What Just Happened

I rushed to the cafeteria in desperate need of food. That is the only thing that keeps me going over here. I mean, it is not that bad. I don't know why other people exaggerate. Be grateful there is free food. I am worried about Lexi. She was shaking when I tried to wake her up. Not only that, she was sweating all over. Her palms looked like they just have been washed. I should probably ask her about it. Maybe it was just a nightmare about what happened yesterday. What happened to Keon was horrible. The good thing is that he didn't feel any pain. It was an instant kill but yet terrifying.

I was waiting in line patiently waiting for Lexi to come. She is lucky I'm saving up a spot in line. The lines are normally long over here since people are getting more than once. I don't blame them. The food here is good. I honestly thought it was going to be disgusting since we are technically in hell. Something must be wrong here. I am just patiently waiting since I don't really know anybody here. The only person I know is Lexi. I know the people in the same classroom as me, but they only use me to escape.

It has been quite a while, and there is still no sign of Lexi. I even got my food already. I'm just going to keep saving a spot for her until she comes. The more time passes by, the more worried I am. At least this dry pancakes are keeping me alive. I was wrong about the food being good. I just wanted to make this place feel better. At least they gave me syrup. I was about to take a bite until a guy approached me. "You should probably go check on your friend Lexi," he smirked.

I tried to see who he was, but he had a hoodie on. Although it wasn't dark, I couldn't see any of his facial features. It was just all black with no light in it. "Who are you," I asked him. He then looked up at me, the darkness slowly fading away. It was like he had control over the shadows, which he did. I froze once I saw who it was. It can't be. I thought he was dead. "It's amazing, isn't it?" He disappeared in thin air.

He was in my head. Keon is in my head. I got up and threw my food away. I started running towards Lexi's room. Having Keon magically appear and Lexi still not being here is enough. I know something bad is going on. I know it isn't all in my head. Keon probably is, but Lexi isn't. If I'm wrong about this, it means that Keon is haunting me. Why would he be doing that in the first place? I finally reached Lexi's room, opening the door immediately. She wasn't there. I checked her bathroom she wasn't there either. Where could she be?

(Lexi's POV)

"It seems like you just had chest pain from trauma. There is good news and bad news, but I'm not allowed to say anything yet. I have to write it in a letter. I know chest pain isn't a big deal, but it is for privacy reasons. There have been cases of mics being in here by fellow students in hell. They have nothing else to do but trigger people's trauma. Chest pains are pretty common in here, so don't worry. You might not be a victim of it," the nurse said. I came in here because I was worried. The good thing is that it is normal.

The nurse told me that I could leave now, so I did. As soon as I walked out the door, I saw Alijah in the hallway. "Where have you been," she said out of breath. It looks like she just had run a marathon. Sweat was dripping from her face, which was probably caused by the heat in this place. They were torches and flames everywhere you looked. No wonder fire alarms are so common. "I was just at the nurse's office," I responded. She then looked relieved and went to the floor due to the heat in this place.

"I thought something happened to you. Good thing nothing happened because I don't want to be alone in this place. You are the only person I'm friends with," she said. I agree with her nobody would want to be out here all alone. Everybody here would do anything to save their friends. They fear being alone with no support. Yesterday I saw a kid punching a guard's face just so his friend could run away from punishment. Those two ended up running away but eventually got caught. They didn't even run for a minute. The guard's teasers are too powerful. Well, not that much.

People only care about friendships and escaping here. Some people betray their friends and other people fear escaping. They fear the punishments that they will get if they get caught. Others don't care at all. They just run away without thinking twice. The worst part is that they get caught. I have heard rumors about there being a forest when they escape. That they escape from a door not underground. No staircases at all. Others say that there isn't such a thing. That we are in hell and it is not just a trap to make kids behave.

I personally don't know what to believe. There is no such thing as hell being underground. I don't believe in that stuff but now it is different. Seeing Caleb shapeshifting into different things that it is impossible to know-how. Him magically appearing in my room without a warning. Not to mention my parents are stuck in a painting. It is just weird. I can't explain why those things happened. There is no such thing as people giving someone shapeshifting abilities or powers that make you disappear. It is unmanageable and hard to do.

I looked at the time, seeing that breakfast time was over. I groaned, seeing that I will have to starve today. At least I don't have to be eating the dry food they give. It disgusts me, but I have to eat it. I don't want to end up dying of starvation in this place. If someone dies here, they don't bury them so they could rest in peace. They just throw them in a pit along with other dead bodies. The worst part is that they don't even get remembered or even have a funeral. It must be tough for the family to see that their child died and can't do anything about it.

"You missed breakfast," Alijah said. I just remembered that if we miss something in our schedule, we get punished. Since I missed breakfast, I need to be punished, but I have an excuse. Good thing I had to go to the nurse. If I didn't go, who knows what they would have done to me. They probably wouldn't do anything bad since breakfast isn't that important. If I missed a task, I would have been dead by now. That is one of the things the guards care about.

"Oh yeah, but it's okay because they probably gave us something bad," I admitted. "Your right they gave us dry pancakes," responded Alijah. We then started wandering around the halls since we have a free day. We didn't have anything to do since it is boring down here. After a while, we decided to sit down on some benches and talk about our hobbies and stuff. We were just talking until someone sat down next to us. I looked over and saw that it was a tall guy that looked shy. He had long straight hair and big brown eyes.

"Hi, my name is Oswald," the brown-eyed guy said. Alijah and I said hi back, wanting to meet the new guy we encountered. "I'm kind of new here, so can you guys show me around a little. I was looking for someone, but I can't seem to find him. You guys are the first people I saw," Oswald explained. "Sure," I replied while standing up to show him around. Alijah stood up as well to show the new guy around. I'm glad that we are meeting a new person since we don't know that many people here. It feels nice.

We were showing the guy around the building and having a conversation with him. We wanted him to feel comfortable since it is his first day. He is lucky he got a free day once he arrived. We couldn't really tell him a lot of information about what happens here since we have only been here for a week. We still have a lot to learn from. I barely found out today that people will try anything to make you scared in some sort of way. They can even go as far as kidnapping you but of course, letting you go after. They will laugh at you because of it.
