afraid that my understanding towards enchanted equipment is still too inadequate to give this treasure a fair assessment!" Rex finally exclaimed in shock. "Though that is the case, the physical quality of the short sword is a little low. What a waste of the Enchanter's talents!"
"Is it really that great?" Lynnette Holde quickly took the blade in her hands before casually swinging it around a little. "Doesn't feel all that great to me…"
"May I know how much the short sword costs?" without him even realising it, Paul Pickwatt's tone had completely changed after hearing Rex's assessment.
"Hahaha! As I said, this is a precious sword so the price might be a little steep! I'm not sure if you would be able to afford it!" Kyle laughed, inducing frowns on the customer's face.
"Too steep a price for me, Paul Pickwatt? What nonsense!" out of irritation, Paul Pickwatt raised his voice once more. "Name your price!"
"100 copper coins!" Kyle's face turned serious and raised his index finger in front of him. "100 copper coins and you can have it!"
While everyone in the store was stunned, Rachel could only slap her forehead in disbelief.
This copper-fetish!
"100…copper coins?" Paul Pickwatt could feel the edge of his mouth twitching uncontrollably.
"That's right, it costs 100 copper coins! Aren't you supposed to be really rich, even looking down on the prices of our other goods? What, is it too expensive for you now?" Kyle had a sinister grin spreading across his face.
"Enough! I shall endure this once as apology for my earlier words. But are you selling it or not? If yes then name the real price!" Paul Pickwatt gritted his teeth in frustration.
He was definitely unwilling to tolerate such snide remarks from a mere employee, but it was not every day that Rex had such a good appraisal for a sword, so he definitely must try to obtain it!
"Not bad, you guessed it right. The real price is actually even more than that! But we are making an exception for you since we can sense a magical affiliation between you and the short sword itself, as though it has selected you as its owner! That is the reason why we are giving you a discount! But even so, 100 copper coins, no less than that!"
"The short sword is for my fiancée though, not for me."
"Oh, right! Rather than you, the affiliation between your fiancée and the short sword is even stronger! They are practically fated to be together! That's why the discount is so great!"
Why did it sound so much like a poorly done scam?
Paul Pickwatt decided to ignore Kyle's senseless rambling and turned back to Rex, "Are you sure you are not mistaken about the sword?"
"This…" Rex hesitated as his eyes turned back to the sword.
Could he really be wrong?
No, it was true that the enchantment seemed to be done in a hurry, but the magical energy within was the real deal!
So how could it be sold at a mere 100 copper coins?
Were the employees of the store unable to see the value of the sword?
No, they obviously knew, or they would not have said that it was the most precious sword in the store, bringing it out even after we rejected everything else!
Then what was the catch? Was it truly a discount brought about by a sense of magical affiliation?
Rex was unable to figure out the answer, but that did not matter. He shall just trust in his own judgement. After all, it was just 100 copper coins!
With that, Rex turned to his young master and nodded resolutely.
"100 copper coins, you say?" Paul Pickwatt turned back to Kyle upon seeing the nod from Rex. "Deal! I will take it then!"
"Paul!" Lynnette Holde immediately objected. "Are you really intending to get me such a cheap item? I will be mocked by others if word gets out!"
"How about this? We will continue shopping even after getting this, but it won't hurt to just buy it!" Paul Pickwatt did not intend to change his mind, so he could only try to convince his fiancée to accept it.
"You promised! We definitely have to get something else after this!"
"Okay, okay!" Paul Pickwatt signalled to Rex, who stepped forward with a string of coins.
"I will remember this incident, and if the sword is truly as good as you say, I will definitely return to repay the balance!"
Kyle's eyes opened wide in surprise as he received the string of 100 copper coins from the servant.
Never in his wildest imagination did he think that the group would be able to come up with 100 copper coins just like that!
The Pickwatt Corporation, eh?
Heh, it seemed that he would have to remember that name from now on!
"Here! No need to thank me!" Kyle casually handed the string of copper coins over to Rachel after the customers left the store.
Rachel did not know whether to laugh or to cry!
Not knowing how to explain the situation, she chose to avoid the confused stares from Jack and Jill as she led Kyle back to the family's residence.
When they returned to the residence, Rachel was shocked to see her mother and younger brother seated at the front hall. Old Will was standing beside her mother, carefully serving her tea.
"Mother? Randall? Are you waiting for me? Did something happen?"
Rachel knew that it was not their habit to rest in the front hall. If they wanted to, they would usually rest in the open courtyard instead. Seeing them suddenly gathered here and waiting for her, something serious must have occurred while she was away!
Her mother hesitated for a moment, seeming to be struggling inside before she finally hardened her resolve to speak, "Tell me, Rachel. Who is this man beside you? Why did you not mention a word about him earlier?"
"Heh, me?" Kyle stepped out confidently even before Rachel could speak.
"From now on, I am the one who will change your lives for the better!"
