Chapter 06 Final Selection and hunting spree

It's been a week since I started walking towards the site of Final Selection. I reached Mount Fujikasane at morning, since the test is held evening I search for a spot to sleep on. Finding a tree with a good shade, I lay down in the grass and went to sleep. It was already afternoon when I woke up. I then proceed towards the gathering site. There I saw a few people already gathered. I haven't seen any familiar face so I went and search for a spot to sit on. I found a good spot not far from the stairs and sat on. Looking around I saw two familiar face walking from the stairs.

The pair have pale skin and large eyes. They also had the same hair which was shaped into a blunt white bob haircut but their hair color is contrast to each other. One has white hair and wearing purple, flower-patterned Hōmongi kimono with a dark indigo juban under it. While the black one was wearing purple uchikake kimono with patterned flowers and a green obi, supported with a white obiage and indigo obijime along with a white juban under everything.

(AN: The MC didn't know that the black and white hair pair are not twin.)

They seemed to noticed my stare and stared back at me as they climb the stairs. Pretending to loss interest, I closed my eyes. They continued to walk until they stop at a Torii. They then started calling all the participants. I looked around and found nothing familiar.

The twin then started explaining the rules of the Final Selection which is to survive seven nights in the top of the mountain where is demons are imprisoned. After that everyone headed on the top of the mountain. I walk out from the Wisteria barrier and started walking towards the forest. Since it's night, being vigilant is most important.

As I continued walking, I heard noise coming from a bush. I stopped walking and take a quick draw stance while my hand is holding my katana. As the thing revealed itself, I didn't let my guard down. A raccoon came out of the bush and started running away from me as it saw me. As I was about to relax, I felt a chill in my back. Without hesitation I turned around and attacked.

"Ripple Breathing Style - Third Form: Dragon Coil Flash." (Shin)

A silhouette of a golden dragon came and spin as I spin in full circle.

My attack hit the demon doing sneak attack on my back. He was sliced in two from the waist. The demon wails as Ripple energy flooded his body destroying it in the process. A few seconds later the demon was no more as his body became ashes. Sheathing my katana, I proceed to my walk. Having mastered Ripple gave me a lot of stamina, not to mention my body which is enhanced by system.

Four days had passed and the test is still going. I met a few people, most of them were on the verge of death as they were to overconfident about themselves and underestimating the demons that were imprisoned in the Mount Fujikasane. I already hunted a total of nine demons in the forest. As I continue my hunt, I heard clashing of steel not far from where I was. I went and check the situation and found out that a person was surrounded by 3 demons. As the person got knocked out, the three demons started fighting to each other.

"This is my prey. You two hunt Your Own food." (Demon A)

"Hey, I was the one who discovered this piece of meat." (Demon B)

"You two trespassed on my territory. And that meat is mine since it was in my territory." (Demon C)

The demons fought brutally from each other as they are arguing who eats the knocked out person. Hearing their argument, I realized that demons whom are imprisoned in the mountain had created a society which is quite surprising. As the three continued their argument, I took a deep breath and prepared my attack.

"Ripple Breathing Style - Third Form: Dragon Coil Flash." (Shin)

The demons seems to notice me but it was too late as I have already arrived on the center of the three demons and swung my sword which was filled with Ripple energy in a circular mode cutting them all down. As expected, demons died after eating my Ripple energy filled slash. After killing the demons, I carried the guy (knocked out) like a bag of potato and resumed my hunt. I carried the guy a few hours before he woke up. I then put him down and explained what happened to him. He thanked me and separated from me as he wants to hunt and kill demons alone to pass and become a Demon Slayer. I respected his decision since It was his own decision, as all the one whom took this test is prepared to die.

Two days had passed since then and this two days yield no demons as I started my frenzy hunting. During those days I kept traveling the forest and had reach the end, which was filled with barriers of Wisteria tree blooming. Since there's still a day before the test ends I went another frenzy hunting. As I travel back deep the forest, I felt something ominous coming closer. I hid behind a tree and waited for what it was and I saw the weird demon monstrously large, veiny, hulking monster with olive green skin, blood red fingernails, and beady yellow eyes with cross-hatch shaped pupils. What's more bizarre this demon was composed of several hands.

'If I remember correctly this should be the demon that killed Sabito.' (Shin)

As I watch the Hand Demon, I suddenly felt a chill in my back. Trusting my instinct I jump and rolled to the side.

BANG

CRACK

THUD

The tree that I was hiding was snapped into two by a hand coming from the Hand Demon.

"Shishishi. You thought a rat like you can hide against me?" (Hand Demon)

I immediately stand up and took a quick draw stance as I looked at the demon warily. The Hand Demon then attacks both sides with long hands trying to catch me. Taking a deep breath I attacked the incoming arms.

"Ripple Breathing Style - First Form: Twin Dragon Flash." (Shin)

Ripple energy rushed as I slashed the left arm with the nichirin katana while I hit the right arm with the sheath.

THUD

DRIP

SHHHHHH

"ARG!!!!!! It hurts. What did you do?!!" (Hand Demon)

The demon looked at his melting hands that was hit by my attack. Seeing that my attacks can hurt him and stop his regeneration, he teared the two arms. After that his arms regenerated a new ones.

'As expected to the demon that killed many disciples of the previous Water Pillar.' (Shin)

The demon became cautious in his attacks as he throws rocks and trees to me. Thanks to Mind Stones enhancement that my reflex is five times than normal human I easily dodged his attacks. While I dodged his throwing, a few hands attacking me from my back. I took a deep breath and release a counter attack.

"Ripple Breathing Style - Third Form: Dragon Coil Flash." (Shin)

Making a circular slash, all the hands that was coming from the back was cut.

The demon let another scream as all four arms was cut and now melting due to Ripple energy. He then cut all four arms and regrow them. The demon seems weakening as he regenerates.

'It seems that the more he regenerate the greater the energy needed. My chance is now. ' (Shin)

I took a deep breath and dashed using Godspeed.

"Ripple Breathing Style - Fifth Form: Nine Head Dragon Flash. " (Shin)

A silhouette of a golden nine head dragon appeared as I attacked the Hand Demon nine times from above head, right shoulder, right arms center, right arms wrist, straight front, left arm wrist, left arms center, left shoulder and center of the chest via thrust.

Thanks to my Godspeed that the Hand Demon didn't have a chance to react let alone block my attacks. The Hand Demon then screamed as his body melts. As his body started to turn ash, he gave me a hateful look before completely turning into ashes. I walk back to the Wisteria barrier in order to finish the test. As I walk towards the top of the mountain I saw the twins waiting and behind them was a table with a few stones in the top. I looked around and found out I was the only person there except the twins.

""We congratulate you for passing the test. You would be given the standard uniform of Demon Slayer Corp together with a Kasugai Crow that will lead and inform you about your mission. And lastly we would provide you with a katana that is made by the one of your choosing. Please choose one of this ores."" (Twin)

A regular looking crow flew towards me and perched in my shoulder.

'So this is the Kasugai Crow. This crow can talk like in the Anime. ' (Shin)

I asked the twin if it was possible for me to take the one and forge a katana on it. The twin was shocked about my statement but agreed as the one who passed the test I have the right to do what I thought was good for me. I asked if I can take two ores because I was the only one who passed the test. The twin became quite for a while and agreed to my request. I happily went to the table and picked two ores randomly before biding farewell towards the twins.
