"Jaz?" His voice was soft.
"Yeah?"
"Um, there's something you need to know...."
"What is it?"
I was really curious now, what if he likes me back. Wow, that would be amazing! Samir, my best friend since birth, liking me back. I guess I wandered off a bit, because the last thing I heard was the word girlfriend. Was he asking me to be his girlfriend?! AHHH!!
I tried to be nonchalant, "Sorry, what did you say?"
"I said, I have a girlfriend. She's actually sleeping in my room right now."
"Oh, um, well...that’s cool!” Wow, real smooth Jaz.
"Yeah. You know you'll always be my best friend, right?"
"Right. I’m going to step outside for a bit..."
I got up and felt his presence stay by my side as we left the house.
How could I have been so stupid! It has been 5 months since I've last seen him. Of course he has a girlfriend. She's probably beautiful. Oh don't forget smarter, and funnier than me. She was probably perfect.
"Jaz?" He snapped me out of my personal conversation.
"Huh?" Again, smooth.
"Um, you look tired, ya wanna go to sleep?"
"Oh, thanks, I know I look ugly."
"No, you look....beautiful." He said that with a slight bit of softness. He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. He was so handsome in the moonlight. Okay I really need to stop, he has a girlfriend and he DOES NOT LIKE ME!!
"Thanks..."
I looked at those eyes. I couldn't help but catch a glimpse of those perfectly shaped lips. I looked back to those deep brown eyes. I subconsciously bit my lower lip. His eyes were searching into mine, like they were trying to find something. He leaned closer, clearly trying to kiss me. I couldn't help myself, I slowly took a step forward, causing our chests to meet. His hands found there way to my waist. We were closer than close. One movement would cause our lips to crash together. I wished it would happen, but someone else had other plans.
Our moment was destroyed by a loud cough coming from the back. The porch light came on and there stood a large silhouette. Samir and I took a step away from each other. My whole body let out a shiver, from the sudden loss of contact. I don't know about him but I felt a bit dazed. This handsome stranger stepped into the cold silent night.
Samir was the first to break the silence. "Hey, Jake." He rubbed the back of his neck.
"Hey." Jake said, sounding sleepy. There was a high chance that he didn't see what happened.
"Um, hey, I'm Jasmine."
"Oh. So you're Jasmine. Samir has said so much about you."
"Well, we are best friends. I've practically known him since birth."
"Yeah, guys, don't you think you can continue this in the morning? I'm getting sleepy." Samir said with a yawn.
"Where should I sleep?" I honestly wanted my old room back. You see, Samir and I used to share this house. After my parents passed away, Samir was kind of my guardian in a way. He made sure I was safe. My legal guardian was Samir's dad, but he was in India so there's not much he can do in such long distance.
"Um, well, Jake is sleeping in your old room, and well Diana and I are sleeping in my room. If you don't mind you could crash on the couch..."
Oh great....the "comfy" leather couch......he has never let me sleep on that thing, not once.
"Okay....fine."
"Great! Thanks Jaz."
I seriously think I have a problem. I walked to the living room, just as Samir was coming in with a blanket and a pillow. He put them on the couch and turned to leave.
"Good Night Samir" I whispered.
"Night Jaz." He entered his room and closed the door softly.
