Volatile

(A/N: Sorry for not posting yesterday, but I start the second semester on my second year at uni and its quite hard. I can promise that I will post two chapters tomorrow, but at least will be posted and most likely I will post Saturday one or two chapters)

<Eric Jarl POV>

"I've got to say that I'm impressed with how good this place looks. Knowing that this place had a lot of inmates before the zombie apocalypse starts, I don't know how hard it was for you guys to clear the whole place."

"It was hard. Fortunately, we didn't lose anyone clearing this place. Well, there were some inmates that survived and we had to deal with them. As we didn't want more blood on our hands, we tried to strike a deal with them and cooperate. At first, everything was ok, but one night, one of the prisoners decided to escape from this place, thinking that only the prison was hit. He managed to steal a lot of food from our storage before he left through a breach in the building wall. Unfortunately for him, he ran right into a horde. The horde followed the path from where he escaped. The other prisoners were caught off guard by the zombies and killed, while the whole block was overrun by zombies. This led us to make a risky move. I, T-dog, Andrea, and Merle decided to bait the zombies towards the exit that led into the interior yard which is surrounded by metal fences, while Daryl, Glenn, Hershel, Beth, Shawn, Maggie, Amy, and Carol used metal sheets to seal the entrance towards our block by welding them in front of the door."

"That's one hell of a story, at least you guys managed to settle down here and rest, which is quite good. Having huge fences and thick walls around is the best thing you can ask for in this world right now. By the way, where's Beth? I got distracted and forgot to ask you that."

"She's with Maggie and Amy on a scavenging trip in the closest village. They should arrive in an hour or so."

"Well then, do you guys need some help clearing that block from a zombie?"

"It is true that we need help clearing that place, but I don't know how to clear it'd you have any idea Hershel?"

"We sealed the entrance and I won't risk open it when there is an unknown number of zombies on the other side. Other than that entrance, the only way to enter is through the breach, but that means we have to clear all the zombies outside the base first and then slowly clear the block, but there's a problem, there may not be any light as the prisoners modified the cables that connect our blocks so that their generator can last longer."

"I see. I'll have my men ready. We are going inside the breach while you guys cover us and before you guys argue about my decision, you need to know that we trained on how to fight inside closed spaces when we lived in the metro."

"*Sigh* OK, Eric, you won. Do you guys need something before you start?"

"Yes, Rick. Do you guys have some tables that you don't use? We can true those into shields and move in a formation that will protect us."

"Hershel? Don't we have something in our armory to help them?"

"You are right Rick. Eric, you won't need to make shields. We found eight riot shields inside the armory, alongside the gear of the riot unit or a part of that said unit."

"That's more than enough for our needs. I'll gather my men. Can you guys bring them to the entrance?"

"Sure. I'll see you there then."

Ten minutes later, I and my team were ready to exit the gate and clear the infested block. Rick gave us eight riot shields to use and I know the perfect way to implement them in our operation.

When we exit the prison safety, Rick and his group start making noise so that the zombies will be attracted by the noise and create a somewhat safer path towards the breach.

While the number of zombies that were left wasn't that much, we still had to kill them before we could continue. Fortunately for us, one of my men brought a makeshift spear with him which saved us a lot of unnecessary troubles by creating a shield wall while he stabbed the zombies over the shield wall. And if by some absurd way, the zombie managed to hit the wall, the rest of us that aren't using a shield will use our axes or knives to kill them.

By the time we arrived at the breach, Rick's group killed a small horde while we only had to deal with one or two zombies, that wasn't attracted by their noises.

Looking through the hole, I saw some zombies roaming around without any clear objective.

I signaled my men and three seconds later we entered through the hole. The shield bearers were the first ones to enter and made a shield wall around the entrance. The rest of us followed immediately after them. When we were all inside and ready, we moved in a shield wall formation clearing all zombies in our path.

By the time we reached the sealed entrance, all of us were tired both mentally and physically by the stress of getting ambushed by some lurker that somehow managed to get hidden.

Unfortunately for us, as I was about to knock on the metal sheet to let however was on the other side that we cleared the whole block, I heard something that I didn't fight for a long time.

"TESTUDO FORMATION NEAR THE WALL "

My men quickly formed the testudo with our backs against the wall and just as we got into the formation, something heavy hit the shields that we over our heads.

Looking through the riot shields, I saw one of the worst things we could encounter here, a volatile.

Seeing that he can't get us, the volatile decided to improvise and use something that no other zombie tried before.

The ugly volatile was getting angry at our formation and decided to use dead bodies as missiles.

"Fuck! Maxson, keep the formation intact for now. I'll get its attention and when you see an opening fill the bastard will bullets."

"Roger that sir!"

When another body hit our formation, I burst through an opening made by my men and grabbed the volatile attention.

Looking at the challenge in front of me, I could swear that my blood starts boiling with excitement from the incoming fight.

Creation is hard, cheer me up!
